  1. Beautiful pictures, the 3rd one looks likes a pregnant snail, but I would take it any day.
  2. Loved reading your small book, and glad to see you on the forum. People are here to help you in your families quest to find the gold, and with practice and patience it will happen. Don't feel bad about a long post as I for one love to read a good story, and your is quite nice. Someday I hope to be able to get out there and do what you and your family is doing. Keep hunting and in time it will all fall into place for you.
  3. Welcome Charlie, What type of detector do you have? That is the first thing we need to know as there are many types of detectors out there. I might be able to help you if it is the same as mine, if not I will let you know where to post your question for better help. Good luck!
  4. Grandmothers relatives are from York and it is a great area to do some detecting. Old area there and just a little North of there. Glad to see you here and there is a lot of information from the nice people here. They know just about any problem that you may run across with really good information to help. Welcome and when you get to get out there please share the adventure with us.
  5. keithsw, just remember that those are not waterproof, only the Equinox is supposed to be waterproof. So if you want to take it into the water don't get it wet.
  6. Beautiful ring with little wear on it, glad to see it recovered. Good luck on your next hunt.
  7. After all that hard work I could understand why you would be upset and I know that I would not have held my tongue. Better luck on your next hunt.
  8. Keith, Should you be able to get the 800 it is well worth it because of the gold mode of it. You will find out that there is more to the 800 than a simple upgrade, and that it will do more for you in Florida. Sometimes you can pick up a good used unit with warranty still on it in the classifieds here. Glad your back and WELCOME to the forum.
  9. When did you say you were going to look for it? Great story, however I don't think he would have left it in such a location that could be found so easy.
  10. Fantastic find that I knew you would recover since your first post. It would be very nice to find the real owner of it to brighten their Christmas, but I know you have to be careful with someone that says it is theirs without some kind of proof. That is just the times we live in I guess and I hope that you get to keep it in the end. Good Hunting, Good Luck, and Merry Christmas!
  11. Fantastic hunt for sure with some very nice finds. How much did it weigh? Good luck on your next hunt and please take me with you.
  12. Tom, There is more silver here in Mid-Illinois than people think, I am about 60 miles south of Springfield and have found quite a bit of it east of Hwy. 16. There is also some gold here, but most is flour gold and a few small nuggets. I have panned this area a lot with my grandfather for the past few years and have recovered a few ounces. Most of that has always been flour gold in these parts. There have also been diamonds found in some of our creeks near here that averaged 3 karats or more. The blue clay that you speak of is common around here and do have a lot of silver in it, but is hard to separate it from the clay. We have always just picked the silver nuggets out and discard the rest. It would cost more to have an assay done than what you would get out of the clay on most days.
  13. I am also newbie myself and have found that my grandmothers yard is filled with not only modern trash, but also has very nice old coins in it. So far just using the 800 in normal factory settings I have dug my hearts desire of trash from the yard. I personally think that the factory is better for her yard as I would have missed several nice items by notching out the so called trash. Between many aluminum pieces I have found many coins that did not have a normal reading until they were out of the ground. So I for one do not plan on using the notching feature in the near future, because there are to many good targets to be lost by doing so.
  14. Beautiful beach and some nice finds, please send me the one on the blue blanket. Good luck on your next hunt.
