  1. It was on the warm side so we cut our day short and the nuggets were elusive, the only detecting I managed to get in was making my son dig half a dozen trash targets I was sure were gold and showing my grandson how to use the detector. the heat didn’t faze him a bit he was all about the gold... planting that nugget I think we might have started him on a long path of addiction with no cure in sight, lol. the video is uploading to YouTube it is going kind of slow but in the video there is one excited 6 year old, I’ll post the link when it is done.

  2. Memorial Day, Dad was Army Air Corp 40-45, Mom was in the first group of WAVE's 41-45. I made 6 years Army National Guard 65-71. Brother Tony, #2, finished med school and went to Germany (Army) to take care of the wounded flown in from 'Nam. Brother #3, Jim, USMC 66-70, was in the last convoy out of Khe San. He made three+ tours. My old mining partners were marines. My life has always seemed to revolve around those that served. The old flag is the "new" 50-star my Mom bought to celebrate the '61 Kansas centennial. The booney hat was my brother Jim's. I can't find the 'Eagle, Ball, The Anchor' emblem. There's lotsa emotion and pride on Memorial Day. Too many stories to tell. No gold today Gerry, just golden memories. Semper Fi to my friends, and God Bless our troops.

  4. Hello All, Well it's been a bit since I had the 12" NF Z Searchcoil on my GPZ 7000, but it managed to show the same results once again. It was about 3 months ago when I originally was field testing the new NF 12" Z Search, before it's release here in the US. I managed to take it back over a few patches I hammered hard with the stock 14x13 coil, but still was able to find about a dozen for so smaller gold nuggets that I missed. The hyper-sensitivity this new coils gives, plus the lightweight, make detecting with the GPZ 7000 much easier and pleasant. I managed to just get in the first batch of new NF coil for the GPZ and even got a few that I didn't expect. Most of them were pre-sold and spoken for, but I still have 1-2 left I think. I went out for my second, first day, meaning I only got one day on the first coil then a customer/good friend just had to have it. I ended up hunting all day, sun up to down down and scored the nuggets below. I'm super impressed with this coil, so if you own a Minelab GPZ 7000, this is something to consider if you're looking for a lighter coil and something that is more sensitive to smaller/specimens vs. the stock coil. Just a FYI, the original coil I sold has scored well over 100 nuggets from what I'm told and some of the recent coils that just hit customers hands (some pictures now on this forum) have scored gold. Congrats on all the new NF Z Searchoil owners and new ones to come! Rob https://www.robsdetectors.com/nugget-finder-12-z-searchcoil-for-gpz-7000/

  6. Thought I'd be wrapping up the RV park today, we decided to stay one more day. Been digging lots of stuff here, it's either been hit or there just isn't any silver. With all the techniques I've tried you'd think I'd find one silver coin. Still could be me... 🤔 But I have found silver (reales, US coins) so It's hard to believe it. The take today was just fun: 70s memorials, a 1916 wheat, an 1892 IHP. Box key lock plate, live .40 S&W hollowpoint, .380 FMJ. The snap is there to keep the bullets from rolling into my favorite find today: This 1920s brass advertising medallion for an obscure soda brand. Looks like it had a loop on top for keys or something. Info here: http://www.tazewell-orange.com/wascott.html Fun thing to find. Didn't see one in any collection so I may offer it up. Later I saw some people playing volleyball in a sand court. 😈 Hit that this evening, only got halfway through before the sun went down and my pinpointer died. Well there's one more day. There were some "gold" signals but I would be obligated to turn that stuff into the office I think. The gold would have sunk deeper than the modern coins IMHO, and it would be in the hard pan under the sand unless lost recently. I did get the '78 quarter there. Going to tell the maintenance guy to hit it when he gets his metal detector. 😀 He's hooked! It was a great day.

  7. Memorial Day! Coming from a long history of Family Military Service, I learned early that it’s for the Veterans that never returned Home. My Grandpa, corrected me at a young age...”It’s not Happy Memorial Day, but it’s a Good Day”. His words rang true, as I visited many American War Fallen Cemeteries in European Countries during my tours of duty. Now that I’m a US Air Force Retiree, the old Military saying of “We All Gave, But Some Gave More”, rings loud and clear on this Good Memorial Day. Now, I live in the “Battle Born State” unofficially the “Silver State” or “Sage Brush State”. Well living in the 7th largest land mass State, you have to have a modern Mule to battle the Sage Brush to find the hidden treasures of the Silver State. My Kolpin ATV Gun Racks carry my Detectors and yes, the clean ones next to the roof are brand new. My Buggy is Ruff & Ready! If you see it in your Prospecting adventures, swing by. I may need some company on a hot patch and always have a pointy finger to other nearby locations! Good Memorial Day, LuckyLundy

