  1. Had to go over to Monterey the end of March to help my relations move some things back to Wyoming and since the weather was just great at the time on the way home i made time for a day trip to do some detecting with the GB pro and managed a few small ones, all found detecting bedrock cracks and crevices.

  2. To Minelab Australia and all Australian Minelab dealers..... There was a collective sigh of relief heard all across Australia today when there was actual proof that I had made to Australia this year with all my metal detecting gear intact!!! The 800 is all there....and---- I think I even know where I put the Gold MONSTER.... Life is always good on OZ...

  3. So here is the gold I got last weekend after an acid bath. I think they could use a second bath as I think the acid tends to reach a maximum degree of cleaning when it turns orange. These were in acid for a couple days.

  4. Well even though I said I was poking fun, you still decided to take me seriously. You have every right to be demanding and fussy. Never said you were or were not endorsing the machine (I dont have personally care whether other people like it or not) nor did I think that you were adding to the "supply problem". I was merely humorously pointing out the amusing contradiction that you (justifiably) want Equinox to be more than it is yet you are still willing to buy a 2nd machine. You missed my point completely. I find it ironic that even people who are not 100% all in on the machine like it enough to get more than one and that those same people wonder why ML can't keep up with the demand. Most folks are more than pleased with the machine so it makes sense that ML never even had a chance to meet that ridiculous end of March backlog clearing goal. Meanwhile the backlog grows ever larger as the Equinox demand snowball rolls down the hill. That just makes me smile and shake my head ruefully. Lol. Nothing wrong with thinking that way, Nuke, it just tickles my funny bone, that's all.

  5. Finally, they have arrived, now I can put the snorkel back on..... Extra long cable, 41" of straight cable from connector allowing you to Velcro under the arm and still have plenty of cable to the headphones. No cable having to dangle in front of your face! Loudness is good, preliminary garage tests show constant mid 70's decibels on a target with full volume on the machine settings. Fit is typical Koss yellows and can be improved with gel ear pads which will be on order shortly. Cliff

  8. This morning the tide was in early so i went to the beach for an 8am start , the tides are a bit short right now and much of the beaches are built up . I used the Nox today and i decided to have a go on the dry tops and try to solve the EMI issues . First though i got my feet wet looking for goodies low down and came across a few coins and a knackered strange looking Silver ring with its band broken . When i got to the area that has the worst EMI i went up to the tops and did a noise cancel , this time it worked . Though only for 15 minutes or so then i had to do it all over again and then again ...... . By the end of the search i had found £22.72p and the Silver ring . I wish the Gold would show up , maybe it will on the longer tides when i can get onto sand but then i am working the next long tides so might have to wait till later . I saw 2 other detectorists , 1 with an E.Trac and the other with a cheapie machine , dont know which machine . My next day out is in the weekend . Working tomorrow .

  10. BTW - Got out to my local beach park this AM to give Goldinox a dip and managed some relatively deep coins again, including nickels. But what was amazing is the small stuff I was digging out of the wet sand. Wet sand and surf recovery is just plain exhausting and to make matters more fun, the tide was coming in. So after 3 hours, I managed just a little over a couple dollars worth of change and this tiny gold turtle pendant for the world's best and toughest mom and I'm beat. Nuke, I have no idea how you manage your 14 hour ironman beach detecting sessions. You have every right to be demanding of your equipment! Tip o the hat to your determination and skill. Happy Hunting to all this weekend!

  11. My Sennheiser CX 6.00BT wireless APTX Low Latency in ear headset (Ear Buds) arrived yesterday morning and I paired them with my Equinox 800, I went down to my garden test bed and I took out my hearing aids and put in the ear buds and I was amazed at how clear and loud the signals were these are going to be ideal for me during the summer months, but when the Autumn weather returns I will be back with the Avantree Audition Pro Aptx Low Latencey wireless headphones. .

