  1. I'm posting this with a heavy heart...😔 As much as I love prospecting for gold, it takes up a huge amount of my time and I am struggling to keep up with the everyday basics such as cleaning and maintaining my home, so something has to give. I will be getting rid of all my equipment. Below is a list of what's available. Serious inquiries only please and don't insult me with low-ball offers. Thanks for reading and understanding... 1. Dustpan and brush 2. Sponges 3. Dusters 4. Mop and bucket 5. Window cleaner 6. Vacuum 7. Dishwashing liquid 8. Laundry detergent 9. Fabric softener 10. Laundry baskets 11. Toilet brush 12. Cleaning sprays 13. Scrubbing brushes 14. Lawnmower 15. Brooms

  2. This is just an accusation, nothing more. It has not gone to trial, and anybody assuming the accusations are true or not is not being honest or fair. Let the legal process proceed, and when it is settled, then maybe people can start having opinions that matter about who did what. What I do not appreciate is content from other forums being posted here (it's been deleted) and fights from other forums coming here along with those posts. This forum does not support anything but posters who are calm, rational, and non-partisan. My interest in conflict is at an all time low, and anyone or anything who disturbs the peace here is messing with my personal peace. I don't care really, I just am telling people I will not put up with arguments, conflict, or anything other than polite, adult behavior. It will be deleted and people banned until it goes away, simple solutions from my point of view. I don't want to sort out who is right or who is wrong - I just want it to go away. If anyone ever tries the "they started it first argument" with me be aware I don't pick sides. I'll just delete or ban both participants if need be and move on. Using somebody else's bad behavior to excuse bad behavior does not wash with me. It's a child's argument. Thread locked.

  3. Righto, judging by the rain be months before I get out Axioming again, below is a photo of my largest and smallest Axiom nuggets, colours, scraps, whatever etc. If Steve gives his OK, I will send them both by standard post to whoever firsts guesses the weight of the larger piece to 2 decimal places in grams, small one doesn`t register on my uncertified digital scale, only 1 guess each and I`ll declare the winner once 1st correct weight is posted, on my usual daily DP visit. Biro tip is that of a fairly standard biro/pen, squares on backing are ?????, nah I`m not going to give any more hints.😉 Just a wee bit of fun to usher in 2023.

  4. Not trying to high jack your post Jeff. But thought I would add some thoughts about a park hunt I did recently. The park I visited gives both the D2 and 800 fits and it was no different with the 900, if anything the 800 ran the best of all 3. Which leads me to believe the sensitivity levels of the 800 vs 900 have no correlation. To run at a level that was manageable, the 800 did well at 20, the 900 more like 18. Parts of the park I could run the 900 up to 23 but most of the time at 20 or below. I haven't found anywhere yet I could run the 900 at 28. The new VDI is taking me a while to get used to. Way different than the 800 and doesn't correlate to D2 either. I dug quite a bit of aluminum trying to dig some nickels. The Buffalo and War nickel threw me for a loop as they were stacked on top of each other and read 45 initially. First one out of the hole was the Buffalo and that really confused me until I checked the hole and had a 54 still in there which turned out to be the war nickel. Best find was probably the bracelet made of two silver spoons. Sorry for the bad photo, the sun was low in the horizon. Also found a silver necklace but returned it to a couple of girls that asked me to look for it while I was there. Really liking the ergonomics of the 900, the upgrades they have done are worth the money IMO.

  5. I did a recon trip today looking for a new spot to dig. I did find a swimming/fishing hole that did produce a couple of good finds. The place I wanted to hunt was off limits to detectors, so....I went next door and dug. The earring is 925, I gave up on gold due to the amount of trash. I'll go back and chase the low and mid conductors next trip......Not a bad hunt , but I was expecting more. The pulltabs depending on if they were complete.....mid 30's to mid 40's, broken one hit in the teens. The lead hit mid 50's to low 60's and all the way to mid 80's if they were deep, small round ones hit low 20's. The mercs hit 80-82, I thought they were clad dimes. The .925 earring hit 55,. The bracelet hit 75, appears to be copper. Zincs were mid 50's to mid 60's. Copper penny's hit in the 70's. I was able to run my sensitivity all the way to 26 with a recovery speed of 6. Manual GB hit on 0. Since nothing was real deep, I dropped my sens to 24 and lowered my recovery to 3.

