  1. What a beautiful twinned crystalline nugget! I am still hoping to find a chevron nugget near Rye Patch, Nevada here is the US.
  2. RockingCM, good luck! Let us know how you do. I really like your DP coin picture. Nice Carlos III. Did you find it? Is it one real or more?
  3. Nice finds. I am not an expert, but I looked up your Chinese coin. I believe it is: Kangxi Emperor (also known as Shengzu - 1662-1722) Kangxi Emperor The Kangxi emperor, personal name Xuanye, was the third Emperor of the Qing dynasty, and the second Qing emperor to rule over China proper. The Kangxi emperor's reign of 61 years makes him the longest-reigning emperor in Chinese history and one of the longest-reigning rulers in the world.Wikipedia
  4. With my 7000 I often bring my GB2 along as a companion machine. The GB2 is a stable detector and clearly id’s strong ferrous signals. All weak and iffy signals I dig.
  5. I have a pair of MineLab yellow WP headphones for my SDC 2300. They are terrible. The volume is way too low. Very disappointing.
  6. Gold Catcher, I agree. The only time I definitely chose the SDC is hiking down the steep slopes to the Yuba and American Rivers. The SDC fits nicely in my pack leaving both hands free. I hope to see you in November in Gold Basin.
  7. Wonderful update Peg. I always enjoy your summer round-up postings. Beautiful area. Lila is a great companion, and the gold is always fun and rewarding. Best wishes with your hip.
  8. Rob, when you get this pocket cleaned out I would enjoy seeing a video clip or photo of all the nuggets. What an amazing pocket!
  9. Mine lab should give us some performance data on nuggets in different soils. This marketing stuff is getting to be an embarrassment to MineLab. Have you signed up again this week to win a tee shirt?
  10. After I get my target out of the hole I pinpoint it with my coil. I always feel good when I get the target in my first scoop. I use this game to improve my pinpointing and recovery skills. The goal is to dig more targets and find more nuggets. Swing slowly, recover efficiently.
  11. A fantastic trip Lunk. This is an amazing feat on a strewn field where the Meteorite Men got nothing.
  12. Lunk, if you set up a trip and would consider additional people please let me know the details. Thank You, Randy
  13. The challenge of building a metal detector is optimizing signal to noise. The signal is usually improved by more power and different frequencies to “light up” the gold. Noise reduction is achieved through building “quiet” electronics so no noise is introduced into the system and managing the background noise. Minelab has been granted a patent for “modeling the ground”. The patent covers all possible mathematical algorithms including several examples given in the patent. This is a clever way of prohibiting competitors from integrating the ground signals into a map of the ground and subtracting out this noise to improve S/N. Minelab will dominate noise reduction through software. Minelab has clearly left the competition in the tailings pile.

  15. Sara gave a wonderful presentation today. Thank you for letting us know about the event.
  16. Lunk, Your knowledge, discipline and patience have yielded success again. Great way to start the year. Happy Golden New Year!
  17. Hi TG, Welcome to the forum. I have sent you a short txt. I metal detect and am a certified (but infrequent) diver. I love history and as a kid I cleaned boat bottoms and did a little wreck diving in Long Island Sound. Randy
  18. GB2. Reasons: My 1st nugget, most nuggets, analog tuning, few false signals and light weight. Still a viable afternoon machine on shallow ground when I am tired from swinging my GPZ and great for searching under bushes.
  19. Thank you Gerry, and I also need to thank you for getting me started. About five years ago I bumped into you at Rye Patch as you were about to start a class. You let me join. You, Lunk, Spencer and the team got me up to speed on how to use my GPZ giving me a great understanding of the settings and how to swing and listen. The detectors response to different types of nuggets was amazing. Each team member gave me different insights that have paid off. At that time the GM 1000 was just coming out, and I ordered one from you. This is the detector that found my nuggets in Salome, AZ. 😃
  20. Lunk, wonderful write up. Congrats on the Nevada patch last spring. That photo of your Mercury dime surrounded by beautiful gold nuggets is worthy of framing. The 19-inch coil is a beast, but you swing it like a precision instrument with remarkable results. Those tiny nuggets are fabulous finds with the “Big Rig”. I just got home from a day detecting north of Tom Wells. No nuggets today. New areas next week. There is a patch out there somewhere waiting for me. keep up the good work!
  21. Merrell's and Keen's have worked well for me. You can get either low-cut or high-cut versions.
  22. The Harquahala Mountains near Salome, Arizona provided a beautiful location for Bill Southern's three-day Patreon outing for those who back his YouTube channel, Nugget Shooter Journals. This was his second Patreon outing of the year. Including Bill and Tammy about a dozen gold hunters attended. The long weekend started on Thursday night with Bill giving an engaging talk at the Gold Fever Radio club just south of Salome on Hwy 60. The next few days most people set up their RV's and campers a short drive from the private claims we had access to. I really enjoyed the group, learned a lot and even found a couple of nuggets with my GM 1000, a 1.7 gm solid nugget and a 1.0 gm specie. Tammy, aka Nugget Shooterette, who has her own YouTube channel also found a nugget and then made a delicious dinner for all of us on Saturday night. Fantastic. Bill and Tammy are fun to be with and very generous with their knowledge of gold and gem prospecting. If you have not seen their channels take a look. Happy Hunting,
  23. I go gold detecting, dry washing, sluicing and panning because I get to go to areas that are beautiful and off the beaten path. I get to do research on gold areas and learn the history. I get to learn about amazing technologies used in detectors. Best of all I get to meet great people and have fun. An occasional nugget is fantastic but just icing on the cake.
