  1. Well maybe God had second thoughts about where the beach should have been. Just a theory but who knows for sure. My second guess would be they removed some homes and added the beach sand.
  2. The first time that I tried to pair the WM08, I did not have the wireless icon on the 800,because I forgot it was off. My headsets would pair every time, I think they are Bluetooth but not sure. I hope this helps.
  3. Looks more like a decorative coat button from the design of it.
  4. I think that you have forgotten that this is the State of Illinois, and politicians wrote this law. We have some of the best pick pockets in office that money can buy. Think of it this way, go to any attorney and have him to handle a case for you and then try to pay him $20 for his services. Here if you find a nickel from the early 1900's of no value, they will determine the current worth of it with inflation, add additional fees for historical value from where it came from, demand to know who lost it, and then with any luck it just might stay under that $100 level. However if they say you can keep it, then they will demand a tax that is no less than 500% more than it's worth. I really wish we could use the pawn shop for a source of getting price of what it is worth, but even they want full retail for most of their junk without a warranty.
  5. Not only did they have them at the farm houses, but also at some of the old churches. I have found several coins under the lines at them, and a few other items as well. Sometimes I look for where an old concrete pad has been for the posts and start there. Then I go towards the old outhouse from the doors at the back of the church. Good luck and happy hunting.
  6. I am unsure of that as each state has their own rules. Here in this county the court has told us they can have the items after 30 days in most cases. But you must place it in the paper for at least 3 weeks for it to be legal. Just remember if someone does claim it, they must pay your finders fee.
  7. Yes you can if you first put them on the railroad tracks and wait for the train go by. They have taken almost $30.00 worth just last month. They were in very bad condition before reshaping them for the scrap yard.
  8. GB, I know that you helped my grandfather with his 800, now I am also learning it so that it won't be left in the corner. Just tossing out some ideas to prompt further discussion. 1) What methods and efforts do you apply to ensure full ground coverage in the cases where that is one of your goals? Every time I go out I take a cooler full of beverages to stay hydrated and begin. I take the first beer out and drink it real fast so I can get going to the area. 2) Is your sweep a straight line path or an arc? I first start out with a straight line, but after about the 3 beer it starts to go to the right for some reason. 3) How long is your sweep? I will start to turn back to the starting point after about the 5th beer just to make it a good day covering a lot of area. 4) How much do you overlap consecutive sweeps in the direction you walk? Well that really depends if I am on my 6th or 7th beer by then. 5) How much do you overlap side-to-side swings when following parallel paths (e.g. when walking two side-by-side swaths in the same direction how much does the left end of one path overlap the right end of the next path or vice-versa)? By this time I really don't care to much about overlapping where I have been, because I am enjoying the detecting so much and a few more beers. 6) Have you ever measured your coverage? I tried to do that but somewhere I lost my 1 foot ruler that I had in my back pocket after getting another beer. How well do detectors with GPS (e.g. Minelab GPZ-7000 and Minelab CTX-3030) monitor ground coverage to this detail? I have not used any such device such as that, but have kept an accurate map of where I laid those empty cans. Have you used other devices to measure ground coverage. E.g. I can imagine a drone with camera could provide useful data. I save my money for more important supplies like beer, who needs a drone. Are there smartphones app that would help quantify coverage? With an 800 you don't want to use a phone near it to cause interference. Besides I can't answer the phone when I'm on my last beer. I hope that you don't get upset on the way I have answered these tough questions, and some day maybe we can meet up and have a beer together. Maybe go on a quick hunt as I have a good cooler that holds plenty of ice cold soda and water.
  9. Here is exactly what the law states: (765 ILCS 1020/28) (from Ch. 50, par. 28) Sec. 28. In all cases where such lost goods, money, bank notes or other choses in action shall not exceed the sum of $100 in value and the owner thereof is unknown, the finder shall advertise the same at the court house, and if the owner does not claim such money, goods, bank notes or other choses in action within 6 months from the time of such advertisement, the ownership of such property shall vest in the finder and the court shall enter an order to that effect. If the value thereof exceeds the sum of $100, the county clerk, within 20 days after receiving the certified copy of the court's order shall cause a notice thereof to be published for 3 weeks successively in some public newspaper printed in this county and if the owner of such goods, money, bank notes, or other choses in action does not claim the same and pay the finder's charges and expenses within one year after the advertisement thereof as aforesaid, the ownership of such property shall vest in the finder and the court shall enter an order to that effect. (Source: P.A. 83-1362.)
  10. When my neighbor finds a ring or a piece of jewelry he goes to the local paper and they will run an ad for 30 days for free. He asks the people who calls to describe the item and where it was lost. So far he has returned at least 6 rings that I know of. The other 50 or so has gone to market. That is what I will do if I ever find something like that.
  11. Glad to have you here, and don't worry none we won't hold it against you for being divorced. Just don't let the ex find out about all that gold you find, because she may want to get part of it. 15. I have never found any of those, but have seen them in grandfathers collection. You can find them on the web all the time, but you are the first person that I know who has found one. Great hunt and don't forget to get back for some more. Good luck and good hunting.

  19. Great finds, and glad to see someone getting something out there. I plan on going out this Saturday and search some of the creeks with the 800. one of these days I am going to find some gold with what I have, and then I can say I have done it with a detector. These are sluicing areas I have pulled some gold out of in the past, and I am trying to narrow my area down just a little. Good luck on your next hunt!