  6. Went out to another local beach this morning for a couple hours. This beach is crowded year around so early is the way to go. Even with going at sun up, I still get people that want to just chit chat. Had one guy that would not quit. He even started showing me videos of him paragliding. Had to listen to him for over half an hour. Nice guy, but ugh! For only a couple hours got a few dollars in change and 2 gold rings. One is a tiny toe ring, but 14k (gold is gold!) and another men's band. It's marked Dazzling Rock 10k. It's white gold with a lot of stones that I have to assume are cz. The men's ring was at the towel line and the toe ring on the slope. Might head out with the family to the beach across the street for some paddle boarding and snorkeling. Might even give a try at detecting neck deep! Good luck out there!

  8. Thanks to all that have replied! Slater has been hunting for a few years now and usually only lasts a couple hours. He found a small "lucky" 925 silver ring last year and wears it all the time. He's been out lots of times and found nothing so it's awesome for him to find the bracelet and especially without help from me. The silver ring is on his little finger in the below picture of him. I'm not the jealous type. I just love treasure hunting with other people whether it's for gold nuggets or jewelry. I'm usually happier for the other person! A few months ago we brought some friends to Maui and they wanted tot detect. My friend found a men's wedding band his very first target, unfortunately it was only tungsten carbide. Gerry we got a picture of the bracelet just for you! Good luck to everybody and happy hunting!

  9. During early mornings hunts I usually have the beach to myself, but during the school holidays people turn up well before sunrise.. I hate being a performing monkey and only a few people watching is enough for me to call it a day or find a more isolated beach.. The main thing I dread about being observed is people's curiosity, as inevitably someone will come over to ask if I've found any treasure.. It's not that I don't like people.. In fact I love them, their dropped coins are my bread and butter.. It's just that I can't stand people hovering over me expecting a treasure chest to be hauled out of the sand at any moment.. And what if I did? In these days of instant video my find would be all over the internet in seconds.. Yesterday morning I was wearing my headphones as the sea was up at the island's most popular bays.. It was then I discovered my headphones have magic powers.. Even though there were quite a few people on the beach already, they all gave me a very wide berth.. There was something about my headphones that prevented them from coming close.. The headphones were somehow activating the politeness part of people's brains causing them to respectfully stay out of my way, even when I found something.. It was only when I took them off at the end of the hunt that a lady came over to ask if I found any treasure.. Windy or not, for the rest of the school holidays I'll be wearing my magic headphones.. It's actually quite enjoyable to have people wait patiently until I'm done, especially to watch their faces drop when I show them a handful of rusty bottle tops.. 'Nah, no treasure today'.. 😮

  10. It warmed up enough here to get out for 4 hours this afternoon, so I took the D2 with the 13" coil and the WS6 Master with the 9" out in the field in front of my house to see what the two were capable of out there. This field had a farm on it until about the 70s, here it is in 1967: The stake in the distance is about where the leftmost top tree was in the aerial. It's all gone now but the trash and some relics and coins. I just walk out the front door and up a slight hill and I'm there 😀 I don't know when the house was built but the earliest topographic map shows it there in 1917. The spot the farm occupied is pretty trashy, iron objects, steel, and lots of aluminum. I've found a few coins here, mostly pennies and nickels. There are some relics, mostly farm stuff but every now and again you get buttons and other interesting objects. I haven't been able to hunt this spot for almost two years due to crop rotation. I spent 2 hours using each detector and the same settings, I found with the big coil that I wasn't hearing much with reactivity at 2, so I turned both to 0. The place came alive. The 13" does pretty well with separation, I was able to pick one tiny button out of the junk, the smallest one I found. The rest was all junk that ID'd from 81 to 93. With full tones you can pick out any high tone you hear and zero in on it, regardless of low reactivity, with audio response at 3 you're getting max depth with pretty quick separation. Everything is a trade off of sorts, this first time I was testing what works well in cleaner areas. Next I took the WS6 Master with the 9" over the same area, and really didn't find much more. In one spot I got a small button, a piece of jewelry, and Buffalo Nickel. Funny everything that was good today had an id in the 50s to 60s, the nickel was a 61. It's a 193x nickel I think, some of the date is visible. Here's what I managed to get out of this spot: The tiny button was a 54, the larger one a 62. The pin started as a faint 85 but went into the 60s out of the ground. It was the deepest object. Each one of these items were fairly deep, anywhere from 4-8", and surrounded by other objects, all trash. The pin on the left was probably gold plated, some of it is still visible. For sure the 9" is able to pick out targets faster and more accurately, but the 13" is no slouch either. I really like how light the WS6 Master rig is. This is my first outing with the WS6, so I didn't expect anything earth-shattering, and worse this place is a tough hunt. I'll be trying a lot more here. Hopefully I'll get some more coins. What I want to do is test increasing reactivity to see if I can pull good targets out without sacrificing too much depth. There's no EMI here and the ground is mostly unfrozen.

