  1. I have been using the 10x5 in our creeks near me to help in finding good gold bearing ground. I like the way I can go side to side and up the edge of the creek walls better than the 11 inch coil. I know that the last time I went to a old ball field I was able to get much closer to the chain link fence to find more items to dig without falsing due to the fence. Actually when the fence was about 6 inches above the ground I was able to hunt directly under the fence with no problems. I do believe that when you are in a different area than where I am at things will be different so I can't say if either coil would be better under those conditions. all I can say is what I have experienced with the small amount of time using the 10x5. Good luck on your next outing.
  2. That is some really nice gold and it would be very nice if you would share the GPS information to some of us so we can come by and congratulate properly. Good luck on your next outing and stay safe.
  3. Great video and thanks for sharing it, nice looking button and I hope that you can identify it.
  4. Yes I remember that contest, and still believe I had the right answer no matter what he says. Who knew that it wasn't roller skates with a built in sluice. Congrats again and I know that you will put to good use, let us know how it works for you.
  5. Very nice nugget she's holding, I would bet that almost any detector would have found that one. Thanks for sharing.
  6. Very nice hunt with some good silver. Sorry there were no gold for you this time, but it will come soon. Good luck on your next hunt.
  7. That is the same way my grandfather taught me how to pan. It works very well and I have always found gold in the pan if I had good dirt in it.
  8. Looks like a great combo, but is the Micronox the 800 or 600 version. People want to know. The 800 is the reason I haven't upgraded to something else yet, that and still learning it. I have found that it suits my needs quite well where I do take it and find almost everything that I have wanted to find so far. I have not taken it under water yet because I don 't want a leak to happen. I also like the 10 x 5 coil on it for the creeks that I hunt gold in as it does a nice job finding the areas to set up and pan or sluice at.
  9. Great hunting with some very nice finds, that IH looks to be in great condition for it's age. Good luck on your next hunt.
  10. Sorry to hear about the problem. Maybe you can clean up the wire and put a sealant over it to protect it. I don't know if it would void the warranty or not so you may need to check on that first.
  11. Congrats on the ring, were there very many people out detecting near you. Good luck on your next outing and look for some more of those markings, to see if the same person who made them lost anything else.
  12. So sad to hear about the loss of your friend. I don't remember talking to him, but I know that many people on this forum is very nice and seems to be good at what they do. I feel the pain of your loss and I know that this forum will miss him greatly. Peace be with you and remember him with fondness.
  13. Wow, that is a nice little contest they are having. Should they bring it to the U.S. I would still have problems with it because they have a 100 word limit on it. Thanks for sharing.
  14. Very nice hunt with something to be proud of at the end of the day. Good luck on your next outing and stay safe.
  15. I am still in my early 20's and had a wonderful teacher in my grandfather. We went panning for gold, sluicing for gold, and many other great things in the outdoors. I never had any interest in video games as I love the outdoors. Just a couple of weeks ago I took my girlfriend out to a creek near where I live and showed her how to find gold. I know that it was small here in Illinois from the creek, but she enjoyed it greatly and keeps asking when we are going again. Yesterday she gave me some news that shocked me and it was that she is late. I am keeping my fingers crossed that she isn't late as there is more that I want to do before I settle down with a family. We really did have fun panning for gold, but I think I need to remember to make it home at night instead of pitching a tent. The 10x5 coil has been working in the creeks finding the right spot for some pay dirt. I have only been using the 800 since my grandfather had passed away, so I am still a newbie.
  16. Steve, Thank you for replying and giving us the answer that should have been said on the first page in my opinion. I only asked the question about a color screen to see how many responses there would be. I have used the NOX 800 and have found several silver coins wit a wide range of target ID's. Such as a few quarters, dimes and even 2 trimes. They each are silver but have a different ID at different depths, or even if they are on edge or flat. The larger silver coins have been in the 30's while the trime has been in the mid 20's. I enjoyed your response and have seen first hand just how depth and orientation of the coins will give a inaccurate ID. I have also had can slaw read the same as silver coins and have dug many pounds while detecting like so many others who swings a detector. I have no idea if AI could ever work on a detector for any useful edge in this hobby. Computers are only as good as the programmer and today detectors are more computers on a stick. Like so many others that would love to see an all knowing detector, I would probably buy one. Thank you for the reply and thank you for this site to help so many people like me understand how to use a detector and what to look for.
  17. Keep it natural unless you are just wanting to cash it in. I think that it should remain the same way that you find it, and if you want do like I do when I go fishing throw it back and keep on going.
  18. Welcome to the forum and as for maps you can search the forum for them to learn what to look for while hiking. Sadly there are no maps that will tell you where the gold is or there would be a waiting line to pick it up. There are many people on the forum near you that can help you out and teach you a few things. Good luck and good hunting.
  19. Nice story Gerry and am glad for the little kid, but I think HotSauce is still the champ on this one. He found it all by himself ain't that right HotSauce. Just kidding I enjoyed both stories and pictures, and hope the kid is still detecting.
  20. Great hunt with a lot of digging, something I like to do but haven't had time to go yet. Good luck on your next hunt and stay safe.
  21. Glad to see you pull in some gold even if it is a little small. The feeling must have been nice when you found it, and even more when you pulled it out of the ground. I have problems with my ears ringing all the time and have trouble with tones on my 800. I have to learn the different patterns that the small gold has so that I will be able to use my detector better. Good luck on your next outing and stay safe and cool in this weather.
  22. Chase, What if they keep induction based technology, add a full color screen and assign a color to each type of metal. That would give a person more of an idea of what they have come across. Since I am still new to detecting I have often wondered about this, and would like to know if it is possible to do such a thing. I could see cases where silver and gold would show up at the same time, or copper and iron together. If the display would show the colors of each item then that would be the next step in detecting for me and a lot of others. Just a thought.
  23. I believe that with all the data required for AI to work properly by the time it has been worked out the detector would weigh to much to use. Not only the ram, the processor, and every thing else needed to make it work, there would have to be over a dozen different circuits that would have to be user friendly for the type of area that they would be detecting in. Please don't get me started on the water aspects of the system as that will also have to be trained to detect in. The detectors today is weighing less and less for a reason, people don't want to be swinging a 10 pound stick all day. I would love to be able to use a detector that knew for sure what was in the ground that I was about to be digging. I wish you luck in your endeavor to create such a system, but remember that it will take years of sampling just to get the basics of the data down.
  24. In the unsorted pile it looks like a ring next to the U, is it or is my eyes just playing tricks on me. That is a lot of digging for sure and I hope your back gets to feeling better after all that. Good luck on your next hunt, and bring in some gold to that pile of coins.
  25. Nice hunting and I am sure that it was hard work this time of year. Good luck on your next outing.
