Almost all I've read here for several months now is about one detector brand vs the same brand model questions, comparisons,  personal reviews and such.

I thought most of these should be on that brand forum(which I follow religiously) and this was a forum about showing finds and and talking about new areas, how to and so on.....

Sorry If I'm wrong.....please say so and I'll fade away.

When you're hot , you're hot  , except when you're not.

I see activity on Most OF the other brand Forums here on DP in last ..18 hrs.

Many here own other brands . Just DP is home to some "heavy hitters" on the MineLab team.

Yes , the hot threads are on MineLabs latest . Just what everybody wants to learn about...IMO , You'll probably see the same post by brand ratio elsewhere ?

Try posting a question on a different brand of your choice ,(I didn't see one in your Sig line) ?

Here's just one new post example

How many finds have you posted?

Yup, you are new here. You are looking around, and I guess you don’t like what you see. Next move is up to you, because the discussion is what it is. You can participate or not. What’s not going to happen is the entire membership change what they are doing just because you showed up, and decided how and what people should post about.

The forum veers off into whatever is the hot topic of the day. That often is the latest and greatest of any brand. One brand dominates... whose fault is that? There have been times this forum would be discussing other brands more, but if they are not delivering the goods, shame on them.

The bottom line is this is a prospectors campfire, the discussion goes where it goes, and you can participate or not, leave or stay, but something tells me people are going to continue to post about what they want, not what you think they should post about. I did not make you post what you did, and it’s not about detecting either, less so than others. It would have been more appropriate to PM the mod with that sort of thing. How dare you!

Seriously, this used to be the only forum here, and ALL discussion took place here. Everything. Now it’s been largely divided up... after the fact. I made the divisions, and moved the content. Everything before a few years ago all originated on this one forum, and much still does. After six pages, I still move content to other forums, like Minelab posts to Minelab forum. They did not all get made there. Start reading after page ten, and you’ll see a forum more like you crave, because I’ve moved everything by then. Page six is my cutoff for scanning and moving.

So basically you do not know the forum, or it’s history, but think you know how it SHOULD be run, and what content SHOULD be here. Thanks, I guess. Let’s see if everyone toes the line. Judging by my recent posts I’d say I’m a direct target of your thread, so good luck with that.

Let me put that another way. This particular forum is comprised of people who use metal detectors to find gold nuggets. There are some heavy hitters here from around the world. It’s like a prospectors convention. This is what we are talking about. Stay? Leave? That sums it up.

Steve and Mike, I totally agree 100% with Steve with what he created with his forum. This is Steve's forum! It is his discision as to how this forum should be. Steve is right in the fact that this is much like sitting around a camp fire after a long day nugget hunting. The discussion flows as water flows where ever the power of interest takes everyone. It is your choice to join in or not. It is not for you or anyone else who doesn't like it- even me to try and change it. If you don't like the conversation topics, just wait a while, it will change, and perhaps you will like the next topic. I am sick and tired of people coming in from the outside and trying to change something that works very well, just because they don't like it. I am sure everyone who likes this camp fire, as Steve puts it, likes this safe space, comfortable space, just the way it is. There are other forums out there, and if you are the type that feels you have to socially change something good then go to those! Leave this one alone. We all like it!

The forum has grown some...picture your trying to write a book and keep it organized by having a table of contents and an index...hard enough to do this when it's all your own material and thoughts...now try doing it when there are 100's of other people adding to your book  on a minute by minute basis....it becomes a bit of a challenge...

Welcome to this amazing forum.

Right now, Minelab is the king, queen and all the prince and princesses of the gold prospecting pulse induction detector world. There are only a few other distant contenders for a place at the table. They are welcome to take a seat too if they are worthy. Whether they are worthy or not gets discussed here along with how Minelab pulse induction/ZVT detectors are doing out in the field with plenty of comparisons within the Minelab brand.

Then there is the VLF detector gold prospecting category which is once again, dominated by Minelab, with First Texas, Nokta Makro, XP and Garrett/Whites having a good share of the conversation currently.

Giving out obvious, exact information on places to gold prospect with a detector...........that information may or may not be found here (probably not for good reasons.....). The same goes for exact settings which sometimes are not just site specific but are also individual target specific.

The other brand locations do sometimes have prospecting carryovers that are eventually moved here. If you are a Minelab person, you will find Minelab detector information in all of the categories that are not brand specific. Then there will be plenty under Minelab detectors for sure.

Sometimes there are some topics on prospecting without a detector that are included here too.

The Classifieds ad forum is provided as a free service for active, involved forum members. Ads may not be placed on the forums but only here in the Classifieds. Members will have to have made at least ten posts over a minimum of a 30 day period on the forums before being allowed to post in the Classifieds. Making worthless posts to run up the number does not count. Herschbach Enterprises is not responsible for issues resulting from the use of the Classifieds forum. As always, buyer beware!
No negative comments. If you see an issue, contact the seller or a moderator via pm. Notify everyone when the item has been sold. Use the edit function to modify the original post to do so or add a post saying the item has been sold. Protect yourself. Be careful about giving any sensitive information to prospective buyers. Advertising deemed inappropriate or out of place for any reason may be deleted without warning. The standard Forum Terms of Use apply. Dealers are welcome as long as the items advertised are somehow involved in products related to the prospecting and metal detecting world. Dealers must identify themselves as such. I ask that dealer ads be limited to genuine special deals like closeouts and used detectors. See my general policy regarding dealers for details. 2/17/19 update - Dealers may have no more than two ads at any one time, and ads not updated at least every 30 days may be removed.