  12. True story.....a guy I used to know in the detector club I was in back in the 80's, was also a keen beach detectorist and got sick of people wasting his time also......so he painted with white-out the words "F%#K OFF!" on his huge headphones! Worked equally as well as having a pet monkey throwing sh*t at them.....

  14. I haven’t gotten out much this month. But the last three hunts were on the property where I work and each time I hit silver. The 1904 O barber was a surprise. It was wet that day and I thought it was just another clad quarter, but when I got home and counted my clad, I got a nice surprise! Next up was the ‘63 rosie. It was in a really trashy area and only maybe two inches deep but the D2 hit it hard with good numbers using a modified 5 tone general program. Today was the ring. I was using the fast program with disc at 41 and PWM pitch tones. It was very shallow too and rang up 96 with a 97 coming in about every other pass. I sorta thought it was going to be a silver quarter, but I’ll take the ring. (This and the barber quarter is an example of why I’d like to see an expanded high conductor tid range.). I wasn’t going to post any of these but the quarter is a semi-key date and it’s been a little slow here with the bad weather going on across the country.

  16. Eric it was like that on the gold fields when most prospector started to using the brand-new Whites and Garrett VLF (late 1970s early 80) and the holes took 10 minutes or more to dig, with a crowd of newbies watch you dig up a ground noise. ☺️ The earphones were a must in the early days even on the beach with kids wanting to dig up your treasure, A hundred of them fighting to get it first. I must admit I had one kid at a certain beach do the work and keep the non $ coins. As a matter of fact I could not get on the sand for more than 5 minutes and he would appear from nowhere. I found out a lot later that he was the only child of a single Mother so those coins were appreciated I'm sure.

  17. Just point to another area and say that you have to come back with a bigger shovel to uncover a chest over there. Just don't point in the same direction twice so you have a chance to go over that area later. Good luck on your next hunt and stay safe out there.

  20. PRESS RELEASE.pdf Dear Valued Members, Please see attached the Press Release from Nokta. PRESS RELEASE December 26, 2022 Nokta Detection Technologies is issuing the following statement in response to the patent infringement lawsuit filed by Minelab USA, on November 17, 2022: Nokta has invested considerable resources in research and development of the Legend, which performs on par with even the most expensive detectors on the market. Over the past year, the Legend's excellent performance has been recognized by consumers and ultimately led to its successful launch. Minelab recently filed a lawsuit alleging infringement of a patent directed to decades old technology. While Nokta values and respects intellectual property rights of other members of the metal detector community, Nokta strongly believes Minelab's claims against the Legend to be baseless. Minelab's lawsuit appears to represent an attempt to unjustly strong-arm a competitor rather than to protect intellectual property. It is unfortunate, but unsurprising based on Minelab's recent activity in the global metal detector community, that Minelab has chosen to make such allegations to counter Nokta's recent accomplishments and worldwide growth, instead of competing on price and performance. Nokta strongly believes America’s free enterprise system of competition has provided a healthy performance and value-based marketplace. So, be assured that Nokta is determined to vigorously defend against all allegations of patent infringement without any concern of interruption in our business. Nokta will continue to offer high-end, quality products at the best prices. Nokta’s investments in research and development will continue with plans to expand its engineering team significantly while moving this coming year to a new headquarters and technically advanced manufacturing plant. This lawsuit has only fueled our passion and desire to invest more so we can offer more in return to our customers and the metal detector industry at large. As Nokta, we will fight this dispute not only for our company, but for the sake of all users in the metal detecting industry to provide our past, current, and future customers a winning focus on best performance with a value-based variety of alternatives to over-priced detectors and sustain healthy competition in the metal detector marketplace.