  13. Got out for about two hours (before the heat got to us) this morning and went to a dirt lot that we've hammered pretty good in the past. Used to be three homes there built in the thirties. Used Park 1 that I made a few adjustments to prior to going out. Changed the tone breaks to my liking and also the Tone pitches for each "bin". When they tore the homes down, they moved the dirt quite a bit so clad can be found at the same depth as silver. Managed to pull out a couple of weaties and a 42 Merc. along with about 12 clad coins. My buddy using his 800 for the first time also pulled a wheatie and a 43 Merc. Gotta say we were both impressed with the 800's performance for being the first time we've taken them out. Heading to Nevada week after next to hunt some ghost towns and hoping the weather is much cooler up there.

  14. Good finds, especially the 1869 IH! That's a low mintage date worth a decent premium (depending upon condition, of course). PCGS has retail of $90 in G-4. (Retail price for professionally graded coin, not what someone will pay you. See Ebay for better middling value. Yours might beat G-4, I hope.)

  15. Well today was beach hunt #7 with the Equinox. There wasn’t a lot of detecting room, with the way the tide was today. Also, a lot of people walking and laying out on the beach. It’s getting crowded out there. I was hoping to keep the streak alive today and I didn’t have to wait very long. First good target was the pink stone 14 K Gold ring. I almost didn’t believe it. That made the rest of the hunt less stressful and more enjoyable, as the gold streak would continue. But I didn’t expect to get too much more, but the finds kept coming. All the time I just kept shaking my head, I can’t believe what Minelab has done!!! 4 gold rings, some silver and a small amount of clad. The broken class ring was found in 2 separate holes about 60 ft apart. The breaking points match up perfectly…they were part of the same ring. The tiny targets were out in full force, as well as the pull tabs too. A small price to pay for the good finds that can come with it. Probably the smallest chain this machine can pick up. Had a hard time locating it once it was out of the hole. I was glad to get out today… a picture-perfect weather day!

  16. I had intended to go to the beach today...easy and relaxing digging is just so irresistible. Last night I had readied the Equinox 800, CTX and beach scoop in my shop in preparation. During the night as I slept voices kept telling me "Screw the stupid beach and take the Equinox to the foot hills and try it out in some real dirt" Gold nuggets and relics were calling for some reason. I didn't expect to find much...mostly lead bullets etc.... maybe a Chinese coin if I was lucky. And to tell the truth I was not in the mood to dig bird shot today so I hunted mostly in field 2 and Park 2 I put the 800 in gold mode 2 for maybe 5 minutes then switched back. First came the Chinese coin...nice to get one intact...I'd dug one in pieces a few minutes earlier. Then I decided to hunt some tailing piles and I was elated to get the powder flask...an hour or so later I was hunting near a creek so I could retrieve an ax head I had dug last year and left it on a fallen tree. A solid 12 on the equinox...at first I thought I had a small gold coin due to the serrated edge... But hey i'll take a gold ring any day. This sucker is old...the Chinese mined this place and I have yet to find any silver coins here. There are gold nuggets few and far between plus the place is riddled with lead shot of all shapes and sizes. Grass was tall which made for challenging hunting. The ring came from the other side of the creek near the tree in the middle. Good luck and HH! Park 2, Auto GB, Sens 22, reactivity 6, iron bias 0 I had to auto GB often due to soil. Pic with the Sierra is a toast to the old timer before I covered the hole strick

  17. I sold a Gold Bug 2 and bought an Equinox 800 to add to my arsenal. It finally arrived but still to early to head out. I want to try it on some trashy tailings piles where I have found nuggets in the past. Just got to get rid of the snow!

