Indians And Buffalos

Recommended Posts

Fairly interesting hunt today, it got up to 55 with no wind. Thought I'd go to the old steamboat landing, it was bush hogged about 4 weeks ago.20220209_095454.thumb.jpg.d6570bd5a565e9d7d9bb97593645cfb6.jpg

This is a nice flat piece of land overlooking a river, I've never dug any silver here (Chase did), but clad and old pennies are pretty plentiful. I've also dug some late 1600s to mid 1700s buckles here. It's about 4 acres, all waterfront.20220209_095501.thumb.jpg.3c6b3374895513d2ceb7995da6611c7f.jpg

Most of the year this little field is covered with poison ivy, but when they clear it, not so much. In the bottom of the photo the daffodils are sprouting, there are lots of them here. There was a building or two and a large dock or two for the steamships.

Anyone who has been reading my posts knows this place has been hit hard, not just by me but many others. One thing for sure with a place like this, when it's gone, it's gone.

Got out early and stayed all day. Got lots of trash, this place is loaded with iron and other metals as well as lots of shotgun shells and for some reason every time I dig here I find harmonica and organ reeds. 20220209_174847.thumb.jpg.e68ad1ed05416046aae883971f97b1df.jpg

Got a really nice cast aluminum horse shoe, it was laying on the ground. I know no horses have been here recently so it must have been thrown into a tree.20220209_180027.thumb.jpg.9fe69ca76ede8a25eb773d25ba4b2a8a.jpg

Also dug this small compact, too bad it was trashed.20220209_175226.thumb.jpg.ce442c666924a3065504f93a432e479c.jpg20220209_175241.thumb.jpg.6adf8e6289eb3a95e5aea85fd5750aa0.jpg

at first I thought it was a watch. There was nothing inside.

Here are the finds of the day, and hence the name of this post:20220209_184946.thumb.jpg.c9c869601873eacb1e0cc07ceb03daa2.jpg

Got 2 IHPs, an 1882 and an 1894. Some sort of small copper disc, an aluminum coat button that was painted a nasty shade of green. Finally, a 1934 and a no date buffalo nickel that I dug in the last half hour. So glad to be outside again!

Great places you have to have to hunt. Nice finds. Always good to get IH's and Buffalo's. I haven't seen an aluminum horseshoe. Nice.

Thanks Rick!

I know it isn't much, but right now I'll post just about anything... 🤣 Not much going on lately. Like the Hoover Boys say, if you dig an IHP it's an episode. 😁

Today was unusual in that I was able to run the Equinox 600 full blast, park 1, 24 sensitivity, recovery speed 2 (half), and I cranked F2 to 3 to avoid iron falsing.

Sure didn't miss the nickels! Ground balance was 3. Some of these finds were 8+inches down. With all the iron I wanted to get "past" it with the 10x5. Seemed to work well. 🙂

I've never heard of aluminum shoes either despite working with horses for a bit. Apparently they are much better on their feet than iron. Looked it up and it's probably fairly modern.

That's where my settings would have been relic hunting. Good you could run sensitivity 24. I like recovery 4 and haven't ran it less. With my Xp Orx I'm going to try Recovery 1 when I take it in the water.

Recovery 2 is middle on the 600, it's max is 3 or about 6 on the 800. 2 is I think 4. For iron balance F2=3 is max, I think it's also equivalent to F2=6 on the 800.

IB at F2=3 means I'm not going to dig much iron, and I don't miss nickels. I'll run it lower at the beach. I did dig a small 10k gold ring on a hill behind my house with high IB, so I know I'm not missing much. 🙂

Looks like a a great day out and an interesting collection of finds. The aluminum horseshoe is facinating. I've never seen one of those and had no idea there was such a thing.

It looks good but the wear might be a problem.

Another great hunt in the books for you with some nice finds again.

Good luck on your next outing and find some silver.

Four oldie day -- I'd be thrilled with that.  Daffodils?  Spring is just around the corner!  👍
