Most gemstones such as diamonds will refract a better color without a backing. That is why most diamonds have no backing. Other gemstones that I have seen also use little to no backing on high quality pieces. I could be wrong, but that is what I have been told by jewelers in the past.

The Bahamas have been having problems with crime and so be careful on where you go outside the U.S. Check out the areas that you are wanting to go before booking your transportation so that you don't wind up in a place where you could get hurt.

Try to shine a light from the backside to see what it does also. You may have a man made stone they call a sunburst that shows something like a cats eye when you move the ring side to side. They are usually blue to purple in color.

I saw that episode about those mines, the guy that has the mine next to it said what they were and how far down they went. Almost each one of those holes were a separate claim, I just not see how so many people could dig that close together and not get into fights. I have seen several people digging in parks and on school property and not fill their holes back in and it just makes me mad.

Is the stone open on the back, if so it should be real and not a fake. Thanks for the update and i hope that it turns out to be a good stone for you.

Thanks for the video as it looks like you found a good spot for the gold. Be careful when removing the mercury from the gold, I use a collector system after it vaporizes. I have added over 2 ounces of mercury to my collection bottle. You never know when or where it will come from. Always wear a good mask when doing it and stay safe.

Still a nice find as you can honestly say that you found a Rolex. Keep looking and the rest will show up, it may be a bit deeper or closer to the water due to the wave action. Good luck and good hunting.

Erik, If I have to be honest with you in my search of parks and lakes, it look as if you have beaten me so far this year. You actually showed what I have found so far this year and you can stop complaining about just a week.

I would hate to see you pound sand, and I just get sick about the thought of it. You have to be either desperate or unhinged, just go to the local bar and get someone drunk enough to take home.

Looks very nice, I like the wood the most and then the rocks. Nice going and would like to see them when they are finished and with higher resolution pictures. I like to blow them up to see all the details better. Thanks for sharing.

With everything that I have read and heard so far I see no reason to replace my 800 for the next few years. I can honestly say that it has served my grandfather and myself quite well and since I added the 10x5 coil I just can't see something that can beat it right now. This does not mean that there is something better out there, but for an all around use detector I don't think it can be beat.
