  1. I like to use a pin pointer to verify if what I detected is gold or trash, I have saved valuable time proving one way or the other what is what. I can usually determine in seconds or a short period of time if what I detected is trash, then move on. I have gotten very good at it. A pin pointer can be a very valuable tool along with my detector. We all have our own way of looking for gold, my way may not be the best for anyone else. Good luck to everyone.
  2. Like jasong mentioned, mine will false almost every time I use it. I have to turn it to less sensitive or off then on to make it work properly. When using my 5000 with the 35, it will make the 5000 go crazy even when placing it several feet away. I have to turn off the 35 to settle the detector. I have retired the 35 and purchased a Carrot to use now days. Not a huge deal but hate to waist money like that. I am very happy with all other Minelab products I have.
  3. I bought the Pro Find also under the proclamation by Mine Lab that when off it would not interfere with the 7000. It looks like no one from ML tried it out before making that statement. Worse yet, it's not even a good pin pointer.
  4. Gerry, It looks like I was wrong about the price per gram of my Gold Basin find. I looked just once at a comparison price on the Aerolite site Gold Basin find and did not do any further research after that. It is a very nice specimen but due to so many being found a GB, the price is much lower than I first thought.
  5. Always good to review and remember the basics, never a waist of time.
  6. Lunk, I found this meteorite several years ago, just after the Meteorite Men show went off the air so you could very well be right. This one does have a very good fusion crust, the best I have found, that does give it some value.
  7. I had the local "Tent and Awning" outfit make a bag for my 7000, nice heavy duty zipper, padded, water proof and fits the 19 incher in it without having to collapse it. It is a very large bag though. Cost $200 big ones.
  8. After finding this meteorite, I visited Aerolite Meteorite site that Geoff Notkin runs. He had displayed a smaller Gold Basin specimen which was for sale. IT gave the total price and the price per gram, that is what I based the per gram of my specimen. I could be wrong, that was my only attempt to see what mine was/is worth. It is a very nice one though.
  9. Thanks AussieMatt for the picture, I was confused about what a concentric coil is also.
  10. That price is very low, my Gold Basin meteorite is going for $34 per gram, much more common one.
  11. Nice going Condor, some of those washes may be good for dry washing after the larger nuggets have been harvested.
  12. I work the same way, hoping not to damaging the nugget, but wow!! have not seen a scoop wore down that much! good going!!
  13. Getting my second shot March 25th, two weeks or so latter will start prospecting again. Retired late last year hoping to go Gold prospecting full time, may be able to do that now. Good luck to all that love this pursuit.
  14. Used my 5000 75% of the time my 7000 25% of the time. Looking to use my GB2 a little more this year.
  15. I've been at GB during high winds, shook my large trailer violently all night one night. The wind did not stop all week, real nasty for detecting.
  16. Real nice Condor, persistence pays off.
  17. Better luck the next time you enter, don't step in front of that 18 wheeler.
  18. Those are some high prices. Looks like more and more folks are becoming interested in searching for and owning meteorites. A lot of that interest began some years ago with " The Meteorite Men" show, that is when I became interested. I have since found several meteorites including a very nice Gold Basin meteorite with a fusion crust. You can still type in "Meteorite Men " to get to their site and click on meteorites for sale and viewing. The site also helps with meteorite identification.
  19. Whites DFX, GB2, GPX 5000, GPZ 7000 and a Falcon also. Purchased the DFX when I first started detecting, have not used it in a long time. GB2, not used a whole lot anymore, or the Falcon, the 5 and 7 almost all the time. Both very good machines. whites
  20. Beef jerky, trail mix and sometimes sardines packed with tomato while out detecting. Back at camp, steak, potato's a vegetable and beer. Premade " boy scout dinner" tossed into the fire for another dinner. As many fresh, perishable foods the first few days before going to canned and frozen dinners in the later days. Really look forward to a good satisfying meal when I/we get back to camp.
  21. Glad things are working out for you Jason. Always look forward to your post.
