A First For Me

Recommended Posts

I don't usually find any relics worth posting since I'm usually just after nuggets, but this was a fun find for me. I was doing some scatter shot style prospecting with the 6000 around the base of a mountain searching for new gold zones and got a screamer in an area with very few targets of any kind at all so I dug a target I'd normally ignore, just to see what was there. Turned out to be this guy.

Been arrowhead hunting since I was a kid and never found an iron point before.

I have read they were also commonly made from barrel hoops.

Any idea of the Indian tribe that was in that area post 1850's? Sioux or Cheyenne were known to use them.

I have been purposely looking for kettle points and trade points at several 19th century "Indian War" sites. The native Americans that used them were very keen on collecting and reusing them and did not leave them on battlefields or hunting sites if at all possible.

Great Find!!!!!!

That's kinda cool.  Only thing interesting I've found in the goldfields so far is 2 V nickles (1905,1896) and an IH 1881.  Some prospectors I know had a real nice seated half, 1850's if I remember right, come thru their trommel and I was blown away at the great condition after it bounced around through the big trommel....
