I saw today that Calabash has pulled his content and quit Youtube.  I enjoyed his content with my own opinions of course.

You need a thick skin to put yourself out there, especially if you like to stir the pot. I fully sympathize as this forum is largely set up the way it is to protect my own peace of mind. The open internet can be vicious and genuinely harmful if not managed properly. Sometimes it’s just not worth it and the best solution is to step away. He has my best wishes.

He was brutally honest with himself and his followers and detractors in his final farewell video.  He totally understood the dynamic, recognized the haters were never going away and never going to embrace him, and he was very self aware of how he, himself evolved in a positive manner during his YouTube journey.  It just became to much of a time sink and he fully recognized when it was time to walk away before completely burning out.  Some great nuggets in his farewell for budding YouTubers.  This video convinced me once and for all that I am probably not cut out to be content provider in that medium.  I'll stick to the written word.

Too bad he pulled it all down. Could have just left it be and would still pull in some revenue just coasting on the existing content. Just lock it and walk away. A lot of it genuinely good stuff (some was just the opposite) and a shame to lose. Those great nuggets to budding Tubers will never be seen now.

Ive only watched a few of his early videos, and sern him on the forums...but didnt he bring alot of this on himself? I didnt care for his style, why I didnt watch.

He had a polarizing style but that also created a formidable following of both haters and loyalists.  As they say, in entertainment, any publicity is good publicity and monetization doesn’t care whether people are viewing or even subscribing to hate or to love.  So it was one of the elements that made his channel successful.  He had a reckoning at some point and finally figured out that the haters didn’t matter and came through that awhile ago. He left the platform not because of the haters but because generating content had become a chore and time sink, I.e., it wasn’t fun and exciting anymore - he simply burned out on it and decided to move on not unlike any other hobby that you no longer consider a worthwhile occupier of your time.

Whether you love or hate him, the final video lays this all out and is a worthwhile view and cautionary tale on YouTube content generation.

Yeah not my cup of tea. Not watching is the answer. Walk away. Some people brought themselves low in response to Calabash. Too often we become what we respond to. Find another path.

And since this forum is not a place where I think we need to discuss people I’m going to bring this thread to a stop. The forum is about gold prospecting and metal detecting, it’s not about what we think of other people. I’ll just end by stating I have plenty of failings as a human being and that makes it pretty easy for me to forgive failings in other people. Life is hard and we never really know other people, the things they suffer that make them act like they act. A little humility and forgiveness goes a long way. You all have a great day.
