  1. I am using my grandfathers Equinox 800 since he died, and no I have not found a ring yet. I know that it is only a matter of time since I am still learning this unit, so I am happy with what I have already found. Except for the trash that is.
  2. Great finds, and one of these days I will find a ring (I hope). Good luck on your next outing. You must be kidding me, cold? Here it has been in the low 30's if even 30, I have been hunting when it hit a high of 34 a couple of days ago.
  3. Great finds and good hunting for the foundation. The footing area I would be checking for sure and the path to the pond. Some of those ponds were used like a septic tank today, So don't run across any stinky coins. Good luck on your next hunt.
  4. Good finds for this time of the year in your area, and I wish you more luck on your next outing. The reel probably fell out of someones truck, or there used to be a pond located there at one time.
  5. You must be doing something right for sure, as that looks like my trash digs except for just a few coins that I have found. Good luck in 2021.
  6. I have found that when I go the the county building and go through the OLD PLAT books, they will have good information on who lived where and what the old buildings were. I have found that several old buildings that have since been torn down in a small town near me had 16 stables and a hotel. When I get a chance later this year I plan on hitting all of them. Do your research and then re-do the research and ask questions with the oldest people in the area to see if they remember those sites. Good luck and happy hunting.
  7. There has been several gold mines here in Illinois, and several people that I know finds nuggets every year using their metal detector. There is more found using a sluice or dredge in my area than a detector, but I for one am learning how to detect gold with my 800, so soon I will be posting some of those nuggets myself I hope.
  8. Yes all 3 coins are silver and in very good condition. Since it turn colder I have stayed indoors until it gets above 30 degrees, but plan to get back out the soon. Thank you and don't just think that we are the only ones with finds like this, do some research in your area and look for something in the country to hunt. I have found that old churches and schools are the best places to research.
  9. The old clothes lines were to the left of the church and before the cemetery also to the left of the church. They have been gone for almost 50 years now, but you can still see where they were. Thanks for the tip.
  10. Take it easy so maybe you can join them in the future.
  11. I did forget to mention that I used only the factory settings on Park 1, Sense at 18, and then did the standard GB and Noise cancel. When I have some warmer weather I plan to go back and do more than a 20X20 area. This area needs to be gone over very carefully or I will miss something. I have found the 3 locations where the old out houses were located on the property. If anyone has any more suggestions I am all ears and ready to learn what to do next.
  12. For the type of beach that you described I would use the method that Geof has described. He has found a lot of items and I plan to use some of his ideas on a local beach. Good luck and good hunting.
  13. Thank you I hope that I am making him just as happy as I am learning his detector. Thank you and I have just begun on this location and hope that more nice finds are in my future there.
  14. Thank you I just wish I had some of the areas where you are at to hunt. I would love to hunt around some of the old castles in your country. Thank you After I had found it I was going back to the car and had dropped it and had to find it again. They are hard to find when they are by themselves, but easier when there are other coins near them. I am always amazed at some of your finds and hope that someday I will be as good as some of the people on this forum. Thanks
  15. Research is part of the method my grandfather and people on this forum has taught me. I don't think I could have found them without the people here and the advice from them. That's the most important thing as it has given me the desire to get back out there. They don't smell at all and the only cleaning I plan on doing is the ultrasonic cleaner. Thank you I am just happy that I was able to find these coins, the trash was starting to get to me. Thank you I could not believe how good they were, and since there is a possibility of gold I go with the feeling of dig everything because of that. Thanks
  16. Steve it sure looks like a little bit of both copper and gold to me. I agree with Steve about getting an assay to find what is really in it. One of the pictures makes the gold flakes look like Pyrite.
  17. Today I had the chance to get out for a couple of hours to do some hunting and decided on a place where over the past 200 years they have had to rebuild the church 3 times. During the time that the church has been at the same spot they have added on to it a few times to what it is today. This church sits on top of a hill next to the original cemetery when the church was built. I remember seeing some of the old photos that showed an old out house near the back of the church and started there. My first good signal was the typical trash that one would expect to find, and so was the next 20 signals. It seemed that I was going to strike out today when I had a very unusual signal or should I say signals on a small spot of ground. As I am digging I noticed what I thought was another piece of trash, and then I saw a round edge of something small. I pulled it out of the dirt and found a nice 3 cent piece. The signal was still on top of the hole I was digging and I pulled out 2 more coins, each of them were dimes. I rechecked the hole again and nothing else was there, so I decided to fill the hole and call it a day. I don't think it was to bad for just an hour and a half. Here are the photos I took in the car of the coins before I can get them cleaned.
  18. Great hunting in such conditions, and I know that you will be ready to go again soon. Good luck on your next outing.
  19. Welcome to the forum, we are glad to see you here and willing to help with what ever you need. Since I have used my grandfathers Equinox 800 I can tell you that the Mine Lab equipment is solid. Many others have tested the Vanquish series which is very good and does just as well as the 800. It is not waterproof but other than that is almost equal to the 800. There are several threads on here that compare models that are very good and are nice to read. Good luck and good hunting.
  20. Steve, that really helps me in thinking about using my 800 in the creeks near me. Some of them are deeper than 6 feet and I was going to use my scuba tanks with it, now I think I will just keep it above the water most of the time. Thanks for the information.
  21. Grandfather used to find a lot of items at this place he needed for his equipment, and I think he said they were reasonable. https://www.industrialmetalsales.com/main.sc
  22. The best 2 coils to use on the 800 is what everyone has stated before me. I would go with the stock 11 inch and the 6 inch coil and never look back again. Good luck on your hunting and be patient on learning the 800, I myself only use the factory presets and have no problems finding anything. It has even found me some smelly things that were keepers.
  23. Welcome to the forum and I am looking forward to seeing some of your finds. Good luck and happy hunting.
