  1. I looked at one of those Milk Bone ID tags for 16 years on my pup's collar. It was "free" and I think I got it around 1978. No idea how many years they made them though.
  2. Welcome aboard Paul ! Sorry 'bout yer dad . Detecting is like meditation , you concentrate on only the sound and the rest of the world fades away. OK , when you do find something good , it's more like your birthday than meditation but then back to the meditation mode but with a big grin ! If those battery wires are to 9volt batteries. I've broken hundreds of them . And fixed many many more for others...Just counting guitar effects pedals , forget all the radios walkies and detectors etc over the years since I was a kid... VERY easily replaced . The last time I bought some I think they were ~10 for $5 on Amazon. I can't really remember exactly but mucho cheap ( like my seeeeester 👌) Get the ones with the fake leather terminal cover vs. the solid plastic ones They don't break in half like the solid ones always do , and will eventually fail too but last 10 times longer... Then just cut the clips off the wires and connect the new to the old ,,,solder or even twisting the wires and sealing with Goop then tape em up , will get ya goin' again. ( red to red and black to black. LOL ) I've even used just a band aid ....and nothin' else. The show must go on >>>>> A huge amount of info already posted here to investigate and probably a million years of accumulated experience available by just asking a question. This is what I read first , and I STILL haven't made it through everything. PLUS new postings happen all the time
  3. The sea can be the devil himself but she will give up her riches if you play all yer cards right.....(I guess detecting is included under the dirt fishing category ) . Good to hear you got a beacon Joe , love your videos ,,,happy hunting you ol' beach pirate .. I wrote a song back in me "pirate" days. Yer welcome to it for your theme. "All The Gold's For Me ARRRRRRRRRRRRRR" !
  4. I cringe when I see people on you tube do that ! Careful on the way back to the car , you're tired and ..... (I might have done that once without thinking so...)🙄
  5. Welcome aboard Andy ! You just got a heap of good advise (you guys can pay me later) ... LOL But seriously , the factory settings are all pretty good , don't stray too far for now. Once you get some time in and the Nox becomes more familiar , you'll be much more able to hear what your changes are doing and can tweak it in easier . I'm not far ahead of you with a Nox and this place is (as many of my musician friends say) "the balls" for info on one ! Take notes , there's a lot to absorb . Many many questions are already answered in Steve's Guides. so don't miss that ! https://www.detectorprospector.com/magazine/steves-guides/steves-guides/
  6. OK , you guys stop laughing at me when I ask about the maps !!!! What's yer plan for when the answer is YES and we all head to the beach with dump trucks ! Heyyyy , It COULD happen !🤔
  7. The "leftovers" sure looked mighty tasty ! Definitely would have another heapin' helpin' off THAT menu ..😜 Just one @ 20 grams OOOO TAY !🖖
  8. WOW Joe ! You said that beach had a rep for rings so it must have been hit hard already..... And that kind of a rep usually means people were finding more than a few. Hmmm Maybe it was some kind of initiation or graduation tradition and everybody just tossed 'em on purpose ?????? ANYWAY... Guess you showed THAT beach who's da boss ! Id be crazy happy to have a pile like that in a lifetime of hunts , so I guess you showed me too !
  9. Welcome in from the dark side Tahts ! Quite the pile of detectors you have there , which one gets the most use ? Kick the coals in the campfire and sit down for a while ....did you find anything good lately ? Not me... But I'm not giving up that easy.