  21. Forgot my nugget holder on a day trip and I had about a dozen of that size in my mouth one day. When I got back to the truck, I spit them out for pics and 2 were missing. Found 1 while flossing the teeth that night. The weight of your nugget, I guess 1.67 grams. PS. If I win, please donate it to one of those college girls working the local pub (trying to pay tuition) who wears those pasties. Fun times when I was visiting Australia and hunting gold. If I ever make it back, we need to try and swing a few. Thanks for the fun.

  22. A little known fact that may help out: one of the most influential scientists in history, Michael Faraday, who discovered the principles underlying electromagnetic induction to which modern metal detectors owe their existence, also invented a gravity balancing device in the year 1824. Once attached, this device will effectively render the GPZ 7000 completely weightless, eliminating the need for a harness and bungee system.

  23. June 29 1937 Part Four We didn’t do any mining today. The season was moving along and we had a big deposit to work but now we were short handed and unable to guard camp. There was an endless supply of rif raf out here that kept us distracted. John and I cleaned up some gravels that we hadn’t worked and we actually got an ounce out of them. They were the rich materials that had been left sitting in the bottom of the hopper. We put some sand and gravel into two small pouches and tied them up good. This would be the deputy's bonus. Then we had a good supper and stoked up the campfire just as the sun was setting. Sure enough, the deputies showed up as the night was setting in. I gave them each a small cup of whisky and set the fake gold pouches down on a log near the fire. They both took seats opposite to where John and I were. They were eyeing the pouches with pleasure. I noticed they were both carrying their sidearms. No sooner had they taken a seat and started to relax John and I stood up quickly with our 45’s pointing at them. They looked shocked and asked what was up. I told them to take their revolvers out of their holsters with their left hands and drop them on the ground. John now had his Thompson trained on them. They knew that if they made any moves they would be cut to ribbons. TO BE CONTINUED ............

  24. Yeah. Gotta be careful about focusing solely on the BT version advertised. 5.3 is the latest but that just indicates compatibility with the latest features. The OEM has to actually implement the applicable features/codecs. In this case BT LE Audio with the low latency LC3 codec. In other words, BT LE Audio can only be implemented in hardware compliant with the BT 5.3 spec, but not all 5.3 compliant hardware implements BT LE hardware or features or the LC3 codec. Note that ML utilizes 5.3 hardware (detector transmitter and the ML 85/105 phones) that contains the Nordic Semiconductor nRF5340 BT SOC (system on a chip). So if you dive into the specs on a particular BT 5.3 Audio device and its specs utilize the above chipset or explicitly calls out the LC3 codec, there is a fighting chance it might be compatible with the 700/900/Manticore.

  25. We arrived in Maui around lunch time today. My wife and I went to the grocery store to stock up for the week and while there find out the key fob battery is dead and can't lock the rental Jeep. Fortunately we can still start the car. Get to the house drop off the groceries and I have to run out to the hardware store to get a battery for the key fob. Get it fixed and get home to a note that my wife and son went to the beach and meet them there. I get on my swim suit and go to the closet to grab one the the Equinox 600's out of the closet and only 1 is there. My 15 year old already had one of them at the beach! I grab the other and head over. I drop my stuff and see him down the beach at one of my favorite spots. Watching him for a bit I see he has excellent coil control with it flat to the ground at the end of his swings and overlapping as he moves. Doing everything he was taught. He sees me and comes immediately over with a huge smile on his face! Before I could even ask he says loudly "I found something!" He pulls out this solid bracelet and hands it to me. Looking at it I said I think it's gold but without my glasses I can't read the inside. He grabs it and reads Na Hoku 14K. Holy crap put that thing in your pocket! If anybody asks if you found anything just tell them coins and bottle caps ( not wanting to attract attention). It's very unlikely it was lost this day. The last thing I need is a crowd gathering to look. He puts it in his pocket and heads over to show Mom. We got back to the house and looked on line. $1,549.00 retail! The bracelet looks new. What a score! Fits Mom perfectly!