  19. I haven`t been putting up any finds lately because I`ve been in a bit of a drought but I like posting pictures of gold so here is a couple of quartz specis I found about 200 yards and 4 years apart out at Moliagul. The one on the right total weight 980 grams with about ½ gram of gold and the other 250 grams with about 1 gram gold. Dave

  22. Well Steve I have read all of your links to the gold prospecting of yours in Alaska and I am truly fascinated by your expeditions pulling out the gold nuggets and I was so intrigued I was imagining I was there alongside you. Your experience in this gold prospecting is very reminiscent to my hoard hunting and ancient artifact hunting here in the UK. Here below is one of my ancient finds which is published in this months Searcher Magazine it is an Iron Age Harness Fitting and this object gives me the same buzz as what you get with your gold nugget finds, this find is the only one of this type ever recorded.

Purchased from: Fort Bedford Metal Detectors 190 Oak Shade Road Alum Bank, PA 15521 Phone - 814-215-1732 email - sales@fortbedfordmetaldetectors.com Keith Leppert Keith wanted me to be sure to mention they only got a few on this order, They are trickling in like the detectors. He would love to fill everyone's order but unfortunately only got a small amount.... other dealers "may" have some so if Keith doesn't have anymore it may pay to check around. Good luck Cliff

  24. I did not think you were serious or poking fun , got up late this morning and was to tired to read all you wrote properly . The queue that Minelab has created is getting longer as it should if they are going to make it work in the detecting World but its Minelab that is at fault because they are taking an age to clear the backlog that was there even before the release . As far as i know there has been around 700 to 800 units delivered to the UK , dont know if thats including 600's or not but have heard that 1 or 2 shops have the 600's on the shelf ?? I dont know what Minelab's production rate is on the machine per week but they certainly aren't coming here , have heard that another delivery to Crawfords dealer is due though . The other main dealer that get theirs direct must be soon too if thats the case. I am not in a hurry for my second unit but i would like to get it out of the way . I only cancelled my second when i got my first because of money mostly and would have had both at the same time . One thing is for certain whether it be good bad or ugly i wont be in the queue for any other machine in future. I will wait till its on the shelf so i can see it before buying it and see other peoples thoughts on the forums first . I am never easy to please and no machine is perfect everywhere , but then they dont have too . They only have to be good somewhere .

  27. Yes, a detector that simply told ferrous from non-ferrous cleanly and with no fuss would be great. Every VLF I have ever used gets fooled by numerous ferrous objects. Any detector really aggressive at rejecting ferrous also misidentifies and accidently rejects non-ferrous. It always seemed to me that ferrous items having the additional magnetic properties would be better identified and rejected, but that is still an area of difficulty for most any detector. I really don't mind digging non-ferrous junk but it is very annoying to get a good non-ferrous signal and have it turn out to be a rusted steel washer or piece of rusted flat flaky steel.

  32. Why would that be? Because they can't keep up with worldwide demand? Yeah, this is an unmitigated disaster. Lol. Whites didn't even recall the MX sport en masse even after it started leaking water through the control housing... I have not heard of any issues, including the wonky shaft cam locks, that even come close to warranting an all user warning email, much less a recall. You are seriously questioning why ML hasnt filled all backorders? Perhaps because people like you keep ordering 2 or 3 while at the same time complaining about their performance, lol. Just poking a bit o' fun Nukie. BTW, plenty of 600's sitting on dealers' shelves in the States I think it is hilarious that ML continues to get thrashed by end users simply because they can't keep up with historically unprecedented demand for a new Metal Detector model. The issue is snowballing too as skeptical users buy into the initial positive reports by the early adopters to jump on the bandwagon, while many other folks indeed order their second Equinox (raises hand). BTW, have you given Sinclair's Single freq beach anomaly a go yet? If I can get it to happen, I am going to see if it saves in the User Profile slot, too. Weird. Welp, off to the beach...

  34. Hi Ammie… well you didn’t find a plate or button, but still... you did find some nice relics, even I can recognize those three-ringers, definitely keepers. The copper percussion cap is a real nice find too. Can’t help you with identification, hopefully someone else will do so. I think your readers will agree that we admire your enthusiasm and willingness to get into the field and give it the old college try. I think you've done very well. Thanks for the excellent photos, and for this latest update to your detecting adventures. WTG Jim.

