Highland, Great post, and welcome to the forum BTW! Had to both laugh, and be proud, of all the awsome responses you received to your post! Just goes to show you that you are among great people here, who love to share their knowledge with others! There are only a few "good" forums around, that you will find this kind of great information, without all the infighting BS, and pettiness!! Only "bone" i have to pick with what you said, was one detector for 8-10 years!!๐คฃ I think we all started out that way, and you may be able to pull it off, but if you stick with this hobby, I seriously doubt you will have bought just "one" detector in that time span! Like trying to eat just "one" potato chip!๐ I'd have to say, by your rapid decision, you already had a good idea of the detector you felt was "just right" for you, and got quick, and thorough enough confirmation to pull the trigger in rapid fashion!! Congratulations, and good luck๐ with the Deus 2 , and the hobby! Hope you find a bunch! It's great fun!!๐๐ โBTW, if you haven't heard it already, check your local "Detecting Laws", and try to be low profile, and fill all your holes neatly! Look up "Detecting Edicate" if you are unfamiliar!!๐

9 X 5 DD Elliptical Coil For The Legend?
Joe D. replied to HardPack's topic in Nokta / Makro Legend Forum
Pricing on the basic Legend is great right now! But yeah, the tipping point for me would be coil selection!! I have a box full of different machine coils that have never been used, or go unused, after the preferred size is made available by whomever steps up to the plate!! (Maybe I should sell some!๐ค๐คฃ)! Delik, keep at it!! Many of us are waiting to jump in, or being as patient as possible, for some different coil sizes!!๐๐ -

What's Important In Wired Headphones?
Joe D. replied to mcjtom's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
Agreed, (out likes๐ต) I have some nice wired and wireless headphones! On ear, over-the-ear, and in-ear! But seem to always gravitate back to the wired "buds"! Heat is a huge factor for me, in coastal Central Florida! (Formerly South Florida ๐ฅต) Also being aware of my surroundings is important! Eyes are near always sidetracked when detecting! Ears do a better job of multitasking (for me), and early warning!! Now, a little sound quality, and possibly some whisper targets may be missed; i admit, but comfort and security are more important for me, in my areas! Unless the surf is really pounding; like a "winter storm๐" here, its negledgeable! Cooler weather opens up my listening options, and I'm well stocked to take advantage! Here's my favorite buds so far, as they have a bungee wire and have been surprisingly tough! First pair are still going, after about 3 years, and I just bought a backup set, JIC! They've been dropped in the sand, water, and pavement, squished, and washed off numerous times! I know there are other waterproof/sweatproof ones out there, but this "back-of the-head" configuration has worked well for me, as they stay put, and don't pull out easily! And I can wear my big sun hats, unlike normal headphones! Plus, when people stop me, and want to chat for a bit (beaches more than anywhere else๐), I don't have to remove them! Also, short bungee wire "extensions" are cheap, and help stop the "pull offs" on your favorite wired headphones, that inevitably happens! I also use the WM 08 with the Nox, in my pocket! So sorta wireless, and less issues! Good luck out there!!๐๐๐ -
Welcome Double G, Glad you finally stepped in for a chat! Used up all my "likes" today already, but I can give as many of these ๐๐ out as I want! Good luck, and be seeing ya!๐๐๐

A Fortunate Find After An Unfortunate Start
Joe D. replied to F350Platinum's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
Sad part of that here, is there wasn't alot going on in most of Florida, in general then! And most everything that was happening, was either on the coast, or next to a railroad or river! And has been bulldozed, developed, and/or covered in concrete and asphalt multiple times!!๐ต Progress, my foot!!๐ฆถ๐๐ -
A Fortunate Find After An Unfortunate Start
Joe D. replied to F350Platinum's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
A Trime? What's a Trime? We don't have those in Florida!!๐คฃ Bet i have a better chance of finding a 1715 Fleet coin, than a "Trime?" here!!! All kidding aside, I was very happy to hear you "pillaged๐ดโโ ๏ธ" another! Hope there are many more for you, or someone๐ to find!! Among all the other great stuff your hunts produce! And don't let Chase get all the goodies! I've got a much longer drive, but leave something for me! I'll visit eventually... And your welcome to all "my" beach "permissions" anytime! And you can bring friends along; even Chase!๐๐๐๐ BTW, your posts, and responses/responders, are killing all my "likes"! Steve, throw a guy a few more; (dozen)!!๐คฃ -
Fish, nice coin๐, I think you are on the right track with your Nox! Yeah, those deep iffy signals are a "dig" for me! Also, I'm sure you have noticed the Nox's tendency of the signal to totally disappear, when digging the target! It can be annoying, but I've become used to this aspect, and keep digging, and checking the sides and bottom of the hole with the coil, or a pinpointer, to see if I passed the target, or it's out already! If all else fails, fill in the hole, and start over! That will sometimes change the signal quality of the object!! Like Dogo; and others have said, single frequency has it's advantages, and the Nox is no slouch with it's own versions! But many of us have our own preferences, and experiences with different kinds and types of detectors, and conditions to reference! So it's very tough to give you any specific information! It's all highly subjective, and it's your money to spend! So do all the research you can, and be confident in your choice, if you buy another detector! They will all find stuff! Good luck, and keep finding them oldies!!๐๐

