Old Diggings At Rye Patch With The Gpz-7000

Recommended Posts

I was able to get down to Rye Patch, NV and meet up with a few old friends, make a couple new ones and have some hard earned success.

Those of you who drive around out there probably remember seeing the old piece of mining history (notice the bellows at the back lower end).  Wonder how much gold went over that belt?

Anyway, Here is some of my Success (the golden ones anyway) and a nice crystal.  Total of 26 nuggets weighing just over 15 grams.

Seeing old friends & making new ones is another big score for me and so the stories will continue... wish I would have taken a couple pics of them?  Just another reason to meet again I guess.

Rye Patch area, will always hold nuggets for a successful detectorist.  Many tips to fill your poke, have been giving over the years.  But, it all boils down to putting the puzzle pieces together to be consistent in any Gold Field.  Each Mining District will vary and vary within itself as well.  Just like Rye Patch, one hill holds gold, but the next hill over is barren.  Believe me, I’ve swung on many of them Skunk Hills looking for the clues to the puzzle.  You can’t learn this great hobby over night, you’ll have to get your Boots on the ground.  Learn the clues to your Gold Fields and just as important is to learn your Metal Detector and it’s abilities for the type of nuggets in your chosen Gold Field.

Gerry, great to finally meet you and always good to see Lunk’s smiling Mug!

Until the next hunt,

Rick

Rye Patch is known for many large and at times quite spectacular quartz crystals found while wandering around. Gerry’s is a particularly fine specimen with excellent form and sharp features. Here is a lesser quality one I found, and a link to some more pictures.

That's one of the best crystals I've seen and you do always manage to find more than most out in one of the most evocative areas to hunt anywhere. Nice work.

You did fantastic there Gerry! Great gold and crystal! Speaking of crystals, look at this cluster the owner of the mine I dug at this week in Arkansas found(after he cleaned it and soaked it etc)! Hope what I found turns out ok after I clean 🙂F6291721-9F5B-41F5-8127-79C489AEDA98.thumb.jpeg.5b90b065f2742bc5bfae69aef1423167.jpeg