  35. My ProFind 35 went to MineLab service on Monday due to some aberrant activity, but they are FAST. I'll have the repaired unit back (Might be a new one) on Monday (FAST!). Minelab service in the U.S. is simply awesome! Tracy in their Service call center is great and always friendly and helpful. I used to think Garrett was top-line, but Minelab has stepped up and clearly is the frontrunner now!

  36. Not sure. I did watch the episodes where they were hunting in Sweden. Metal detectors are strictly not allowed to use there. No explanation was given why some men acting like crazy maniacs are allowed to. Typical "entertainment" junk. The more the main characters act like stupid monkeys, the more entertainment supposedly.

  37. This find was safe from the desert, found in a lot that used to have an old house. Also found this 1921 license in same lot 1" down, got some clad, yet no wheat or silver. Not sure if I'm not hearing anything past 4" in all the junk (lot had 4 houses from the 30's at one point) I haven't tried my Explorer there yet to compare.

  38. I don’t know Mitchel, I never found a nugget in a tailing pile by chance. Every one took a plan and hard work. Does the Equinox “have an advantage”? How, and compared to what? Compared to my GPZ 7000 with 19” coil the Equinox is far lighter, far less expensive, and has much better discrimination. Yet the GPZ 7000 with 19” coil will punch far deeper. I am going hunting tailing piles tomorrow, which would I use? That depends on many factors, and at the end of the day is purely a judgement call. Lots of riddles, not many answers. Maybe when you find out more about the specimen that is the subject of this thread it will provide some insight.

  39. If I am coinshooting only, I prefer 5 and 10kHz, because that solves my problems with 2€ coins ringing at the same ID as pulltabs and bottletops get such high IDs, you can distinguish them more easily. You do loose some depth, especially on small items - they may disappear completely. Believe it or not - I got the nox running beach1 and single frequency 5kHz once I guess it was just another software glitch.. been switching around between userprofile park1 5kHz based and beach1 a lot.. and wondered, why all of the sudden the 2€ coin was ringing at 21 in beach1 Imho there are also some other glitches going on with f.e. the tonebreak settings and userprofile switching other than the ones being known.

  45. Posting an update - took my detector to a remote beach to test on Sunday and no chatter issues, so looks like my back yard has really bad interference. I was able to solve the issue with the advice in this thread - lowered the sensitivity to 17 and had no issues. I think the reason i thought it was working previously is i mistook threshold for volume when i unboxed it and was running at a lower setting so didnt notice the noise (rookie mistake). This video is pretty good at describing the issue - glad i’m not the only one who thought i’d have to return my unit:

  46. Me too - my comment was tongue in cheek. If somebody found a 15 ounce specimen containing five ounces of gold with an Equinox 800 I would not expect anything larger to be found with one anytime soon. Why? Not many in the field yet, and of those a miniscule number are being used to hunt gold nuggets. I am honestly surprised to hear about a specimen / gold nugget found with the Equinox this large and this soon.

  49. I have the Sennheiser ear buds. I can not speak to how they will function with hearing aids or if they will be loud enough to overcome your hearing loss. What I can say is they last at least 6 hours, fit very well, seal out other noise and are almost unnoticeable after you have them in for a half hour or so. As a bonus I find there sound quality on par with better or more expensive wired ear buds. Charging takes about an hour most of the time. They also talk to you, power on/off, connected, one hour charge remaining or something like that. One thing I have noticed is when using them with a tablet and change from music to a video the sound is muted, figured out they may think a call is coming in and by pressing the middle button the sound returns. I use them most every day and on weekends metal detecting. Great replacement for wired headphones. Connecting is easy and has never given me a problem. I do not notice any delay. I hope they work for you. FWest
