  1. Past hour
  2. It is a lot smaller than I was expecting. NF 12” Evo Special - Fine Gold. Frequency - tiny and Front End Gain about 3/4 of the way around (these are the 2 dials added by the mods) Detector Gain - 1 (right down) Stabiliser - 10. Using a Rooster Booster and a low latency Bluetooth wireless set up. Vol limit - 5. GB type - general. Motion Medium. Audio - Normal. Signal - 20. Target Vol - 1. Response - Normal. Threshold set just at a low hum. The threshold on these is very different to the GPZ. When it is a bit lower and right on the cusp of being heard or not, it sort of ‘twangs’ in and out of being heard. I guess being a dial instead of a digital arrangement like the GPZ is the difference??
  3. Yes, well Minelab did say they would make a 10" for the 7000. They then ended up saying it couldn't be done. They lied. The Russian made X coils sorted that out. They even made an 8" for the 7000. So yes, Minelab lied to make people buy more detectors. That is their business model. D4G
  4. Today
  5. My current charge cable is doing the same thing....will try another tomorrow.
  6. It came with the only two coils most would ever want for it, a 5" round and a 10x5". To make aftermarket coils for something it has to make economic sense for the manufacturer, will they sell enough coils to make it worth it or would they be better off putting that effort into making coils for another detector whereby they'd sell far more coils. I early on asked Nel if they would make coils for it, they had no interest at all in doing so, and their business model means they already have the housings, it's just wiring them right with the right plug to suit the detector but... there is a problem! There is another big reason aftermarket manufacturers would shy away from making coils for it, like all things Minelab, it has chipped coils which stop it, the chips often provide other benefits too in relation to the detectors performance not just preventing aftermarket coils, but they do prevent aftermarket coils, unless the manufacturer like Coiltek teams up with Minelab with licensing, but again, is it viable, would they sell enough to make it worth it? I personally don't think so. An X-ray from our ever so wonderful X-ray man @strick Right next to that nice twisted shielded cable is ...... a chip!
  7. Update on the Modded 5000. 15" Nugget finder evo, biggest was .3 total was .89. First real day in the field on pounded ground by 6 and 5000. Nothing shallower than 5-6". Its impressive to say the least.
  8. I should look at getting some form of handle like that for my Deus 1 HF coils, I have the control pod and the headphone thingy with screen on it, excuse my ignorance I never use it to know what it's called. I could turn my Deus 1 into a viable pinpointer opition, I even have a little leather pouch to put my control pod into so I could use that on my belt with the Deus 1 9x5" HF coil as the pinpointer, thanks Chase, hadn't crossed my mind and it would be a smaller rig than the Mini monster, it would also give my Deus some time in the field rather than being a cupboard detector. The good or bad thing depending is the Deus 1 isn't sensitive to hands like the other higher frequency detectors are so that's useful in a pinpointer role too. Now to find a handle or mini shaft handle type option. I guess I could buy a Chinese clone Deus 1 shaft cheap and chop it up to make a mini one.
  9. 925 ding ding ding we have a winner on beach #1 🥸
  10. Hi Doc, I for one did not realize the extent of physical difficulties you labor under - reading the list of your injuries made me admire you anew for your quest to find ways to make what can be a fairly debilitating hobby, better for all of us. Thanks.
  11. Hi yep all fully charged and no flashing green light. I used 2A/5v charger which has been used for my nox with no issues ! I have fully charged it again and will note down accurately how long I use it for. It may be that I have under estimated how long I have used it, so we will see. I will let you know the results. Thx for info
  12. Take this for what it's worth, which may not be much. I have used ATHC from the get go. That's getting close to a year and a half. ATHC, 5 tones, slightly lower ferrous limits, 4-5 recovery, 20-24 sensitivity depending on surface trash. I run with the horseshoe button always on. I have to check a lot of targets, but I don't dig that many that aren't pretty solid. I may be missing some stuff, but if I am not seeing pretty much the same thing both ways I don't dig. Or it really has to be absolutely perfect one way and somewhat marginal the other. Almost every time I turn on a suspect target I get the kind of info that makes me walk away. Absolutely zero so far that I had low confidence in have turned out to be good. So I got a buddy who until recently didn't have a Manticore. So he and I were covering a lot of the same ground. He was using a different detector with a 9" coil. He knows how to use too. On a site that has been continually occupied for at least 150 years and has shredded beer cans everywhere because it's right up against a gravel road I pretty much destroyed him in finding coins and buttons. I dug so much nonferrous junk because you just couldn't risk not digging it. He also dug just as much modern junk and can slaw as I did. I sure didn't dig much iron though. It's a large farm field so stuff could be shallow or deep. Granted most of the good targets I found were no deeper than 4". The Manticore running the 11" coil seemed to trump the other detector running the 9". I don't see how it could have been just pure luck. The number of coins and buttons was just to lopsided for it to have been luck. The place of highest concentration was about a 200ft. square section. We hunted for several weekends and in the main area I know we had to have overlapped each other a lot. He bought a Manticore during the sale and has been dealing with some frustration digging iron. I might get flamed, but I think there are a lot of us that just can't walk away from iffy beeps that are extremely likely to just be iron. I am coming to believe the best you can hope for on the 2d screen is when iron just pulls a close non-ferrous's I.D. down some or when two targets are just in the right position to see two close side by side targets on the screen with one being alone very near the center line. Everything else is going to be a roll of the dice. I don't feel particularly lucky enough to dig very many of those.
