Not A 1916d Should I Toss It Back?
Valens Legacy replied to kac's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
So since it's one of the cheapies, I still think you should send it to Joe D so that when you look at it you won't worry about it not being one of the 1916d's. Problem solved! -
I don't care where your at hot is hot, and then add the humidity and it gets darn hot. Nice picture of the river, which one is it? I would be detecting near or in it if I had the chance.

Not A 1916d Should I Toss It Back?
Valens Legacy replied to kac's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
16, 17 whats the difference as it's still old. Great find and glad that you were able to recover it! Good luck on your next hunt, and if you don't want it because of the year just send it to Joe D. -
Some things that I have done with my grandfather with a site like that was to get a 20 liter bucket full of material and use a pan to see if there is any color first. If we found anything interesting we would go back and hit it hard with detectors and a recirculating sluice to get the gold. Your area may have some real fine gold that is not detectable with most detectors, so don't give up on that spot. Check in the cracks, at the bottom, and on each side to find where it may be. Good luck.

Resurrecting An Old Dredge
Valens Legacy replied to Sasquatch's topic in Gold Panning, Sluicing, Dredging, Drywashing, Etc
I found this in some of the articles from the database. I am sure that Steve would have the best advice for you when he gets back. You might find something closer to what you are looking for in the database that I have missed. Good luck, looks like you found something that can do the job. -
Welcome to the forum and the 800 is a good detector for your area. The 800 loves silver and will hit it hard, I know that from using my 800. Good luck and please show us some of your finds when you come across them, we love pictures and the story behind them.

You should start a new post on this forum section. Welcome to the forum and good hunting.

I agree that it is hard to hunt properly in long grass when it is constantly getting caught in the spokes of the coil. Thanks for the information about the plate.

I have spent the past 3 hours looking at all types of pins and still haven't seen anything close to that. Good luck on identifying it because I want to know what it is!

Coil Cover Sealing Tape Options
Valens Legacy replied to Skookum's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
The easiest way to remove it is to use WD40, spray it on to the old tape, let sit for a few minutes and then rub off with a cloth. You may have to repeat this a couple of times but it will come back looking like new. The tape that Geof and Phrunt mentioned is good to use and will remove with this method. Before replacing the tape clean with alcohol to remove remaining WD40. -
Welcome to the best forum on the net, and I am so sad that you live in California. After you find some good chunks of gold maybe you can move to a better state. Glad your with us and please share some stories and pictures with us.

Great hunting! thanks for sharing the pictures and good luck on your next outing.

Great reporting on your hunt and thanks for sharing it. Glad to see you came up with a couple of pieces of the golden joy. Could someone use a bulldozer to turn to ground over to uncover more gold? Is that possible or am I wrong about that? I am new at this and am trying to learn everything about prospecting out there. Good luck on your next hunt.

Back To Digging Everything..
Valens Legacy replied to Erik Oostra's topic in Metal Detecting For Jewelry
Even digging everything can be productive if you are in an area that is good. Nice finds and keep up the good work. -
Empty Folder And No Footage This Time, But...
Valens Legacy replied to Skull diver's topic in Metal Detecting For Jewelry
Great hunting, just wish you had some video on it. Could you please make it interesting for dogodog and hunt in an area where you have a cut up chicken in the water. Just to show him it is not the sharks you have to worry about. Good luck on your next hunt and I hope you find 3 of those beauties.- 9 replies

'related' Hypothetical Question
Valens Legacy replied to mn90403's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
I can state with 100% that I will never get rid of any of the metal detectors that my grandfather gave to me. They both work just fine for each of their capacity to find what is in the ground. Should I get another detector it will be in a couple of years as I want to learn everything I can with what I have right now. Once that is done I will look at what is in my price range and decide at that time. I really don't think I will spend $6,000 for almost any detector, unless I see a real need for it. -
In Need Of A Picture
Valens Legacy replied to Jim_Alaska's topic in Gold Panning, Sluicing, Dredging, Drywashing, Etc
Glad to see someone found it for you, the one that was on YouTube had a bigger inner tube than that, but was set up the same way. Good luck and happy hunting! -
Settle down gentlemen, people have different opinions all the time, and some airlines and TSA agents make their own rules as they go. Should I ever take a airplane trip I will find a hard shell case with a foam padding inside of it. That way I can make my detector fit the way I want it to. I would even take it on the plane with me if there is enough room for some clothes inside it. I usually purchase items at a store for bathroom use shampoo, razor, toothpaste and soap anyway. Then all my snacks for late night movies, it makes the maids mad cleaning the chip crumbs from the bed.

Not The Bucket Lister I Wanted To Find, But!!!
Valens Legacy replied to dogodog's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
The ID will be the same for a trime, and the tone will be just a little bit shorter. You seem to be in the right area for them, so be extra careful when looking for them. I have hit one that was on it's edge and it was just a quick blip, but a 19 on the 800. Keep looking and it will show up soon for you, good luck and happy hunting. -
In Need Of A Picture
Valens Legacy replied to Jim_Alaska's topic in Gold Panning, Sluicing, Dredging, Drywashing, Etc
Jim, I remember seeing one on YouTube a few months ago, but I can't find it now. Steve might have some information on it, so when he gets back I would check with him. Good luck and if you have time to kill check out YouTube for it. -
From Euphoria To Despair
Valens Legacy replied to schoolofhardNox's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
Sorry to hear about your new toy having Postpartum depression from leaving the factory. I had a similar problem on a piece of equipment, and found that if I removed the battery for about 30 minutes, and then reinstalled it and placed the whole thing on charge that it took care of the problem. Just maybe it would work for you, remember to turn it on while it is plugged in before you disconnect the chargeing cable. Good luck and hope it is something simple.- 32 replies

2nd Kennedy Dollar And A 1907 Barber With The Apex
Valens Legacy replied to kac's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
Kac, very nice finds again from you! Keep pounding and swinging that detector and I know you will come away with a few more of them. I love the way silver hits hard even the deep ones on my 800, and I hope they hit just as hard on your detectors. Good luck on your next trip. -
No way, just how far into the desert do you really think it can go to where the gold is. That thing wouldn't make it out of some of the places I want to hit up. Now we got that straightened out when can I expect the check?

Who Would Wear This Earing?
Valens Legacy replied to Kaolin washer's topic in Metal Detecting For Jewelry
That ear ring is to keep strange men from nibbling on her ear, seems like it didn't work this time and she lost it. Good luck on your next hunt.