  12. Thanks Gerry for this fine contest for a Gold Monster 1000 and especially for honoring those who are serving and those who have served for our military. A big shout out to my son, Scott serving on the Pasadena!!!!! It’s been raining constantly since Friday evening so even though my Equinox would have been fine getting wet, I am old enough to know when to give it up and get dried out. I did manage a short hunt on Sunday and came back with a couple of quality rings......sorry, no nuggets or flakes (the gold bearing creeks and rivers in the Denver area are really running fast and heavy so too dangerous). The Equinox got over a really nice .925 silver and Smoky Quartz beauty and a Navajo (Scott Skeeter) 14K gold and .925 silver band. Thanks, Jeff McClendon

  15. Thanks, I'll never get to the level you guys do, but I'm getting better. 😀 I knew the battery was getting low, but the sun was too. Got 9v batteries in my RV. I tried them all, but when I hit the hard pan I stopped because I didn't want to mix it with the sand. I'll ask the maintenance people tomorrow if that's ok. I did pull a broken soda can and a lot of other sharp aluminum out of there. In some places the sand is 6-8" deep, others about 2". I wish it was consistent. I hadn't asked If I could do what I did but they have said yes to everything so far and no one stopped me. They love seeing what I find! It's Currituck Sound. Deepest spot is 13'. It's between the Outer Banks and the island that I'm on. Really nice RV park.

  19. In the strict sense, Memorial Day is for remembering and honoring those who died in military service of the USA. It goes back to right after the USA Civil War. But it is customary to also honor those who have served but haven't given their lives in that pursuit. We also have a holiday on 11 November (Veterans Day) for honoring all who have served in the military. That one unfortantely isn't quite as celebrated. The following photo picked off of the internet emphasizes the distinction: (Gerry, not an entry, just for informational purposes.)

  20. Conditions were pretty weak all this month, went out on several negative wet sand low tide hunts at a few spots. Started out the month with a small piece of 10k that looked like it was part of a gold nugget ring and also some grey crusted silver from an area that had a cut and some erosion.. Next peace of gold was the 10k nugget ear ring and a small silver peace ring found waaaay out in the negative low tide wet sand plateau, no doubt fresh drops, targets were few and far between at that beach. Next gold item was a tarnished 10k ring that looked like it had a pearl at one point since there is a post sticking out in the middle of the setting, also found some more dark crusty silver on that hunt from an area that had heavy black sand and steep wet sand slopes. The final hunt towards the end of May was a bit on the weak side, not many targets despite the high/low negative tides caused by the mega full moon. Pulled out a small 10k crucifix and was sure that was gonna be the last gold for the month, but as I was zig-zagging the wet sand on my way out I hit a screamer of a signal at the upper slope area, one scoop down, dump the sand and saw the outline of a ring, thought is was just silver at first sight but then I picked it up and noticed the weight, then noticed the hallmark.....Booyah! 18k/Plat Fred Goldman combo band! I was stoked! Called it quits and went home. Gold total for the month: 10k- 4.1 grams 18k/Plat - 11.5 grams Thanks for looking and GL out there!

  22. My husband's biggest hobby is metal detecting. He also owns a Minelab SDC 2300 and a Garrett AT Pro, which is his favorite. He got obsessed with it ever since finding a few valuable coins with one of his buddies under our https://trimthatweed.com/best-gravel-to-walk-on-bare-feet/ garden rocks. Those coins were the main reason behind this detecting passion, and he has found many crazy things over time. His collection is full of everything: from pull tabs, toys, marbles, hearing aids to silver and gold jewelry(even a vintage channel bracelet, which probably cost more than his detectors, haha).

  23. Ever use a digging mat for the fussy stuff? I made one out of a piece of rubber roofing, cut it into a 12"x12" square, rounded the corners and put a finger hole in one corner so I can carry it easier. Dirt slides right back to the hole nice and it doesn't blow around in the wind. It always lays out flat even after being rolled up.

  27. Hey Gold Catcher, Ya, I gotten a lot of feedback so far, everyone is super impressed by then. I love the fact it's even more sensitive, but the biggest factor is the weight overall of the GPZ 7000, so the lighter coil makes it easy hunting without a bungee all day for me. Here are a few more pictures of the first coil I got, notice the logo is slightly a bit different than the new one.

  29. "That is expensive. Hoping to just find a writing diagram from someone" It seems you're trying to make one of these devices, yet have no knowledge or skills to do so ? There's already been enough tech info given on here for you to come up with a homebrew solution, even if it is a bit of a 'bodge/kluge/improvised' solution. So to help us out here, what know-how etc do you have? Can you solder ? Can you obtain electronics parts? Do you understand electrical wiring diagrams ? Do you have mechanical engineering skills like sawing/filing/drilling? Are you actually trying to make a faithful close equivalent to the original Fisher part, or do you just want to get the machine working with very minimal financial outlay?

