A Few Nuggets For The GPX 6000 And GPZ 7000
afreakofnature replied to phrunt's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
I find myself doing the same thing to that you stated above Steve. It always seems like the volume starts out right but then it’s just too loud and I have to keep turning it down. I’ve been starting with just having the volume at one on the 6000 and then adjusting with the headphones. If I need to crank the volume up, then i go to two on the unit then I turn the volume all the way down on the headphones first and then adjust from there. And I always run it with a test just to make sure that I can hear targets. But this method for me seems to pseudo adjust threshold level and emi noise. Works well for running 10 or auto +. I have heard some very faint tiny targets this way that i missed first go around re going over a patch found with the 6k initially. I wish I could borrow a Z again to see if I missing anything deep at this patch that the 6K did not get. We have gone over this so many times with all the coils this is going to be a good test patch for new machines or old ones lol- 51 replies

A Few Nuggets For The GPX 6000 And GPZ 7000

Thats funny cause I too was messing around with the volume on the unit vs volume in the headphones to crank up the sensitivity but tone down EMI or threshold. Completely by accident as I thought one would control the other like when wearing BT headphones with an iPad but not the case at all. Too independent volume controls which give gives unique versatility.- 51 replies

The GPZ8500! You know its coming, the tech is over 7 years old! Or the GPX6800 with stable threshold using GeoSense 2.0 😂. Noticed that I adjusted the numbers to correlate with price 😂- 51 replies

Zoleo Satellite Communicator
afreakofnature replied to flakmagnet's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
I use a Garmin InReach Mini. It too can Bluetooth to your phone and use through an app that Garmin has or you can send a text just through the device itself. The recipient does not need to have the garmin app, it just texts to their phone. It has other features to but I don’t pay for them. The subscription plan that I use is the basic one and it’s about $12 a month. -
First Gold Basin Trip, Nov30 To Dec2
afreakofnature replied to Dutchman4's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
There is no overlay and the BLMs MLRS will only get you to 1/4 section. After that you will have to do your own research and pull claim maps from the county. To avoid pulling them all, there are 640 acres in a section and 160 acres in a 1/4 section. So when looking at the BLM site you can see if all the claims in that 1/4 add up to 160. If not there might be a place to detect, personally join a few of the clubs in the area and learn the ropes……..or you could claim jump. -
Same reason why I am waiting to buy any vehicle that is made between 2020-2022 atleast!

When running the 17” or 14” I do the same as Steve. Except I add the the Minelab cross-bar to my camel-bak. I will also use the Minelab guide arm, keep in mind though that it is made for the 7000 so you have to reverse the rubber strap in order for it to fit around the shaft of the 6000. It almost makes the machine weightless. However when I’m running the 11 inch get I get rid of all that stuff it makes it more stealthy and allows for larger swings.

Bret you did great! The man was finding gold the night before class even started! Welcome to nuggeteering! Now that you have the skills, get on that Idaho research and find some backyard gold! 😁

Last Hunt Above I-80, Rain Or Shine
afreakofnature replied to LuckyLundy's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
I ran the DD for the first time yesterday just to try it out. We had some pretty saturated ground from getting up to a foot of snow last week but it was just saturated not salty. I was detecting basically in mud lol. I did pull out a .03 dink, but not deep. Just FYI. -
Treasurer Hunters Court Case

To expand on this, I have a friend who was a lawyer as a public defendant. He told me that objects I find (Jewelry, Reclics, whatever) has an owner and that “finders keepers” is not the law. You could technically leave, bury whatever out in the woods, beach wherever, and if someone takes it they technically stole it from you. Even if you lost it. It technically makes sense. But 🤷♂️ -
Just remember that Amps x Volts = Watts The 6000 battery is 42Wh (Watt hours, don't worry about the hours). The 12v plug or clips charges at 6W so it will take 7 hours to charge the battery from dead. Don't worry about leaving it on longer. Once it reaches capacity it will no longer drain off the larger battery. The question now is, how many Watts is your truck battery. I tested mine on a 500W Jackery battery, so I knew I would get 10 charges before the battery is depleted. The second question is, how long would it take running your trucks alternator (aka battery charger), to charge your truck battery back up to full. What I would do is when the truck battery is full, test with a volt meter. Run it down charging a few 6k batteries (if you have the time), then test again with the volt meter to see the new level. Run the truck maybe for 15 mins, turn off and check the truck battery again with the volt meter. You should then be able to calculate how long it would take to run the truck to get back to the full volt meter reading and hence a full truck battery. If you were to charge for 3 days I don't think you would have a problem, but bring jumpers. You will have friends there 🙂 I would not advise using an inverter. Those take energy to run to convert the DC to AC and still take the same amount of time. The most efficient use is to charge with just DC.

Is It Time For Minelab To Make A New Beach Pi?
afreakofnature replied to mn90403's topic in Minelab Metal Detectors
SDC2300 might be a good beach PI. Waterproof and has salt settings. I am gonna try mine this winter and try to find a new use for it now that i have a 6k -

Yup I am also putting my vote in for a smaller coil. -
Emi, The GPX 6000.... Your Thoughts?
afreakofnature replied to oneguy's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
In regards to pluging in any coil, you have to do that about 3 times. Plug it in, screw on, push it in again, screw on further, third time its all the way pluged in tighten up. I have had to do this with all my coils. Might be an EMI source if not fully plugged in 🤷♂️ -
Emi, The GPX 6000.... Your Thoughts?
afreakofnature replied to oneguy's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
Oneguy - If you like the detector and can’t try any of the solutions of using someone else’s gear, don’t forget you have a 3 year warranty. Maybe send it in for a diagnostic check. 🤷♂️ -
I have no problem with coil twisting and I am using the 17” now. I think people who are having a problem are not tightening down hard enough. The shafts are carbon fiber you’re not going to break them tighten the clamp as tight as it can possibly get. If you’re just weakly tightening it down then you are going to have some twist. Quite honestly if you wanted to drill a hole and put a pin in yourself it would not be a big deal but I think it defeats the purpose when you want to tighten up the cord by giving it a twist before engaging the locks. So far I’m satisfied with it. Keep this in mind to if you think you can actually tighten it to the point where you’re going to break it it’s under warranty for three years! But if you drill the hole it’s probably not under warranty anymore.

Hey Rick, I’m bringing my RZR out there in Nov. Do you need any special permits for riding around on BLM trails? Mine is all licensed and registered for road riding too in my state. Thanks! -

GPX 6000! More Than Just A Detector
afreakofnature replied to Detectorist Dan's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
There is no gold in SD, we do all our hunting in WY. Yeah Dan killed it last weekend. Deepest biggest gold yet I have seen yet with this machine! Diet GPZ (or as Steve calls it GPZ Lite for you Euros) for sure in my book. I really used to enjoy winning all the beer bets before Dan got a 6k. Now he is taking my beer and my gold! 🤣 I keep telling him now that I should have never told you to get a quality detector, why the hell did your wife let you get one!! 🤣🤣🤣 Nah, Dan is great friend, detecting buddy and fellow researcher. Good partner in crime for our gold fields. Deserves the gold he is finding after for so long collecting dust. And now an active DP community member to boot! Now the next bet should be first one to find a 1+ ouncer gets a case! Game on!
