My First Equinox Silver!

Finally was able to get out with the Equinox and do a little hunting.  Let’s just say I no longer wonder if the Equinox is deep.. There are a few things I would like improved but depth is definitely not a issue..  My ground is not friendly to most brands of metal detectors..The 1900 S Barber Dime was a full 8”.. The tone was a soft but solid high tone in all directions.. No iffy about it.. I also dug a copper Token the size of a nickel at a full no BS 10”.. Same situation.. soft but solid signal all the way around.. This target was near iron but not in the same hole.. A nice surprise were the Nickels that all came in at a solid 13.. All 6 Nickels I dug today including the 7” 1924 D Buffalo were only Target ID 13..  I dug several bouncy 11-12-13 signals and they were all broken or rolled up Beaver Tails..  The Barber and Indian Head Cents All had bouncy numbers but consistent high tones..The ID numbers seem to up average as they get deep..My biggest complaint is the Depth Meter and Modulation..  The Modulation is great from about 7” and beyond..  Deep Silver and copper has a very nice soft tone so you know your on to a deep coin..  There is very little Modulation above that..  I believe the Depth Meter is calibrated to quarter size targets and I think if it were calibrated to a penny or dime the meter would be more useful.. I know a lot people don’t care about that, but for my style of Turf hunting in manicured Parks, I don’t dig mid or low conductors unless they are deep. Otherwise I would spend all day digging tabs and slaw instead of Old Coins.  The Equinox runs very quiet, fast and loves small targets..  Should be a Button Monster for you Relic Hunters..   Anyway, that’s my first impressions.. I only have very few hours on it and have a lot to learn yet..

One thing I didn’t mention because I didn’t want to be the guy who looks like he’s exaggerating or hyping a story but I can’t help myself.. This site is tough!  I never use the term hunted out but this site is very tough to pull old coins out of..  I’m a bit shocked at what  I came home with..  Especially considering I was working with a limited area because of snow and I was spending a lot of time analyzing targets..  I dug a lot of weird signals just to learn the Equinox but none of these pictured  targets were  iffy signals..  In fact not a single weird iffy signal turned out to be anything good..  I also pulled several 4 to 6 inch clad coins that should not have been there.. Normally it’s only a few fresh drop surface clad.. To put this into further perspective, my friend who is extremely proficient with his V3i went home with one Indian Head cent..

I hope today’s hunt wasn’t just a fluke.. I guess time will tell.

It’s not a fluke. Saw it with my own eyes. As have quite a few other knowledgeable detectorists now. As will others, because Multi-IQ actually IS doing something different.

People who hunt highly mineralized ground are much more likely to “get” Equinox than those used to hunting milder locations.

Thanks for the report, Bryan.  I've been reading this forum long enough to know that you a) have some good hunting spots, and b) really know how to get the most from your detectors.  Now with an Eqx you really should be labeled "armed and dangerous!"  Even given your previous success, though, this is still very encouraging.  Couple questions:

1) Did you have to scrub hard with an abrasive to clean that Buffy?

2) What settings were you using on your Eqx?

I've seen the same thing...Iffy tone, bouncy # signals always turn out to be junk. I'm going to start calling them "junky" signals. I'm at the point  with the Equinox now where I walk on those "junky" signals and don't feel like I may have left a good target in the ground... like with some other machines.
