  1. Switch the conductivity from all, to high or low and see if the noise level improves or stays the same. Have you did an air test with the GB off verses on? I know this might sound stupid but is the battery fully charged?
  2. I will honestly say I had a Vaquero for over a year and could actually hear and know pencils eraser ends before digging. I've always thought Tesoro's had one of the best if not the very best audio in the detector industry.
  3. Very unbelievable price indeed. Now the question is performance. Competition is good. With that price point, wow.
  4. How many of these metals were know 2000 years ago? Gold and Silver
  5. Thank you for the reminder. I remember years ago when the Fisher F75 first came out. It was, a have to have detector and to start with I found a lot of very good targets in areas where I had already hunted extensively. What I'm about to say, don't take the wrong way but I started reading all of Tom's posts on how to get the max out of the F75. How you needed to run with sensitivity maxed and discrimination at 0 and the next thing I knew I was trapped into thinking (my fault) I was missing out on finds because I wasn't using these settings. I became extremely dissatisfied and finally sold the detector off. Bought another one to try and the same issues the machine was just to noisy, sent it in for a check up and they replaced the coil but upon return still to much noise trying to run according to Tom's settings. Many times the machine wouldn't quite down even with sensitivity settings of 50-60. Went through several more F75's before realizing his setting were good for where he hunted but in no way acceptable for my medium to high mineralized, red clay of Virginia. And then I had to take into consideration EMI, yet another story all together. It's nice to read about other hunters successes with their machine, using their settings but all thing are not equal from one location to another. I know and realize Tom has much more experience than I but there's more to successful hunting than just a particular setting/settings. Took a long time to realize that.
  6. Not yet, wanting to get a correctly functioning battery pack. That might bring a question to mind. Do you think the sweep speed mods would help depth in any way?
  7. That is amazing. If you're digging 12-15" nickels in the wet salt sand, you're neck and neck with my White's TDI SL. I'll need to remember to slow down on my next beach trip. Hope tomorrow brings more good targets.
  8. Glad to have you here. Post that gold
  9. Very true, I've dug many women's gold rings that rang up from 8 to 13.
  10. Yes, I'm waiting too. Now, whether I can afford a dedicated water PI to use one week out of a year, might be another matter. But would like to see
  11. I believe the SL has a lot of hidden improvements if a person only knew where they were. The increased battery pack voltage was the first major performance improvement that was made in my machine.
  12. If it was real mushy sand, a lot of water mixed in with the sand, example (where my feet would sink quickly) the ring did the same. It didn't move very far from where I dropped it. Almost straight down and I'd imagine it would sink until it hit something hard, example the layer of crushed shells etc. Never stood for long periods of time to see where or how much of the fishing line disappeared. Now on the other hand, if the sand was hard packed it's movement depended on the frequency and speed of the incoming wave action. It was very common for the ring to stay within a 3 foot square for a long period of time. Well as long as I stood there. Now here is the kicker to the issue, if the waves were heavy laden with sand I would lose sight of the ring almost immediately regardless of hard or mushy sand. Hopes this helps. I don't know everything about the subject but it is very interesting to say the least.
  13. I've taken a gold wedding band and tied a length of good fishing line to it and purposely dropped it in the surf just to see what happens. What I've noticed, if my feet sink into the sand the ring will vanish under the surface quickly but if the sand is packed, (my feet don't sink), the ring will stay on the surface and be move around somewhat as the surf moves in and out. I know that sound risky but I use high quality, test line, not junk. It can be an eye opener at times.
  14. Wow, that's a once in a lifetime hunt. Your homework really paid off.
  15. Nice, I've been hoping for a sealed jar of coins. But not yet