Devil's Tongue Park Probe Hunt At A Campground
Joe D. replied to F350Platinum's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
Nice haul Bob! I still say, that place has not given you your best find yet! Just a matter of time, and maybe another detector, and/or frequency shift! And getting the coil over the "right" spot!!๐๐ And personally, I like titanium rings; may not be as valuable, but definitely more fashionable! And you've got a good collection going!๐ Also just a reminder for others, Ken can custom make longer lengths of the park probe! I have an original, and a "footlong" as I call it! He can also make the tip to either a straight blade, or the curved! I prefer the curved footlong myself!! Works better in my types of soil! IMO!!๐๐ -

Revised Tesoro 8x9 Concentric Coil Model
Joe D. replied to kac's topic in Compass, D-Tex, Tesoro, Etc.
And of course, the same as Dog said! It fits my other 8ร9 (white coil) perfectly! The one I sent you (black coil) obviously had a slightly bigger diameter, by a hair, but enough to matter!! And thanks for my CC too!!๐๐ -
If your a sifter; and not all of us are BTW (i scoop and kick, on land anyway!), Then having a scoop insert, weather DIY, or bought, is a nice way to alter an existing scoop with little expense! Who wants to buy multiple scoops to cover different situations (travel not withstanding)! Many of us already do that with our detectors and coils; that's enough expense!!๐ As a recent example, Kac has been experimenting with different configurations, made on his printer! (seen elsewhere on the forum)! Or you can create one, or a few, that meet your requirements!๐๐๐

Campground Consolidation
Joe D. replied to F350Platinum's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
That's another awsome haul for you Bob!๐ Modern coins may not be ideal for everyone, but it keeps the skills, and muscle memory sharp, and are often mixed with the "good" stuff, as you've proven! Besides, even clad helps defray the hobby costs, even if it's only a few dollars at a time; it all adds up! Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on one's "base of operations", not all of us are located in area's ther contain old items and/or minerals, that haven't moved much in decades, centuries, or millennia, and are detectable! So clad becomes somewhat of staple, until the next favorable find!! Good luck at your next stop!! And watch out for JELLIES!๐ฎ๐๐๐ -
Good question V3i, I have wondered the same thing! Hard to compare apples to apples, but I'm guessing the Arrow wins hands down! All I know is I wouldn't have paid the premium price, at the time, for the Bigfoot, if i had known that the Arrow would have become a reality as "quick" as it did!! Oh well, piece of detecting history to continue to play with! And it still finds the goods! Just that quirky winding configuration to deal with! ๐๐

Does This Photo Show The Future Of Detecting
Joe D. replied to geof_junk's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
Chase, You basically covered everything I could have said, on the last two pages!!๐ To me, it comes down to personal value! The most remembered, and valued items I've found, usually don't have much, if any dollar value!! "You can't take it with you"๐ค Well let me rephrase that by saying; a few detectors and finds will fit in a coffin with youโฐ, if you choose to go that route!! But you better be sure to put that in writing for the relatives!!๐คฃ Also, just to add a little ๐ค "positive spin" on catastrophic events that will always plague the world; there is "always something" to find!! Even if its "just" personal belongings to be returned to recent disaster victims! As a relatively "benign" example, I suspect that the recent rare, and heavy rain/flooding around the Las Vegas area, will stir up/expose some nuggets, and other finds!๐๐ -
Half A Silver Ring Anyway
Joe D. replied to F350Platinum's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
Fun stuff Bob, Alot to be said about the "little" finds! Sometimes, it's just the right amount or item, to keep your interest! Until the next one!! I'm guessing, not unlike those "dink" gold nuggets that you prospectors on here, find and post! Different quarry we may have, but same excitement for all, and still worth a read!!๐๐๐ -
Devil's Tongue Park Probe Review
Joe D. replied to F350Platinum's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
I've also used old screwdrivers in the past, even filed the end a bit to take the gouging points off! But the tip was never wide enough for my liking, for trying to "scoop" the target! Also, the basic idea he had behind this tool, (because I asked) was to be as "low profile" in public places as possible! We have come under increasing scrutiny, due to a "few" carrying a big shovel, or large "knife" looking tool, and/or doing damage, which has to be repaired by someone! "Common sense isn't always common!" While it's obviously not for every situation, it has a good place amongst my digging tools! I put a bungee on mine, just like my pinpointer! Long enough to reach without a problem, and if you forget to put it back in your pouch, you will get the "you left me/I fell out" tug!!๐คฃ I also learned the hard way a long time ago, as I lost a pinpointer to the surf line; once!! Expensive lesson, as a noob!๐๐ And, BTW, he can do custom work, just like Steve G., with his detector rods!!๐ -
Devil's Tongue Park Probe Review
Joe D. replied to F350Platinum's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
I was out of town last week, and was able to test mine out in a beautifully manicured Park, in a "permit only" City! Rangers and grounds workers basically ignored me (rare for me๐), as I left the Leche at home intentionally, for this place! Probe worked great!! And yes, I had a permit, If they had asked!!๐ Also tried it in some knarly shell rock and flint hard pack (odd combo), near where I was staying! Found a nickel that was shallow, but didn't even scratch or flex the probe, as I was prying the hell out of it, to get even an inch down!! Metal hardening seems to be spot on!! Great job Ken!!๐๐ -
Welcome Tam, Had to look that one up!! If I'm correct; Scotland!!๐ Talk about historic places to detect!! Wow! It's a wonder that they let anyone detect in Scotland, Other than archeologists!! Wish you much luck with your new detector! And great finds!๐๐๐
