  1. I used my Equinox a lot in longer grass, and also in very rocky areas. The spoked design coils are never my preference but that's all the Equinox has. I couldn't believe it when the Coiltek 10x5" came out as an open design and I asked if they intended to make a solid coil cover for it, they told me no they don't. It would be very funny if Nugget Finder started making solid skid plates for the Coiltek Nox coils, In fact I hope they do. I noticed they have them for the Equinox 11" coil, so I just had to have one. I hope they continue this trend and make them for 6" coil too. Seems well built, fits well... is solid, what more could I ask for? Now I just hope they make more sizes for the other coils, especially the Coiltek 10x5" and ML 6".
  2. What kind of tape do you prefer for sealing your cover to your coil? I know there are cloth tapes that can be bought from detector dealers. But, has anyone found good solutions that are easy and quick to buy at local stores? I've tried high-temp duct tape, but the adhesive is rather hard to remove. I'm currently using fiberglass tape, which seems pretty decent, but has yet to run it's full course. I would think electrical tape may be to gummy. What have you used and liked, or not?
  3. I got a place that has deep coins. I've found a lot there with the Equinox with a lot of them 9 plus inches deep. I'm hoping there are some a little deeper that I've missed with the 11 coil on the Equinox that the 13 deus might pick up...any ways just playing to see what might show up. Also will have the Equinox with me to play with. I've found all the other coins with the recovery speed on 7 and thinking about slowing it down to see what might happen. Like I said, just playing around to see if I can possibly get an older deeper coin. HH!
  4. Finally got my hands on one of these coils and am grateful. I was also lucky. Very lucky. First thing I was pleased about was that my Equinox coil bolt worked, it was a little tight but went right through. Did a system reset and re-paired my headphones. Next I noticed the coil cover is kinda sloppy, so I grabbed a couple of black zip ties, problem solved. I have an ear stiffener on my large coil with zip ties so this is no big deal to me. It will be easier to get off than the Minelab cover which was tough to get on, let alone off. It was kinda late in the day, so I set up my usual settings, Field 2, sensitivity 23, F2=3. This is what I used last weekend at the campground to score over 200 coins, although I had to switch to 10kHz a few times to cancel EMI. I went out in the back yard to a spot where there are hundreds of bullet shells of all sizes and metals, some steel, others varying brass, and a lot of lead. I wanted to see how the coil performed in a very dense metal environment. I noise cancelled, and then ground balanced in a spot with no metal. The first thing that struck me was how easily this coil goes silent when pumping it, I almost never get a perfect reading with the 11" coil, so I just go with it. This coil went silent after a few pumps no matter where I balanced, either turf, soil, or the dreaded "gravel test" in my driveway. If you've ever hunted in gravel, you know what I mean. The silence after about 5 pumps was shocking, and then every real target appeared with no false sounds. Wow! I tried it in a bit of field, thinking what a bonus it will be this fall because they planted corn this year. Real easy to maneuver. In turf it "falsed" a bit when it hit tall grass or stiff weeds, but not nearly as bad as the 11". Another thing I noticed was how "tight" the target IDs were. steel shells were 9 -11, brass 13-15. It almost seems like the coil has laser precision identifying targets. Can't wait to see how accurate pinpointing is! I didn't dig anything because I just got my lawn looking good, but I plan to take it to an area where there is a ton of trash, and see what I'm missing. It picked up targets at max depth, so the proof will be in the diggin'. Just a first impression, more to come.
  5. I'm still looking for an Equinox 800 and have been cruising ebay. Serious Detecting has several "slightly used" 600's and 800's with the images of the bottoms of the coils with white material exposed. Where the white isn't exposed it appears to me that the bottom of the coil is just covered with a plastidip or spray bedliner like substance. I know nothing about the Equinox and I'm guessing that the white is the internal expandable foam that holds the coil wires in place? From the images the coil bottoms don't appear to be worn to expose the white, is this a quality control issue? Are the bottoms of the Equinox coils generally exposed like this, with no hard bottom, or are these coils an anomaly. This image also shows a coil cover/skid plate, but several of the ads don't indicate that a cover is included.
  6. I know myself over the years liked to hunt with a small coil but you had the option of a round coil and really was it Now days you can get them in about any variation one would want. I’d like to hear from others if you see the need for a smaller coil like the one I started this post with. Up front I want everyone know I think the beast 12” coil is great and I don’t have trouble swinging it. For myself I see the need of having a small coil would be a advantage to me when not a BeachHunter . The main advantage to a small coil to start with is you can get it in places that 12” won’t fit. As always the Best To all! Chuck
  7. How hard is it to make the hard-wired coil cable on the compadre to a removable, plug in type? I have two compadres; one with the 8” donut and the other with the 6”. If I made them removable I could use them on my mojave and vice versa. I’m pretty handy and can solder. Just need a source for the connectors and which ones to get.