  26. Hey Guys, I have swung the Minelab GPZ 7000 from day one with the stock 14x13 searchcoil, but the moment the new NF 12" Z Searchcoil arrived here in the US, I purchased one and haven't taken it off. I might loose a tiny bit of depth, but it made the GPZ 7000 useable to me all day without any assistance (harness, bungee, swing arm and such). It's super light and super sensitive and much easier to pinpoint with. Now that being said, the new NF 17x13 GPZ coils are just about to arrive and now I have to try them out. I never cared much for the stock 19", so the NF 17x13 might be the ticket for more deeper gold. I personally don't think the smaller CTX battery is the solution for a lighter GPZ. I found it to throw off the counter balance effect, so prefer the standard or stock battery to add a bit more weight on the back end of the detector. End users light consider the use of a good custom harness/backpack, bungee cord, swing arm or going with a small searchcoil like the NV 12" Round Z Search or potentially a X-coil.

  27. some great ideas here ^^^ Headphones seem to have much less effect for me ?😢 "Did I find anything good ??" I make them repeat it after I take off the HPs ...... "I sure did , today I got 17 gold rings and 9 of them have diamonds ! Wanna see ?" 😲 Then I pull some crusty zincolns or some other junk out of my pocket and say "Here ya go ! " And drop them in their hand . Then walk away putting the cans back on. It took me a while to get all the details worked out but now it's 90% effective. A little one I met and reported about on here a while back changed my mind about one thing. I don't do it for the kids anymore . Instead.. "I sure did !" and re-distribute the pull tabs and zincs . , sometimes a clad quarter if it's all I have.... and sorry mommy , don't try to make them throw it away. It won't go well for you . I usually make them honorary pirates before I hand out the booty.......Arrrrrrr. Once in a while one of them won't go back to mom after that , but they all get recalled as I get further away... Would ya expect any less from me ?😜

  31. I have very many hours on both detectors. The Axiom is basically a massively improved ATX. The Axiom is half the weight, and detects gold better across the board under all conditions except fully submerged. Axiom coils cost half as much since you don’t have to buy an entire new lower rod you don’t need with every coil, and at launch there are already more Axiom coils than ATX coils, with more on the way. The only thing an ATX does better is not short out when held underwater, and few prospectors seriously need a fully submersible detector. But the main thing is the Axiom simply detects gold better.

  33. Yikes, sorry you have COVID, and I hope you didn't find me snarky. 😵 Seems that's going around... 😀 Tried the 11" for a while because I couldn't get a 13", but I put myself on a notification list a long time ago, and snagged one of the trickle they sent. 👍 it's only about 5 ounces heavier, hardly noticeable. I really like it. So much in fact I'm considering selling the 11". Now I have the great coverage of the 13", which isn't too bad in the fields at present, and the accuracy and light weight of the 9". If the corn stalks were higher (they knocked em down to spread field cover this year) I'd say the 13" might be a bit trifling, but even if you have to lift it you're going to find stuff.

  35. Unlike VLF or multifrequency which decides for the user what is good or not and loses a lot of sensitivity. The analog PI transcribes all electrical variations into an audio signal. You decide, not the machine ! All of the following conditions will lead to loss of sensitivity if they are not respected: - Audio Threshold too high: masks the small target variations so deep variations. - Headphones with low gain on the piezo or speaker: performance may be reduced by 15 cm on the US nickel. The audio gain directly becomes the detector gain. - Too strong EMI, in general they are linked to human activity, can mask small variations and cause the detector to lose 50% of its sensitivity. - A sensitivity that is too high depending on the search areas can generate a lot of EMI and you fall back on the case of appearing explained previously.

  36. There is a buck boost, the power supply is maintained continuously at 15V, if the battery is at 16.8V it lowers to 15V and if the battery is at 12V it increases to 15V. Thus there is no loss of sensitivity over time. You have the same performance until the complete discharge of the battery pack. The detector is not designed to be used near residences, yes it is an EMI problem and you will not be able to cancel it near residences. Too high sensitivity is the enemy in this case as your target signal will be hidden by EMI In my laboratory it's different I canceled a very large number of noises generated by household electrical appliances. But I admit that for me it behaves 5 times better than a VLF at the same place. If you used a VLF under the same conditions at 100% sensitivity it would be even worse I guess. The offset frequencies cover 50hz and 60hz but there is no miracle for all sensors around electrical devices. (motor, fridge, freezer, neon tubes, neon lamp, leds, various electric dimmer etc...) It's a wet sand beach design only.

