More Finds With Eq800 In El Paso Mountains

Recommended Posts

Gold Catcher posted a week or so back about his trip to the El Paso mountains..a place I go to all the time. I have detected here in the past with a GPX5000 which I said wasted my gas, resources and worst of all TIME! I know a lot of people have had LOTS of success with that detector but I have witnessed with my own eyes a large(small potato size) specimen "sprinkled with gold NOT set off a GPX5000! I've been out with my EQ800 less than 6 times and have numerous "small" pieces of gold as well as a 4.3 gram nugget and a 1.71 ounce nugget just this past weekend. The larger nugget is a conglomerate and I plan to take it to one of my friends, Pat K. and have him fire up his 5000 to see what response he gets with it. Anyway, now I am enjoying prospecting again and I hope to be able to test out a GPX6000 next month in the same area.

That's a monster! Wow! well done.

Detectors like the GPX 5000 need a companion VLF to get the best results as they have their strong points, and their weak points which a VLF takes care of, it's not until the GPZ and now GPX 6000 that a VLF is far less necessary.

Well done.

I've used a 5000 in the El Pasos, a 7000 and my 800.  I've used the 800 the least but mostly with the 6 inch and all with limited success.  I've known others who have found and worked patches with GBs and Monsters.

On that piece that you show, what were the Nox Numbers?

If Pat doesn't meet up with you and his 5000 I could meet you there sometime.

Great looking nugget, you had some nice skills to obtain it I am sure.

One of these days I hope to get out west to find some of those pieces.

Good luck on your next hunt.

Two carrots is 112 grams.  I'm not good at maths but you maybe able to work it out? 🙂

170 ct   =   34 grams

So the nugget is more like 1.1 oz..right?

In the middle of Day 2 of Gerry McMullen's and assitants' 3 day class, he brings over a dozen gold specimens of many shapes, sizes, and compositions.  Then he takes the state-of-the-art detectors (including GPX, GPZ, and top IB/VLF's) to see which detectors sound off on which nuggets.  Best part of the lecture section of the class (but obviously not close to the one-on-one in-field instruction that follows).

Anyone who was paying attention during that demonstration won't be surprised at your experience with the GPX5k, nor the haul that Gerry and his expert assitants have made with that detector over the years.