The Classifieds is designed to protect you from unwelcome contact. Only registered forum members can contact you via PM (Personal Messaging). This does mean if you want people who are not forum members to be able to contact you that you need to put that information in your ad.

Be as descriptive as possible and always try to include clear pictures of clean items. Many ads are ruined by blurry pictures or not taking the time to clean items before sale. Be sure to make note of any remaining transferable warranty.

Review your ad one last time after you place it to be sure everything is accurate. You have the ability to edit it at any time.
Go to your ad and at bottom next to quote button hit edit You should be able to edit everything there, including the title. The Tag selection lets you put For Sale, Wanted, and other mini banners on your ad. Put up a SOLD! banner when your item sells or ends and the ad will be deleted within a couple days. Ads by non-dealers may be deleted by the admin after 90 days if no attempt is made to update them or otherwise indicate they are still active.  In order to not have to check back to see if somebody has posted in response to your ad, be sure and check the slider control in lower left "Notify me of replies" . You will be sent a message notifying you of any responses.
A big tool for sellers is the eBay sold listings. Go to eBay and search for what you plan on selling. Then click the "used" box on left. Then click the "sold listings" box. Now you can see all similar items that sold recently and what they sold for, giving you a realistic way of checking current market value. Oddball items unfortunately may not have enough sales volume to get help this way.
A note about the Google Ads - I know we all hate ads but they pay for the website. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. All I can do is to promise not to go overboard with them.

You can edit but not remove posts. To have a classified post/thread removed, simply edit the original post and change the Tag (the little gray and red banner) from For Sale to SOLD! The ad will then be removed within a day or two. I like to leave the sold notice up for a short time so people who were looking know a sale was made instead of the item just disappearing.
You may also PM or email me to request removal. Or change the title to say SOLD!
Ads may be deleted by the admin after 90 days if no attempt is made to update them or otherwise indicate they are still active.

Why is question about whites TDI moved and questions concerning Minelab are allowed?

I go to extreme lengths to bring information on new detectors to this website. Many others help. Trademarks are watched, patents, corporate reports, leaks from overseas dealers.... anything that can be found that offers hints to upcoming product. It is a large driver here as many are interested in the latest and greatest. Many experts here add valuable commentary. The volume of information here can get overwhelming when we are on a roll. I try to bury people with early info. As a result, this is the place to be if you like information. Those that only visit the forum, you are missing out on years of effort put into other parts of this website, and you really should look at those other areas. I've never written a book on this stuff per se, but if I did, most of it would be repeating what comes out here a post at a time.
I am also a stickler for accurate information. I'm very well plugged into most things metal detecting, and when I see somebody crossing lines with inaccurate information, I take care of it. Not to brag, but after 45 years of doing this every day, the depth and breadth of my knowledge on various brands is rather encyclopedic. I do not want to create fake machine info as is done on other websites just to attract clicks. It either passes my accuracy filter, or I delete it. You can trust what you see on this site as having a very high degree of accuracy, and there are smart people here to call it out if it is not.
And then people show up and talk hype. They literally come here to partake of all this information, and then turn right around and call it hype. I guess it is the sheer volume of information and the enthusiasm they see as hype. Some get caught up in it, and make poor decisions. Then they want to blame their poor decisions on hype.
      I'm calling B.S.
This website by and large is for serious adults, not children. I have no time to waste with people who cannot take responsibility for their own actions, and want to throw the hype card out as a cover for their poor decision making abilities. I LOVE INFORMATION and I collect and pour it out here. I AM PASSIONATE ABOUT THE SUBJECT MATTER. I am basically a big kid, these are my toys, and I get all giddy when I get new toys. I've lived for this stuff since I was 14 and I'm 63 now... you sure as heck are not going to change me at this point.
If you don't like all that, if it's all hype to you, you are in the wrong place. I'm not sure what you are looking for. A placid site with no information to trigger that credit card reflex? Heck if I know. What I can tell you is I work hard, very hard, for all of you by working hard for me. I gather information and learn things FOR ME, but I am also very happy to share what I know WITH YOU. If you want, and I assume up front that by being here that is what you want. Given the effort I am making, the easiest way to get on my bad side is to bring up the hype thing. If all this information and enthusiastic forum membership is too much for you to handle, just go away. I cannot understand why people watch the website, see all the info, join, and then bitch about the basic nature of what we are doing here.
I have watched for years as the best people, the ones who really know what they are talking about, tire of this nonsense and disappear. You don't think we need that crap, do you? It is the craziest shoot yourself in the foot thing I have ever seen. I envisioned this as a place where those people could come and share what they know, to the benefit of all. But in trying to please everyone I lost sight of that mission. No more.
That's my rant. We have a new machine into that I am very excited about. There are world class experts here ready to discuss the machine and have fun with a rare gift - a new gold getting beast. If that's not your thing, you do not want to have fun with all that, please take the debbie downer stuff somewhere else. I'm not trying to make everyone happy, I'm not everyone's cup of tea, and I'm extremely cool with that. I'm trying to collect my tribe here, the people that get it, and want to be part of it. I really hope that is you, but if not, there are zillions of places that may better suit. I set this website up expressly because I wanted a place to play with my friends, and I never put a gun to anyone's head to be here. If you are one of those that like to play the hype card, know that I set this place up to get away from you!!
One of the very best things about getting older is being able to let my "grumpy Steve" out to play if I want.