  30. Been considering that. I'm pretty good at plugging, they're telling me that it is like I haven't been here. They can't find my holes. 😀 I keep asking them and they keep saying it's ok. Diggers paradise. I've been considering using a towel or a Frisbee or a gold pan. Might just do that, here especially I have to dig out some dust if the target is deep. Luckily it rained about 3-4" the day before yesterday, so all my original original holes are gone. 🤗

I was just thinking post a quick soldering 101 when I posted ....my life doing the shows was usually "emergency surgery" keep the show on time without access to parts , usually in the dead of night !!! LOL I'll change or delete the post if anybody thinks I should. Personally , I carry a portable battery for extended use beyond the built in batt capacity.

  33. Hey Guys, Thanks for the comments. Phrunt - Yep, I had the first version for the test coil and now I have the newer logo version. AfreakofNature - I never heard of any price before hand, but figured they were going to be around $1,000 or so basing it off of what the stock replacement coil costs and the 19" coil at $1500.

  34. Wow $1,100. I thought they were suppose to come in at $900 but Covid probably changed that.

  35. Keep in mind if the coil is submerged you need to run the wire up so it transmits to the control box. If the Box is submerged you need to get wired headphones as wireless does not transmit through water. End of the day if you plan on dunking a machine and doing some water hunting you can just get a water proof detector with waterproof headphones. I use my Orx to scout out areas, pick through parks and woods hunting. I did putter around the beach with it on the wet and dry sand but didn't submerge and kept the coil dry. It did run nice but honestly I have other machines that are better suited for the beach and not concerned about toasting something or corroding contacts with them.

  36. The main difference I found between it and the standard GPZ coil was the weight, noticeably lighter. I think with coils the standard rules apply for most coils though with the same winding type, the smaller the coil the more sensitive to small gold and that's what I've been finding. It's a good thing for people that find the standard coil heavy, and now with the lightweight 6000 out anything to lighten up the 7000 a bit sure doesn't hurt and the NF coil feels a fair bit lighter 🙂 I've only used it a couple of times prospecting, other than that just some experimenting and comparing.

  41. I find them on the beaches fairly often, but they are not very old! If they aren't corroded, I leave them at the beach entry for other kids, or give them away to those "future treasure hunters" who inevitably follow me at the beach! They will run back to show a parent, and it gives me enough time to escape, and refocus on my detecting!😂👍👍

  42. My metal detector picture today includes a flag for a number of reasons. I'm proud of my country and my family. My mother was a Navy nurse in WWII and she met my dad who was a Navy pilot after the Battle of Midway. She had a brother who was shot down on Jolo Island in the Philippines near the end of the war. My step-dad was a Navy Seabee who landed on D-day and also saw action in the Pacific. My Aunt was in the Army in Algiers. My brother was a navigator for a Navy vessel in the 70s. Some of my uncle's air training as a radar operator in his P-61 Black Widow was in California and Arizona at temporary bases. I have some letters of his he wrote to my mom and there is a good chance that some of the areas where I find gold and WWII 35 and 50 cal shells were from his planes. I look up and wonder if he had looked down where I'm searching. Thank you Gerry for reminding me that I need to honor their service and legacy more often. Mitchel

  44. The new nf coil only found a skunk today and the only gold found by my son was the tiny nuggy I planted for him to find with his new 2300 so he’d begin to get an idea what to listen for. It was planted alongside the edge of a small bush, I had him fire up his detector and started him swinging on another bush nearby. When he made it to the right bush as expected a little hi lo sounded out and he missed it, I had him go back and he ran the coil over it a couple times and then asked what’s that?, lol. So now he knows, he dug tiny trash no doubt if he’s lucky enough tomorrow when we take the grandson out he’ll find one then? the grandson (6) wants to go find treasure so I’ve got a flat shiny just under a gram we’ll hide for him to find, I think he can probably swing the Deus OK, video to follow.

  45. Thankfully as an Australian I am ineligible as the rules were too long and complamicated for this black duck. Also, thankfully, I am able to live my GPX 6000 ‘dream’ and not just be waiting for the container ships to unload. That’s hard for you guys in the States. Got out for about 1.5 hours this arvo before dark. About a dozen lead shot, some large rusty bolt heads and nails and a little bit of the right colour. I assume Memorial Day is very similar to our ANZAC Day and is a time for thanks and reflection of those that have served their country to keep us safe and free. In that context it’s not appropriate to say ‘Happy’ Memorial Day but I do hope you all have a good weekend, get to spend some time with your loved ones and enjoy the solitude or comradery that prospecting brings you 🤗 Cheers, NE.
