Finally! A Little Erosion!

Recommended Posts

   Hello all,

Everything seemed to be in alignment yesterday morning, when i woke up about 4 A.M., and couldn't go back to sleep after looking at the tides and weather!

Had some issues that prevented me from getting out the last few weeks, so i was itching to go!

The wind was ripping pretty good, and i had a spot in mind that had been renurished and ruined for quite a while, that should be showing signs of huntability again! Also, it's a spot that you can "dual hunt", meaning ocean beach and water, than a short walk away, intercoastal beach and shallow water!!

I got there before sunrise to beat the heat, and low tide hit at around 7:15; perfect! Did a quick peek, and liked what i saw!

Geared up; and within a few minutes, i found a decent coin line running North from the rocks, to open beach, about midway between the cliff and water! All the coins and other objects were on the harder shell layer, under about 6-8 inches of soft eroded sand! I followed it till it petered out, than backtracked a different line back to the rocks!

I was hitting a few targets in the rocks, and got to finally put my new PulseDive to the test! It worked great! A few times, i had to put my detector and scoop above the surf, and hand dig, and test over and over for a few tough targets that were locked in crevices and rock holes! Cool,  but a little time intensive! I was hoping for a sliver, or long lost gold item, but ended up with some 70's and 80's coins instead! All good though!

After about 2 hours, the incoming tide was beating me back from the good area, so i took a break, than switched over to the calm intercoastal side for about another 2 hours of relaxed hunting; mostly in the water!

Overall, i was happy with what i recovered, even though no gold or silver today! Now i know that i can return, as the erosion progresses hopefully! If not, i know the other side has some jewlery waiting for me! 👍👍

It's good to get out and have some targets.  Thanks for the Pulse Dive report.  That is more aggressive than I want to go.  haha

We are in a tweener tide without many waves but I'll give it a go tonight.

Nice looking little cut there! Lead weights, green coins, quarters.....I'll bet you weren't far from the gold or silver! Tides get better through the weekend- stay on it Joe!

Interesting report.  Coastline detecting is so much different than dry land detecting.

Is this the Atlantic side or the Gulf side of Florida?  (Would a more educated eye answer that for me?  Or better knowledge of weather given that Laura was already in the Gulf?)

GB,

   Atlantic side; South Florida!

The way to remember Atlantic and Gulf;  is sunrises on the Atlantic,  and sunsets on the Gulf!! (Gulf much preferred IMO!!)  The storm and wind field obviously did some good here! For detector guy's, and kite surfer's anyway!! And as any Coastal hunter can tell you, the opportunities can open and close so rapidly, that it's hard to react quickly enough much of the time!!  When i hunt in Georgia, i know that pretty much the only thing that is going to change, is a ploughed, or mowed field to open things up, that aren't already accessible!👍👍

Kac,

The car was without any wheels! Or else i would have tried to give it to this little kid that was asking his mom, what i was doing!!🙋‍♂️ I like to give the good toys away, along with a "Treasure" coin or two, to curious little kids; with the parent's permission, of course!! You never know where the future detectorists are going to come from!! I haven't forgotten my fascination with treasure; from when i was little!! (Oak island, Charles Garrett, and more...) But i know times are different now! And i don't want to come off as creepy either!!👍👍

  • 2 weeks later...

Great pictures. Nice to see rocks and erosion. By the looks of the targets there has to be gold there. Good luck on the next hunt.

Here are some new pics from today! Did a little hunting with the new G2+, but not much going on due to being sanded in!👍👍
