Are Legend, Deus II & Manticore, Going To Impact Tarsacci?

Seems like the Tarsacci is running out of steam in the face of all the new competition. Yeah, I know some of you guys love them. But what buzz they had seems to be about gone.

I agree with Chuck.  I love the Tarsacci, but there is no marketing support from the company.  Myself, Aaron, Cliff and to a lesser degree Dew have all run out of steam trying to support the Tarsacci.  Dimitar builds a great machine, but the Tarsacci is dying in silence due to lack of marketing support.

Didn’t the inventor work for Fisher at some point and develop and manufacture this thing on his own?  I wouldn’t say he has done nothing, probably more than most of us have. 

Was it risky? Probably.

Also doubt his price point, volume, and manufacturing ability warrant tons spent on marketing. Kind of a niche detector no? Maybe it needed more creative marketing.  

Anyway, answering the question with blanket self quotes, what does that accomplish?

Had 2 of them and although they are a good machine, the audio was never something I could get used to. I found it much more enjoyable to use the Equinox. The slight edge in depth over the Equinox was not worth it to me. Easier to just skip to a PI if I needed depth. I just don't see the Tarsacci surviving in the face of all the competition unless Dimitar makes some changes to the platform.

I actually talked to Dimitar personally about his detectors on the phone at one point. The idea of setting up the Tarsacci Forum came to me, and I suggested it to him as a good way to get some free exposure. He was receptive to the idea, and also the idea of appearing on the forum to answer questions.

But he never showed. More than that, he seems to resist being informative about the detector. He takes more of a stance that us real users will find out more about how to use it by actually going to use it, and wants to leave figuring the mystery out to us. All the actual information on how to use the machine has been driven more by users, than the actual designer of the detector.

As an introvert myself I get it. Dimitar is an engineer, and does not like interacting on social media. More fun to just work on his circuits and stuff. But if you are going to make a detector to sell.... you actually have to sell it! This is more like "build it and they will come." Well, not in this day and age.

Dimitar did work for Fisher at the end. He was the brains behind the last generation of product, including the Coin Strike and Gold Strike. He has quirky designs that do not follow convention, like negative threshold controls. The machines actually perform well, but were huge market failures, and have been credited by some as being part of Fisher's demise, and eventual purchase by First Texas. I see echos of that in the MDT-8000, a detector with various interface design quirks. I think Dimitar would benefit from sticking with circuit design, and leaving interface options up to somebody else.

You could say the Coin Strike and Gold Strike were good machines, but they did not fulfill certain end user expectations as far as how they should act, and how they interface with the user. But they did actually perform. It is harsh and not fair to blame Dimitar for the failure of Los Banos Fisher. That honor falls squarely on Roger Cimino, President of Fisher Research at the time. But I do think if something does not change, that Tarsacci will end up as a small footnote in detector history. The one man show thing is admirable, but really can't survive longer than the one man is willing to run the show. The new machines being released are far more polished, and in the case of the fully waterproof Legend in particular, far less expensive. It’s hard to see how the MDT succeeds in the face of competition like that. Unless it's just as a vanity project for a few niche users. Nothing wrong with that.

Here is what I know about this detector. Or shall I say what I don't know because I wasn't actually there. About 4 years ago here in So.Cal either a representative or the owner ( I could find out) met with 3 of my detecting friends on a local beach. One in particular had been seriously interested in buying one for awile. This beach has a ton of trash and is what I would call medium blacksand. Well , this guy couldn't for the life of him get it to work properly at all. After 20 minutes of everyone tinkering with it to get it to work , they gave up. My friends grabbed their machines and hunted. This poor guy apologized an hour later and everyone left. My friend said after that he would never buy one and that was enough for me...

I liked the Tarsacci, the way it could reject foil , I sold it cuz i had to pay my car insurance  and i never got to a beach . And i was hunting tot lots where my ORX excelled

The machine has done very well for me where I can take it.   The biggest advange for me being water proof, and very dependable.   No drips no leaks no send backs.    I truly believe take all the machines mentioned above (including Tarsacci) on most any beach.    The biggest difference in overall finds will because of       1.   the hunter     2. luck         As in all good hunting   it's the site, the hunter , than the machine  that counts.      Gold and Silver started drying up a while back, now  finding  coins on most beaches is getting horrible.    Ain't no machine gonna fix that.    

It's true though lack of marketing is a mystery.
