  1. The iron piece looks like half of a mold of some kind. Is the round end with a half of a hole in it. If so it could be for making musket balls for a gun. Just a thought because I could see some type rivets in the metal. What do some of the others on here think about the idea that i have suggested.
  2. Welcome back and hope to be hearing about your detecting trips. Good luck and stay safe.
  3. If you take a small screwdriver and try to crush/smash a piece of the yellow stuff it should not break. If it is gold it will smash it rather than break. Hope this helps as I hope that you have found some small gold. Can you get a signal from your metal detector from it, if so what type of detector and what is the ID numbers.
  4. Don't do it, don't do it, it's a Chinese knock off. It's not the real thing, it's a fake. The detector gods area trying to fool you. I hope I was not to late on letting you know about this.
  5. Nice finds on the rings, but the real question is what type of matchbox car is it. Good luck on your next hunt and stay safe.
  6. I wonder if the school that he went to has one of those on display with his story. Should you ever find out and they want it, you know exactly where to look for it. Thanks for sharing and good luck on your next outing. I also heard that a little bit of fuel across a field on a windy day takes care of the crops real quick. I know that you would never do such a thing like that, because you like the waiting game on detecting a nice spot. If you need to know which fuels I can ask some of the local farmers I live near, just for reference of.
  7. Very nice find, it must have been as thin as flour gold or a rubbing. When panning I have found some of the flour gold won't give a signal unless there is a concentration of it in the pan. Gold is gold so keep it. Good luck on your next outing.
  8. I have been reading al this hype about a machine that has not even been released yet, and I am glad that when grandfather left me his detectors one of them were the 800. There is very little that it can't do, and very little that I can't find with it so I guess I will be happy with what I have for now. When I can afford something better that has a proven track record then I will consider getting it. Currently I feel that I have what is best for me and what can meet almost any need in the future for me.
  9. Great job and hard work on the hunt to find so many rings, but I am sure that you had fun at it. Good luck on your next outing.
  10. When you and Gerry get it there and at that price let me know and I will take 2.
  11. Very good article reading what everyone has had to say about the Axiom. Gerry as for the coil hitting the ground try using the cloth tape they use for chairs as it will stop a lot of sound when you hit the ground and rocks. You can also pick you own colors.
  12. What size coil were you using? Is it the coil size or the settings that help the most?
  13. Very nice reading the article, always nice to know that there are good people left in this world. I just wonder if that may have been one that I lost, but I know that I didn't go to that school, but it is a ring. Good luck on your next outing.
  14. Welcome to the forum and I for one will be waiting to hear of some of your stories. Please include a few pictures of your finds to go along with them and I am sure that others will enjoy it also. Good luck and good hunting, stay safe out there.
  15. Yes you are correct on that as I did not know how thick it was. I believe someone else is correct when they stated that it was used for clothing to keep them held together. The item that grandfather had was sold off to an antique dealer and they were much thicker. So I am sorry for not being able to show a picture of it. I was told that there were 12 clips with some rope or leather that they were on. Good luck on finding out what they are.
  16. Nice hunt any way. Soon the ring gods will make your day and send you several of them, just don't get upset if they are only silver. Good luck and stay safe.
  17. What a way to have a great hunt! Nice saves on the rings and necklace. Good luck on your next outing.
  18. The locking part is not close to what the picture is, but it is on the right track. Grandfather had a set closer to it, but they were clothes pins that were still on a clothes line. The line went through the top of the pin above the clasp. If I can find them again, if we still have them I will post some pictures of the set. The slide lock would keep almost anything from falling and they were silver plated. Sugar tongs were mainly between 4 and 5 inches in length and seldom had a locking mechanism on them.
  19. Glad to hear the great news for you. What size coil were you using on your detector? Good luck and keep it up. Stay safe out there.
  20. After reading further into the post I did see where he had stated the 6000, sorry. I still believe that the 10x5 will still be better under brush and in some of the hills slopes and crevices. If there is a place the 11in can't get to the 10x5 should do the job nicely.
  21. Nice article, I had known about the weather over there but had o idea about some of the places to be hunted. I hope that someone responds to your question just to see what they may have found.
  22. Nice finds, sounds like the thing broke up in flight which is normal and fell over the area. Good luck on your next hunt.
  23. That looks like a lot of work on the hunts and then to display them in such a nice way. Good luck on your next outing.
  24. Thank you for sharing your feelings with us and I hope to never offend you in any way. Your site means a great deal to many who detect, prospect, or sluice for all the knowledge and I thank you very much for letting me be a part of it. Steve is my shepherd I shall not worry He has guided me through the machines and what they do. From his forum I have read many items that make my day. Steve has gathered all the best knowledge for one to read To improve their knowledge on what they do. He is honest, loyal, and just a great man to give us all the best he can. One of these days I wish to detect with this man Just to show him what I have learned. Keep him in your prayers to live long and prosper so that we all can learn from this man and his forum.
  25. Very nice find for sure, you just don't know when or where the next big find will be. Thanks for sharing the video.
