  2. @Gold Ryder did you end up getting your 5000 back? Last few months I've been to Western Australia and back, mostly using the 6000 and have had little time to really fiddle with the modded 5000 and compare the 5 and 6. Until a few days ago I really hadn't wrapped my head around the 5000's settings and I probably still haven't! But, I am pretty happy with my settings now as it really seems dialed. 17 bits this morning for a 1.2 gram total. I had already decided to sell the 6000 as I just don't need both. Really thought I would regret losing the small target sensitivity of the 6000 but now I don't think I'm losing much at all as many of the 17 bits came off a very small spot the 6000 has been over several times. Probably still lose a bit on porous/wire type gold but don't think there is any difference at all on the denser bits.
  3. Sorry about the video after I find the pocket spill, I was shaking!
  4. Today
  5. Equinox or Manticore........Be all you can be!!!!!!!!!!
  6. Ohh man did you feel that rumbling and shaking deep down inside California? Is the BIG one hitting California or is that Jacob, Jed and the rest of that tough bunch of gold miners rolling over in their graves?
  7. As long as dealers can discount and sell for less expensive then I don't see a compelling reason to use the direct site. Is this ability for dealers to discount being removed? If dealers have to sell for the same price as direct, then that's going to be a tough row to hoe.
  8. In this "iron carpet" test of mine, a small 15.5mm nickel coin is used.. this is a super difficult test... Note that Vista Gold Gain 30khz... does not give any false signal on the nails...because this test is also very difficult to manage the detector/ discrimination/ in such a quantity of old iron.. The purpose of this test is the best detector setting for this type of separation... as well as to compare my detectors under such detection conditions... to see the complexity of the test...I still use Tesoro Mojave..as a reference machine for this test...
  9. @Ridge Runnera kind heart & the wisdom that graces age in worthy, There is no less in that. Happy Birthday if I understand you riddle correctly.🥳🎂
  10. Could be Mica. Sounds strange. TID 5 on the Legend is normally magnetic iron. You should be able to isolate that and see what it is.
  11. Steve I thank you for your concern but doing what I done gave me the feeling I’m not worthless yet. You see I turned 39 45 times today and I think this 39 has been the hardest one I’ve had to deal with yet . The Best To You always. Chuck
  12. Thank you for the insight. I will remember to take a small magnet with me the next time I hit those sites. All I know is that every detector I use seems to act the same way. Iron blips and I find it hard to believe there could ever be nails and actual iron littered that badly as the detectors are telling me. Usually low on the Legend like VDI of 5 or so. Sounds like machine gun fire. I've not really took a hard look at the legend and mineral meter yet. I do remember when I had an XP ORX the meter would wildly swing around on minerals from nothing to full, then partly full then nothing, and repeat. The little specks are best described as shimmering in direct sun when the soil is dry. I guess I need to get some samples and take pictures. I don't know what the stuff is. There are usually some flaky sandstone like rocks in the area too. I've seen a large section of the sparkles and when you pick it up the stuff crumbles. Very fragile.
  13. At the moment they've gone to the effort of putting every detector on there, including the GPZ and GPX's, I can't see them removing them.
  14. My local dealer here in Hawaii received two M9 today. One will be mine! It will replace my M11 since it is 7 ounces lighter.
  15. That may be what they have in mind. There are really good people that work at Minelab. While any company has to make a profit to stay in business and continue to grow, I have never got the impression that Minelab would totally ignore the legacy of how it all began. Doc
  16. Thanks Doc. That's what I meant by the "people who promote the product". I hope Minelab has put some thought into their decision. I just don't see their logic. It's a sport that is a very small pool of people participating. If I want a new detector, Gerry, Rob, Doc all have a website to order from, and often times they work to get me the best price they can. eBay fees are 13% last I looked, with other strings attached also. I make a point to order directly from the seller if they have a website, no matter what. If Minelab sold out the lesser models and kept the premium detectors as a dealer only that would at least not be a fatal blow.
  17. Rob, You ask a big question that does not have an A,B,C answer. Each detector has a valuable & often unique character and I wouldn’t want to be without any of them. Same for my Tarsacci, MXT and even my Anfibio Multi, AT Max & F5. I use & enjoy success with all of them. What type of soil is your red dirt? I have only seen golden flakes in red granite gravels. It is a form of pyrite if I remember correctly. There are areas of it where I turkey hunt in Mason, Texas. What will it show on the Legend’s Mineral Graph dry & wet? The red dirt I hunt in East Texas is iron base Maghemite. Some sites will have small Siderite hot rocks. When dry you can run a magnet through it and the magnet will come out fuzzy. Add man made iron bits and it gets real interesting.
  18. I notice it appears you have the Deeptech Vista X and the Rutus Versa. I've heard good things about both. The Vista X is for those who want to go back to the roots of detecting and enjoy analog. The Rutus Versa on the other hand from what I've seen is very nice and offers some great separation. Now if you will please, Just where does the Legend sit against those two in red dirt from what you've seen? I'm more interested in separation and ability to handle iron-infested hell sites. We have the classic "sparkles in the sun like gold" red dirt in a lot of places I hunt. It's like someone took a pepper shaker and put gold fine powder glitter in there at the worst places I go.
  19. Would not go to the beach without my pin pointer ! It , and my foot are both used for recovery with the pointer more for small targets like ear studs .
  20. Sorry you went to all the work to take and post those photos when the pdf for this catalog and many others can be downloaded here… https://www.detectorprospector.com/files/category/9-whites-electronics/
  21. You also seem to be able to run a very low Recovery on Be mode with no problem. It makes a big difference in depth of response. These are all observations from my red dirt mineral test bed.
  22. Good to see you here Chris.
  23. I got a couple hours on the 1.15 and noticed that in beast mode I can crank the sensitivity up the whole way with no chatter. When I switched to Park 2 DT I had to turn it back to 23 or 22 to keep the machine quiet.Overall I am liking the update but it's gonna take a little time to get used to it.
  24. So the DT setting adds the distortion? I had mine on a modest 1. It also seemed like the target audio was clipping a bit. It sounds more warbly like the Equinox. Needless to say I already own an Equinox and prefer the Legend and its solid audio before. The Be mode isn't really interesting to me. The main thing I even liked was the DT but if it is going to do this 1.13 will go back on the machine for me and do just fine. At least with 1.13 it sounds solid when you're over a target. Dunno yet, it really has me baffled.
  25. Higher levels of Dt do add some garble to deeper/ weaker targets but I can get used to it. The deepest/ weakest would not sound much at all without the feature active. I have not noticed a reduction in audio otherwise. Be mode seems a little smoother but I haven’t played with it much yet.
  26. I don't know about others but going from 1.13 to 1.15 equals less audio output and warbling added in. It seems strange when you read this but it's hard to put into words really. I noticed this also using the 1.14 beta version. It just "sounds" less like the Legend I was used to. The tones just don't sound as solid/strong or as clear. The "oomph" seems gone that was present in 1.13 When I went back from the 1.14 beta to 1.13 that fixed it. Sure seems like that weird 1.14 audio difference was carried over to 1.15 Now I will admit that right now I'm suffering some allergies and sinus issues but it sounds just like it did in 1.14 when my sinuses were fine. I factory reset before and after the update. Put all my previous settings back in also. It's quite weird