  37. Yes, patents & copyrights are different but if NM violated copyright (by ripping and directly using ML code) then it certainly would have been mentioned in the complaint. The reason that a distributor is named at all is because this is a US patent; it only applies to an infringing product made in the US (which the Legend is not) or sold in the US (which it is). Because it's sold in the US, Minelab needs to state an infringing seller in their complaint, and they only need one. Assuming that this patent was not granted anywhere other than the US, Nokta could continue manufacturing the Legend and selling it anywhere except the US and that would not violate the patent.

  38. There is no question that the lawsuit concerns the Legend's use of SMF and, in particular, how MF signals are demodulated. I downloaded the complaint from PACER and it's very explicit. Yes, it's possible to rip the code from an Equinox and then use that code, but it would be a seriously tall order and probably harder than just writing your own code. Also, that would be a copyright violation and the complaint makes no mention of it.

  39. Some time ago I backed up over my 800 and destroyed every part except the fragile arm cuff. I’ve been waiting to replace it and Gerry’s post that he was getting a shipment in a week was enough for me. Gerry is a pleasure to deal with- more on that in a separate post. It takes all of 30 seconds to assemble. As mentioned by others the carbon fiber shaft and locks are a big winner as well as the arm cuff. i hunt 90% of the time on a beach near the Oregon border. Lots of nails at times from people burning pallets. - the bass in the headphones sounds muddy to be but not as bad as the ones from the 800. I miss the wm08. -it seems even more sensitive than the 800, I base this on two things, I can easily detect tracks in the sand as well as moving water on the wave slope. The 800 would do that maxed out on the sensitivity, the 900 does it at sensitivity running 20 - 21. As my Buddy Ray says “ The good news is this is an extremely sensitive machine, the bad news is this is an extremely sensitive machine.” -Faster, more separation? I can’t prove it but it’s fast for sure. I did find some spots with lots of nails but pretty barren of good targets. I did pick some small flecks of copper out of the nails. I’m totally confident that I’m hearing the good amongst the nails. i hunt fast and cover a lot of beach until I get to those spots with targets, this machine does exactly what I want. I’m happy.

  41. This first video is a sort of strange Minelab video for the Russian Market. I guess Minelab is trying to keep the mystique alive. An English translation is CC on the video. The second video is from Iffy Signals testing the Manticore over an iron nail. The interesting part of this video is the brief glance (at about the 45 second mark) of what Iffy is wearing! Is that a skirt, a kilt or some very strange pants Iffy has on? And the last video is from my favorite NYC detectorist and Youtube videologist (is that a word?) talking about the advantages of the Manticore and the XP Deus II. He makes some very good points that will help many on the fence about which they should buy. It really comes down to what is important to YOU at this point in the knowledge of the Manticore.

  42. Return it? What's that? Nothing I find without an inscription or date in it ever gets another thought. Unless a person approaches me and makes an accurate description.

  43. Nice find. But I'm surprised no one has said anything about attempting to return it. Now , what are you going to teach him next as a father ? Try to do what is right seeing it was a fresh drop or screw it , be a pirate ? If he lost his wallet full of cash & cards it would not be a good feeling. If your only there a short while it's easy to contact local hotels or social media , etc. GL on what you decide.

  45. I agree, I have half a dozen or more that were duds. I used the 800 to verify the LL APTX, It's gone so.....have to see what you guys confirm from here on out. I don't understand why Minelab won't just come out and say what the hell they are using.

  47. I've got the 11", probably going to sell it because the 13" isn't really any heavier. 😀 The whole Deus 2 rig with the RC and 13" on Steve's shaft weighs less than my Equinox 600 with Steve's shaft and the 10x5 Coiltek. 🤣 I like ellipticals. I could use the extra $$ to get the 10x5 FMF if they ever make one 😁

  49. Me being an inland gold jewelry hunter.......Here is an Equinox 900 low/mid conductor targets photo. This was done in Park 1 Multi, sensitivity 20, recovery speed 5, iron bias 1 using the 11" coil with the targets being passed about 3" from the center of the coil opposite the coil nut. This photo is of targets that I find often that are regularly shaped. I did not include random bits of foil or can slaw and I also didn't include damaged/bent pull tabs which can definitely change the target ID. BIG DISCLAIMER........this is a photo of air tested target IDs. Even from my little time behind the 900, some of these change slightly with depth, soil conditions and search mode used. So this photo is for reference and for hunt strategies only and is absolutely not definitive. It starts with tiny gold chains and earrings and ends with a copper jacketed 40 S&W hollow point slug. Coins are 1853 US $1 gold coin, modern nickel, Indian Head penny and zinc penny. Women's small engagement/promise rings are in the teens. Bigger rings are everywhere up to almost 60. The highest reading gold ring I have is 18 K and weighs 10 grams. Targets are placed below their target IDs.