  13. Just checked the charger I use and it is 3A/5V. I don't use the USB 2A chargers anymore.
  14. That’s a good question. I felt the same way about the 7000 not having small coils, all about making you have to buy multiple detectors I would think.
  15. I do know for a fact that my battery readout was definitely not as low as yours after 4 hours. Are you getting the full green battery status after fully charging. Check your USB-A specifications to see what sort of power delivery there is. If it's too low then the battery won't get a full charge but the battery status may show it as being "full". The green LED charge light (not the screen battery icon) should hold steady after a full charge. One of my USB-A chargers wouldn't achieve this and showed the blinking green LED constantly.....I think it was delivering too low a charge to fully top off the battery.
  16. I agree that a smaller coil would be best. The D1 works well in this capacity with the 9x5" coil. Again, for scanning sidewalls of larger pits for coin and button sized targets while discriminating out nails using the coil standalone is much easier than using the entire detector even with the 9" and 9x5" coils. IMO XP missed a huge opportunity with the wireless MI6 pinpointer by not enabling it to have discriminating and target ID features like a Sunray Probe.
  17. I've yet to deplete the battery completely as I recharge after every hunt. I use the M15 and after 5 hours, the battery level appears to have only lost one segment. I'm not sure what that equates to as a percentage. I'm running the light at maximum as that is what I need in full sunshine. I'm confident of getting close to the 10 hour mark based on my observations. I might even go a full hunt and not recharge for the next one but I will bring the powerbank with me in case I run out of juice on the second hunt.
  18. I gave up on a 900 update. It sits boxed up and listed for sale on another forum. The update on the Manticore had mixed reviews depending on your location. I'd read of people who had some great finds with the 900 but this was not my experience here in SW. Pa. in the year or so I used it. If memory serves me correct I think about 70+ hunts. So in light of the first Manticore update I wouldn't hold my breath. On the other hand I have every confidence in the Legend and have compared them on a couple different sites and am quite satisfied it can hold its own with the best of them. IMO.
  19. That's a great time out! I use to hunt OC Md in the off season, gold is rare. I did the best once the water warmed, in July until mid to late Sept. the other months unless we had a hurricane hunting was no more than exercise.
  20. Same here, I've not been out much the last two years and friends of mine tell me how bad the conditions are kind of make me feel like I'm not missing anything. But your right, love the sight of it in my sifter and that is hard to give up. For me I walked into the right area out of the blue and realized this is going to be good after finding a few silver coins. I'm sure most would have done as well. Never cut yourself short, location is most of mission and I've been very Blessed 2015 to 2020 in having some great ones..
  21. Hi question to users please, how long is your battery lasting ? The manual indicates up to 10 hours. So my settings were screen light on auto, no vibration or torch enabled, no use of the high conductor search mode. what should I expect ? From what I am seeing the battery seems to deplete quite quickly when using the 12x15 coil after about 4 hrs use, the green battery light has about a quarter showing well below half, I realise that the green battery indicator does not give accurate data but I wouldn't bet on there being 4 hrs battery life remaing. Have just jumped off the fence and bought this machine after using my nox 800 for the last 5 years, was worried I made a bad decission but after some judicious testing on my 4 year old test garden with iron contamination in places I am very happy with my choice the performance upgrade is noticeable and it is fun to use, great machine.🙂
  22. I love the M8. It's my favorite coil to use on the Manticore. And I have found a number of silvers and a few gold nuggets with it so far. I did not realize the M9 is even lighter. I did realize it has significantly more surface area (coverage and depth) than the M8. But I like the M8 so much, I had decided to pass on the M9. But more coverage and possible a bit more depth, and even lighter than the M8... I have no will power at all. Ft. Bedford is showing them in stock. So... Yeah, I have no will power. It's ordered... I don't see it replacing the M8 for nugget hunting. But, I'm curious. Guess I'll find out. - Dave
  23. That M8 sure seems a lot lighter than the 11". It sure seems lighter than just 3.5 oz.. I like it and use it when I can. I have not found a silver with it yet, but also have not used it a lot yet either.
  24. Please forgive me if this question has already been asked and answered. I tried looking it up but couldn't find anything. Why has there not been any aftermarket coils made for the GM1000? I would have thought at least Coiltek would have made something for it considering they make the NOX coils. I know the little 5" coil that comes with the machine is super sensitive and finds small gold, but the Coiltek coils have always outperformed the stock coils on most machines in my opinion. 🤔