  10. Welcome aboard Jeffree ! A lot of what has been posted in this thread applies to you as well as oldcop ! If you have any questions about all this , just ask . (And if you have one of those maps with an X marking the spot , we'll be needin' a peek ! ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR )
  11. A LOT of my audio gear in the show systems I used every day were all about time based digital processing. There is a definite audible effect added to the signal with ANY delay. But you have to hear the original along with the delayed part to really notice . I know one of my counterparts that did some experiments on latency to clarify what was going on in some of the newer(at the time) system processing . We were able to hear down to ~ a 10ms delay. But we were comparing with the original signal too. Mentally connecting the motion of a coil to your perception of the sound in your ears is more complicated. It's a very subtle thing that you really have to "train your ears" for. (Or just trust it ..) Detectorists have the added feedback of digging and finding to help identify this delay vs actual location of target so that helps a LOT. My abilities to perceive these type things improved over the years . I took a course in critical listening early on that helped me be more aware of those little differences.. Chase has probably listened for long enough while thinking about what he was hearing in relation to it that he has developed the skill ....(believe me Chase , it's a blessing AND a curse) . Now for the "other thing" MD Mfg's development engineers (or others ,even phone app coders) are usually under corporate pressure to constantly come up with "improvements" to keep the product replacement cycle in a mandatory profit favorable position (thus keeping their jobs). I still have some older digital gear , long ago replaced by "the latest and greatest" that is clearly of superior sound over the new ,,, devices. Those in the know worship such older devices. I see many parallels in the detector markets with these examples (as well as others I have mentioned before , it's a long list actually). And I'm not saying ignore the new stuff but make sure it's actually better before abandoning the old... (something I saw/see many doing with the 6000 eh ? In which case I acknowledge the exception skuh kuh kuh kuh kuh) hope the new BT "standard" sticks around for longer than the last...... Like I think it was 350 said above^ , stock up ! if you intend to keep anything working for an extended period of time, more than the next "better idea" JIC. OR be ready to ride the curve$ of "development" Sad reality but there it is....making a product better has different definitions it seems...LOL Remember , a lot of the people making the decisions likely have no experience with the tech they happily profit from. Ahhhhh , that said , I think I'll go warm up the (not "old" yet) 800 .....
  12. Plenty of targets there ! Hope you can pull out some silver next time....
  13. GJ 80% deet ! 40% works here , so I bow to the bugs in your neck of the woods. May they never multiply to the point they're in MY neck of the woods ! skuh kiuh kuh kuh We did an experiment on a canoe trip in the back country WAY up north.... Everybody brought a different brand and % and we all used just one on any day... The winner was actually only 23% deet (Deep Woods Off) and we had some bottles that were 100% (Ben's) !?????? There is some stuff of legends called "Old Woodsman's" but it repels the women too ! .....wheeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwww ! And YES I found out about deet melting plastic with my hammer handle on a house build ! I also found out with my brand new rain gear that ,,,well , dissolved all the rubber lining ! $150 lesson not including the bug juice ..............
  14. Welcome aboard the crazy train ! If you're new to detecting start with Steve's Guides . If you would like a more personal clue session some of the dealers give classes (some are even free if you buy a detector ). Ask on the forums if you have any questions and you'll hit paydirt with the answers ! (We DO like hunt stories with pics if you're so inclined....)
  15. Geeze ! And I though north of Uptah Camp was bad ! We only have no see ums , "mingies" (might be the same as no see ums but nobody can tell) , black flies , various types of mosquitoes , deer flies , horse flies ("green heads")+ moose flies.....in order of size . Oh yeah , tiny deer ticks have become an issue since Lyme Disease started up too ! I've seen vids of a moose so covered in THEM it killed the giant !!!!errrrk There might be a few I missed. And the house flies don't count...they only make maggots , not try to suck you dry ! Good thing it freezes over up here or we'd all be lost to the hoards!!!!!! Net suits , deet 40% ,+ permethrin are the preferred weapons of defense. arrrrrrgh somebody release the Kraken !
  16. Your development strategy seems to be working by the looks of it Joe , and the results aren't to shabby either!
  17. Sad story for your neighbors. Losing all you have in the world is a bitch , I've BTDT more than once and it ain't any fun...... Some of those places looked like the owners might not have enough to rebuild either . Hope they can get it back to livable before winter .
  18. No surprise vegemite would cure covid ! But 2 doses just "Ain't Right" ! The culinary review phrunt posted is spot on ! At least for me... But you'll have to try it before you know for sure about you !!!!!! Who invented that stuff anyway ??? The prison cooks ? Must have been a food shortage 'er sumpin'........
  19. I'd see Fred+Friends and think ,,,,Hmmm , I wonder what they'd taste like. (Kinda like if you saw a moose here I guess.)
  20. Gotta dig them 20s . After all , Zincolns ARE better than pull top tabs ! Nice contrast with the gold against all that,,, well sorta copper. Good "perseverance" detecting !