  50. The ground has thawed out enough to do a couple of hunts with the Equinox 900. Yesterday (12/26/22) I did some comparison testing and a short freshwater beach hunt where I dug every target and got to help an 8 year old that I met there named Penny conduct here first hunt with a tiny but actually decent kids detector that did very well, . Today I hunted an incredibly trashed park where much of the trash is actually zinc pennies!!!! So, most of the beach hunt was for comparing Nox 800 and 900 depth and EMI mitigation. I was able to run the 800 even in Gold 1 at 22 sensitivity with just some minor chatter. I was able to run the 900 at sensitivity 25 with similar amounts of chatter. Stating the obvious, the 900 at 25 is more sensitive than the 800 at 22. I did a buried 0.1 gram nugget test in Gold 1 with those sensitivity settings and everything else the same using the 6" coil in moderate mineralization. Nox 800 got clean hits with correct ID at 2.5" depth and had clean 2 way hits with iron ID at 3". The Nox 900 got clean hits with correct ID at 3" depth and had clean 2 way hits with iron ID at 4". Manticore and Nox 900 and their iron handling (or lack of it) is all over YouTube and the internet....... I dug 3 iron targets and 45 non-ferrous targets including a crinkly sounding .925 silver bracelet/necklace with with tiny stars on a microscopic chain that had upper range iron tones mixed in around the edges of that target. Anyone that has some time on the Equinox learns that many solitary iron targets will have iron tones toward the center of the target and can have progressively higher non-ferrous tones on the edges of the target almost like a high tone halo. This silver bracelet/necklace was exactly the opposite. I also got a mens tungsten ring........a ring is a ring for me anyway. So, yesterdays freshwater beach hunt demonstrated that the Nox 900 is every bit as good as the Nox 800 with no drop off in performance, with more sensitivity and with good EMI mitigation. Today I went to a park that is full of zincolns. I searched an area that was about 20X50 feet and I dug every shallow target (ground is still half frozen) that gave a two way signal for about half of that area. I had to change my strategy from exhaustion and from my pinpointer batteries and my spares all being basically dead or dying. Anyway, I wanted to see how well target ID accuracy was on co-located non-ferrous targets and on co-located ferrous/non-ferrous targets. Most of the iron targets are deeper at this site so I didn't get to try that out on the 900 very much. I did not dig any steel crown bottle caps for some reason.....I had iron bias on 1 with -10 to +99 accepted using Park 1 with recovery speed on 6 and sensitivity on a quiet 25 using the Coiltek 10X5" coil. I was getting a lot of ground feedback from being semi frozen and moderately iron mineralized so I rejected -19 to -11 which took care of most of it. I dug 99 zinc pennies, 29 copper Memorial pennies, 1 1926 wheat penny, 8 Jefferson nickels, 11 clad dimes, 4 clad quarters, a Sacajawea $1 coin, a 1947 5 Franc coin from France, a nice brass cross, and a nice .925 silver braided ring along with 30 or so pull tabs, some other non-ferrous junk and 3 iron targets. So basically, I got some really good, dig a lot of targets time behind the 900. Zinc pennies near the surface have very wide target IDs from 58 to the low 80s. Nothing new there, Nox 800 does something similar on near surface corroded zincs. I just lifted the coil a bit and the IDs stabilized between 60 and 65. The other US coins recovered could all be easily "called" before digging even with very little Nox 900 experience. The only real surprises were the brass cross and the holed 5 francs coin. The silver ring was about 5" deep and had a rock solid ID of 81. This target sounded different and very beautiful. I was not surprised with it being a ring......since I have had that experience many times with the Nox 800. So, similar to the Nox 800, when I get a single digit ID on a non-ferrous target and the target appears to be coin sized using the onboard pinpointer for sizing...........I am digging that target. The ring had pull-tabs and two zinc pennies within 3" from it but I heard it clearly and like I said it had a super solid ID. So, target separation on the Nox 900 is excellent.
