What brand of detector would you need to find this?  (If it was buried.)

Almost any of them would work, but you would also have to have armed security team to watch your back.

Apparently the author of this piece doesn't read his/her own article.  Solid?

The cube measures over a foot and a half on all sides and has a wall thickness of about a quarter inch. (emphasis mine).

The $11.7 million is probably right, though.  A solid cube of pure gold, 18 inches on a side..., now that would be worth something (and also be difficult to move around, weighing about 2 tons or as much as a large automobile).

What a waste of good gold! Seems like an "easy mark", for determined bad guys!

It would look much better, and safer, in small bars, In my bank, in the vault! I would visit it often, so it wouldn't be lonely!?

If only you were allowed to detect at Central Park.  It’s a little bit smaller than Golden Gate Park but older, it’s loaded with silver, gold, oh and aluminum galore!

It is hard to put together a heist from the park for just a one day show!  They have more of a problem now with 'where do we keep it?'
