  1. Well on this particular sub-forum prospecting means gold prospecting so I may move this to the coin and relic forum for more appropriate responses. Gold prospecting you generally are in the middle of nowhere. The only person who might harass you is some old-timer with a shotgun who says you are claim jumping on his ground! I have done a lot of beach and park detecting over the years and never had a bad run in with anyone, but I go to great lengths to only detect when people are not around. For beaches that means up when pitch black, on the beach when I can barely see, and leaving when things start getting busy. If I can identify who owns anything I find I return it. Outside of class rings though most stuff is unmarked. One of my favorite finds ever was a 1963 U.S. Air Force class ring I was able to return - see bottom of this post. Takes all kinds though. What he said reveals more about the kind of person he is rather then any reflection on you.
  2. The explanation in the manual and the arbitrary numbers are such that it would be easy for them to have got it backwards. One would assume whichever setting is quieter has DST engaged.
  3. The Simplex+ battery is Lithium Polymer (LiPo) not Lithium Ion, similar but not the same. The battery is visible in the tear down photos. It looks like only four screws holding the control box together unlike the Equinox, which is sealed. However, it appears the access to those screws is under the face plate/display so I guess it will boil down to how easy it is to pry that off without doing damage.
  4. If the battery failed under warranty you would send it in to be replaced under warranty. If it fails down the road you would send it in and pay to have it replaced. No price has been announced for this. It’s obviously not impossible to do it yourself, but probably not advisable. It has already been announced on this forum that more coils are forthcoming, as has the fact you can add the wireless headphones later. Aftermarket phones will not work, only Nokta/Makro phones. Check out previous threads on the subject for details, but there is not much to know beyond that.
  5. There was a very long discussion about this on the White’s portion of this forum when the TDI Hi-Q came out and basically the answer ended up being no. The TDI SL has a S rod and round dual field coil. The TDI Hi-Q has a straight rod and elliptical dual field coil. From a performance standpoint the only difference is the coil. Both even ship with the same owners manual labeled TDI SL. However, the Hi-Q comes with a second coil free for a limited time so is the better deal at the moment. https://www.detectorprospector.com/forums/topic/10822-tdi-hi-q/?do=findComment&comment=106563 As an Introductory Offer, the TDI High-Q is packed with a FREE 7.5" Dual Field Coil. That's an additional value of $249.95!
  6. I used digital powder scales for inexpensive accuracy, good to 1/10th grain (1/4800th oz) and just convert for home use or buying and selling. I have an older version of these RCBS powder scales, AC or battery operated with calibrations weights, will weigh up to 750 grains (1.5625 Troy Ounces). For general field use and anything but buying and selling I have been very happy with the US Magnum 500, will weigh up to 500 grams (16 Troy Ounces) and is accurate to 0.1 gram. It can weigh in Troy ounces, pennyweights, regular ounces, grams, grains, and carats. Compact with lid that doubles as weighing tray, comes with calibration weight, battery operated - and available at many places online like Amazon for less than $20.00 I have an older version with buttons in a square pattern, there are versions with buttons are in a round pattern as below.
  7. The F75+ is a different detector, an updated version of the F75 referenced in the original post. The reset function was changed to incorporate the new DST feature. From page 10 in the Fisher F75 Ltd DST | F75+ User Guide: RESET function The F75’s microprocessor saves all settings which you input, even after the power is turned off. If you wish to reset the settings to the factory preset, follow this process: 1. Turn detector off. 2. Press-and-hold the red MENU button and push-forward-and-hold the TOGGLE SWITCH. 3. Turn the detector on, while you are still holding the controls. At this step, you can turn DST on or off (see pg. 16 instructions) 4. Release the Menu button and Toggle Switch. Screen will display 5 pairs of numbers (10-digit serial number), followed by “LE”. When LE disappears, the detector is reset. and then from page 16: The user may choose to operate with DST or without DST. The default setting, at power-on, employs DST To turn DST OFF, perform the following: Turn detector off. Press-and-hold the red MENU button and push-forward-and-hold the TOGGLE SWITCH. Turn the detector on, while you are still holding the controls. Continue to hold the controls. See the "90" displayed. Rotate SETTINGS KNOB clockwise. See "91" displayed. Release the MENU button and TOGGLE SWITCH. Upon release of the controls, the detector will operate WITHOUT DST DST status is saved to memory after the user performs this procedure. Each time the detector is powered back on, it will continue in the programmed setting. The same procedure is used to turn DST back on, except that the SETTING KNOB is turned counterclockwise to change "91" to "90". DST can be turned on or off as desired, but each change requires the user to first power the detector off.
