Montana Gold

Nice work and nice gold!

Detecting the mountains is sure a different game than the deserts and prairies. That's some serious work you got going there clearing the land.

Crazy year for bear attacks, we've had a couple down here too already but luckily I think the people all survived this year. I haven't seen any griz for a few years myself but I'm starting to see lone wolves more often now.

Your spot on target jasong. On top of this if we get our excavator and D4 dozer in here we will have the forest service to deal with and we'll, we know how they call the shots according to their own personal agenda, not what the rules say they have to follow. A friend that has been dealing with them for 40 years now on his claim will be doing a chapter in my next book to bone everyone up on how to successfully fight the forest service with their claims if they have one on forest service property, and how to work each step properly to lay the ground work to sue them if they give you the runaround. This strategy to deal with the forest service sets them up in a legal trap should they try to push their personal agenda and keep you off of your claim. There is a lot to learn when dealing with them. It's time we fight them at their own game, and win.

Nice to see some finds. I was going to say you should change your avatar name to goldseeker 6000 but then see you are still using your 5000. No gold is easy gold & you deserve all you are getting. Thanks for sharing.

thunder, lightning, wind, and lots of rain cut todays hunt short but did manage 15-20 tinys.  So I get home about 1:00 and neighbor trots over and tells me that a few minutes before I rolled in a blackie crossed my yard right by garage and strolled onto his place.  Bears in the subdivision happen semi-regularly, even had one on my front porch a few yrs back.  Bears behind every bush in Montana.....

JEEEEEEZE  Reese..... I thought the blowdown up XX creek was bad but that shit on your new claim is triple bad compared to XX creek.....have fun with that...lol

i have only seen 2 bears in the wild and would mess my pants if i saw a grizzly.
if i was hunting up there i would have at least my 30/06 with me, i don't think a pistol would do the job.
nice gold.

I've been pretty lucky down here in so much as the USFS seems to pass off all the permitting stuff to the BLM and let them deal with it, and the BLM is pretty mining friendly here in WY since we are a mining state. But that's unfortunate Montana is having issues now, hopefully it doesn't start down here too.

I just ran into a new one in AZ - the state mining inspector just sent me a letter along with 3 "violations" saying that I'm responsible, at my cost, for fencing off and/or reclamating all old workings (they date back to 1880's to 1970's) on one of my claims. They sent me a letter saying I had 60 days to the work or they would sue me. It sounded like some kind of legislation through rules rather than laws to me, so I talked to the AZ BLM legal department and told them about it and said if anything, it's the BLM's responsibility because they should have collected bonds from the prior operators, and thankfully they agreed with me and talked to the state mine inspector about it. I'm sure other claim holders in AZ are going to get similar letters and unlawful requests though because the woman writing the "violations" said she is just starting to issue them, so people be aware of that... They seem to think people who weren't even born when something happened now bear the personal responsibility for them.

In this world I've learned a few things, and one is that some people will walk all over someone they think is weaker or won't fight back. So I've resolved to always fight back no matter the size of the bully, and never back down from an unlawful challenge or wrongdoing on general principal.

I totally agree Jasong, I am gearing up for a fight too. My friend Will just heard back from Hans Oak and he told Will that he and myself and my claim buddies will have to get bonded before they will allow us in on his claim to even detect. They put a gate up going down into his claim and he is having trouble getting a key to drive down to it.

I made it down to bedrock finally. Just the small deepest hole within the big hole. I cleared more ground to start layering down and working down the drainage towards my buddy 's hole. I am right in line with him and his hole to bedrt is only 3 ft. I was afraid when I started this hole yesterday that the bedrock was going to slope down as you go up slope from his hole. Itt a deep one so now the fun begins removing all the material within the cleared boundary of what I prepared. I noticed the deepest part of hole when I hit bedrock lookes like a mummy looking back at me. You can see both eyes, nose, right nostril, cheek bones and mouth. Pretty funny. I am standing in the deepest part of the hole. The last photo caption "This sure the hell ist Rye Patch"