  8. Where's the HotSpot on the Goldbug 2 6.5" Elliptical Coil?
  9. Since the 15'' Coiltek coil for Equinox detectors has been out for a while, I'm wondering if there have been any meaningful comparisons? Especially regarding sensitivity and depth.. Any feedback would be much appreciated.. 😁
  10. Why do the 11” and 15” coils have a small arrow pointed toward you at the top of the coil?
  11. trying to decide , 11inch coil x35 or the 11x13 x35 anyone have experience with both
  12. Hi guys so the “new to me” atx arrived - mint condition which is great. I have several older ATX coils with various cable faults and wanted to rewire one onto a straight cable. (Do I need a 4 wire and screen cable?) I wonder if anyone has a wiring diagram at all, or failing that - the original cable has 4 wires and a unshielded screen on the DD coil. Is the screen Actually connected to any of the 4 wires? I can’t seem to get the “iron check” feature to work on my salvaged coil and guess this may be due to the screen cable? i know the windings are circa 9ohms and 1.3 ohms any help appreciated on the DD and Mono wiring. fyi / had a swing with the atx today - it’s still a great machine!
  13. I have an easy and maybe stupid question to present now... Observing my TDI Bh, with both of the coils I own (the original 12" and the aftermarket Detech 8"), I can clearly see way too long wire around the shaft and I'm forced to make several loops up to the control box near the handle. Supposing to measure the right lenght for the maximum extended shaft, and to cut away the hipmount mile long cable.....Am I doing a disaster or not? I actually can't remember the technical cable's specs in the amazing pdf Steve posted time ago, but if I'm correct it talked about to reduce some current resistance with a slight performance improvement too...Have I seen a mirage or what?... I'm not kidding 😜... It's just me, looking for something to play with, suffering for a missed AQ.
  14. Fisher contacted me for a purchase of an AQ and was offering the 8" coil. I passed on the AQ since I already have two. Anyone purchased the 8" and what is your opinion?
  15. Hello all. I’m new to this forum and am seeking advice on my detector. I recently acquired my dads gpx5000. It’s a big step up from my ML xterra 705. He gave me 2 commander coils. An 11” mono and an 11” DD as well as a coiltek 12x18 goldstalker mono. Previous to this, I was interested in the GM1000 because of its ability with smaller gold. My question is can I make this gpx as good or better for small gold as the GM1000 by using a smaller coil. As you can tell I’m relatively new to this. Lol Thank you Steve
  16. Is it just my imagination or is the Tarsacci MDT 8000 a different machine with the 12 inch coil on it?? Just seems to be more stable to me, I ran the machine yesterday with the stock coil, same settings basically in a farm field, just didn’t seem to be the same as a few days ago with the 12 inch.
  17. For anyone interested in seeing how a Dual Field is put together, I recently did a video on making one after reading a lengthy thread on the Geotech Forum. Cheers
  18. I wish I had found this forum earlier. Just signed up today. This is best detector forum I have ever seen. I have an old GTAX 1000. Bought it new back in 2000. The factory coil (Crossfire Supreme Deepseeker) was destroyed in a car accident. The control head and top tube section were not touched. I home brewed a bottom tube and it works fine. I called Kellyco asking for a replacement coil. The sales person said they only had one coil that would work with a GTAX 1000. A week later I received from Kellyco a Garrett Pro Performance Elliptical search coil. I called Garrett to make sure the coil would work and was advised that it would. I purchased the new coil almost a year ago. I'm just now getting around to installing it. Here's the problem: The end connector on the new search coil cable will not fit the GTAX 1000 coil cable receptacle. Both cable connectors of the new and old search coils are five pin but of a different configuration. I can solder the old connector to the new detector coil cable. I'm just not sure of which pins of the old connector the new coil wires go to. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a new detector but I want to keep the old one because it has served my purpose for many years. Both Kellyco and Garrett detectors said the new coil will work with the GTAX 1000. I have attached photos of the two cable connectors. This is really a great forum. Earlier this afternoon I looked the forum over for over an hour. My old GTAX 1000 has found many civil war artifacts. I want to keep it alive. Thanks, Bruce in Kingston, OK
  19. Since I put the 15 inch coil on my 800, I’ve noticed the balance is now NOSE HEAVY....is there a fix to balance it out...ie not be so NOSE HEAVY....??
  20. Hi all ! and cheers for the add ! I have had the Nox for nearly 3 years now and have finally bitten the bullet and grabbed a Monster 😁 also this morning Eyyyyhaaa ! Now for the stupid first question (I've had a read and could not find anything in a post on it 😔) Has anyone here tried a Nox 15 inch coil on the Gold Monster. The Nox can run at 40mHz and the Monster runs 45mHz so pretty close there and I have read (not confirmed) elsewhere that the coils have proprietry chips in them to stop interchangeability. They both fit each others coils though even though some said the plugs would not but I have not been game to turn on the monster with the Nox's 15 inch coil plugged in. (Big chicken 🤣) The thought of the Monster with a 15 inch coil is so tempting So back to the big ask. Has anyone actually tried ? (Ps love my 2 nox 800s)
  21. I am looking for some guidance on what coil size to use when I go into an area for the first time. I am using a White's Goldmaster 24k and have a complete set of coil sizes. I would be working in either Nevada or Arizona. When I enter an area for the first time I do not know if it has been worked previously or is virgin ground. Does this information affect my coil size choice? Should I plan to make just one pass over an area or two passes using a large coil first and then a smaller coil? I don't want to miss a larger deep target and I would also like to find the smaller near surface targets. I am assuming that if I see signs of dry washer activity that a smaller coil would be a good first pass choice, am I correct? Thanks in advance for your advice.
  22. Saw this while looking for something else. Seems like a good price? Thought I would share here. Maybe it is not a favored coil as I’ve read it is heavy and not much deeper than 11” on the F75. The F75 coil full price is $150 however.... so maybe not.