  8. Dealers will not like me saying this but part of the equation here is keeping the retail price low enough to generate the numbers to make volume. First Texas seems to be morphing Teknetics into a factory direct brand - the Teknetics website is literally https://www.tekneticsdirect.com First Texas could go big box stores for the volume discount models, and factory direct for the expensive lower volume product not suitable for sale at Walmart. Stuff like the CZ models for instance. Given the specialty nature of this detector it would be a perfect machine to put into the Teknetics line and sell direct. I doubt it will happen but it seems to me inevitable that someday some manufacturer is going to make the leap.
  9. Very nice, looks brand new. One of the last great analog metered machines. Thanks for posting! White's XL Pro meter
  10. I have to admit to chickening out on this. My Nugget Buster NDT headphones have one mode switch, and they are sealed units. That means if I loosen that nut I may not be able to get it back on tight with no way to access the backside of the switch. The same issue would exist putting on a boot. I can't really determine the size or thread type accurately without taking it apart, unless somebody has some brilliant suggestion. The worst part is according to DetectorPro there is no standard, so I am not sure my switch is the same as what you would have anyway. I am open to suggestions but I don't think loosening that nut is a good idea at the moment.
  11. I’ll look at my NDTs tomorrow, should be the same. Kind of crazy DetectorPro can’t tell you!?!
  12. It still exists as a promise at least. From the XP ORX page: GO TERRAIN Smart Phone Application This application for Apple IOS or Android smartphones is designed to optimize your ORX experience. Key features are: Geo-locate, a real time map and the ability to make an inventory of your finds. (Coming soon)
  13. I love the air test items - a wrench, an iPhone, a small shovel, and the lid off a large pot! The color and look reminds me of a 1980's Garrett detector. The armrest is similar to that on the GTI 2500. MD-88 metal detector
  14. “OK Phoenix, did the guy who told you about the NF coils mention that it had the Minelab cable with chip or was it a modified dongle? Lots of questions remain to be answered about this new 2020 coil option for the GPZ. Bill“ Talk about prototypes has constraints. It does not matter what prototypes were using, dongle or inline. All that matters is what will be sold, and Nuggetfinder has already said they are still exploring the options there. In other words, that question has not been settled yet. I am sure when it’s settled the information will be part of the official announcement.
  15. Welcome to the forum! The 24K is a great machine and will do you well.... all you have to do is put the coil over a nugget!
  16. I habitually save anything that might be useful. This was the connector off a prototype coil I had to destroy so I cut it off and saved it. I have so many extra Equinox coils the chance of me needing this is zero so may as well go to somebody who can use it. Yeah, I’ve left stuff out before a splice... infuriating!
  17. The proper splice and some of that waterproof sealing shrink tube and you will be in business. Put the shrink tube on before you splice!
  18. If you need one I have a cut off extra I can mail you. Would just need your mailing address via PM. Let me know.
  19. It would be easy to make the belt longer. Just need the right size belt clip set and more webbing. Any decent backpack supplier would have them.
  20. Have to wait for JW or whoever measures first. I sold both my 7 lb detectors and I actually am boycotting heavy detectors from here on out, even if that means I use something less powerful. So my harnesses are gone or I’d already have given you a number to work with. But I am sure JW or somebody will put a ruler to work soon.
  21. I agree but unfortunately I have high frequency hearing loss. It’s all about what we can hear and everyone has different ears and different audio processing circuits in their brain. You can have great hearing but still be tone deaf. I had a hearing test recently and my ability to hear sound is identical in both ears, but my ability to comprehend words is lower in my right ear. So my audio processing in my left brain (our brains are cross-wired) is deficient. Interesting stuff.
  22. Interesting that the coil above is a DOD coil same as the Minelab coils. That implies more stability in bad ground than non-DOD solutions. The big question mark that needs answering is the dongle situation - please Minelab, provide Nuggetfinder with the needed parts!
