Welcome aboard SLD  .

You've picked a fine ship in this ocean of dribble called the  internet.

I'm voting with any of the above suggestions. by Steve and the crew.

You'll be ready to go right out of the gate with a factory preset.

Soooo , do you have a budget ?  That could narrow it down if you do.

stuck up against a fence, windblown 🙂  pure luck!  but if they weren't detecting it wouldn't have been found.

Using advanced detectors need not be complicated at all. The presets exist for a reason - use them and I don't see why a beginner can't get going, then expand into learning the controls later if they want. Better that than buying a simple detector, then selling it later to upgrade. Surely most people can do this:

Steve, I am a relative Newbie at this detecting thing and have really only used a Tracker IV with my grandfather.

Since he is gone and left me all his things I can honestly say that using the factory presets have been very good to me. Yes I do dig most targets still, but find that the presets have helped me in so many ways and in every type of ground.

I believe in the 800 and know when I do learn more about the unit I will have more fun with it.