I would like to add a little element of fun for people to encourage posting of finds. What I am thinking is a forum where each month people can post what they think it a nice find, and a story with it would help. I’d set up a winners gallery for the monthly winners, issue a DP certificate to the winner each month by way of a pdf file they can print, frame, and display. Winners would be chosen by employing the “like” system so that the forum membership picks the winner each month. There would also be a year end contest to decide the winner for the year.
I have had this idea for some time, but the problem for me was in how to offer a prize, without people trying to game the system. Cash makes people do funny things. Mailing stuff is expensive, and we have members worldwide.
Last night I had an epiphany. What I’m proposing is each month, I will make a $100.00 donation the the winners choice of charity. The donations would probably go to a list that we can chose from, and I need to research donation sites to find the best one to work with that offers the widest range of charities. The winner picks the charity, I’ll make the donation. This will be tallied over time so members can see how much total we have given to charity. The year end contest would be a larger amount, like maybe $500.00. I would make the donations personally, and yes, I would write them off on my taxes to help offset the cost. So it would be me making the donation to a charity of the winners choosing. I will post donation receipts just to be transparent.
This forum is paid for with those pesky Google ads. The revenue pays the hosting and software fees that run over a grand a year. My time...  There is excess that basically pays a couple utility bills each month for me. However, the forum has been growing rapidly, and revenue with it. I do not need the money. So I’d like to start giving it back. If this works, I will employ my industry connections to ask manufacturers to maybe help by providing some additional prizes if they wish, but I have to be careful how I do that, as a contest for a detector could stir up the kind of competitive issues I want to avoid. So I have to think that over. Or maybe they would help with charity donations on top of what I’m doing? Anyway, lots of things we could do, but in general I’d like this to be oriented to charity. It this goes well, I will probably boost the spending as the forum continues to grow, hopefully providing the revenue stream to make that happen.
That’s the gist of it for the moment. Any thoughts, suggestions, etc.? Some of you have probably done something similar and can see pitfalls to avoid? I think the plan is sound and different than what I’ve seen before, and I love the idea of competing to give to charities.

I am very fortunate to have made JPs acquaintance years ago on Finders Forum when I was trying to learn more about my new sd2200d. Those were great times on a great forum, everyone friendly and sharing. JP is a literal gold mine of deep Minelab knowledge, with personal ties to Bruce Candy. We got to know each other a little over the net, and then I was fortunate enough to be invited to Oz to spend a month of time detecting with JP and Chris Ralph.
I have never had a better host in my life than Jonathan Porter. He is like this crazy camp host who insists on cooking and who selflessly shared his locations and gold with me for a solid month. It was one of the best times of my entire life.
The Aussie forums went downhill and became combative. To my dismay I found myself acting like an asshole in response. This forum was set up as a direct response to my experience watching forums self destruct. I wanted this place to be like the old Finders Forum. By and large I’ve achieved that goal over the last few years.
But a problem developed. As this forum has become the place to be for information, it is attracting some people who have history of some sort with JP. A lot of it seems to be tall poppy syndrome. Other stuff is more real and personal. Maybe some of you have legit beefs with JP.
Here is the deal. I don’t care what those issues are. Jonathan Porter is my friend. I’ve learned a lot from him. I’d like to learn more. I know of nobody outside Bruce who has deeper knowledge about current Minelab product, and JP is a truly superb detectorist to boot.
People dogging JP is at cross purposes to the forum as far as I am concerned. I think there are quite a few people here who would like to hear more from JP without him having to swat files and getting grumpy in the process. Long ago I promised him a refuge here, and I have failed in that by trying to accommodate everyone. But I guess the time has come to declare allegiances, and I choose still to stand with JP.
If anyone has a problem with that it is simple. There are a dozen forums you can go to instead where you can spend all your time talking about JP and me and the multiple ways in which we are horrible people. I’m really fine with that. Those who wish to stay are also very welcome, but from now on keep in mind that having a go at JP is the same as having a go at me. And my patience after four years has hit rock bottom. We have a new detector on the way, and lots of exciting stuff to talk about. If you want to share information and have fun, stay. Anything else, please leave. If it is just ten of us here I can handle that. I don’t need this forum or website, and it either gets back on track or I will continue to take action until it does.
This is not about products, this is about personalities and who gets along with who. I think JP deserves one place on the internet where he is truly welcome by all, and anyone that gets in the way of that here will eventually be rooted out. Thanks and good night!
