NCtoad Posted April 17, 2022 Share Posted April 17, 2022 I got out this morning hoping to add to yesterday’s two mercs. Today I went to a spot in town where there’s a gravel parking lot. There used to be two houses where the gravel area is but the front yards are still there and still in grass. I hunted there two weeks ago and got 10 wheats so I figured there had to be a silver lurking there somewhere. I got four wheats and a few copper memorials and clad dimes. But I also got a nice deep high tone. (This time I was using a full tones version of park and a full tones version of deep HC.) When I stuck my shovel in the ground I realized it was in a plug I had dug out two weeks ago! I just had to dig deeper. Lol. Out came my first silver spoon. This one’s not plated, it’s the real deal, even though there’s no markings on the part I found. 34 grams of silver! Not long after that closer to the gravel area I got a 96-97 with some iron tones coming through. When I flipped the plug over a large silver disc fell out of it. A 1943 walker! That made my day! And a massive silver shell to boot. 🎉🏆 I love those old hose sprayers, you can get them working again fairly easily. Great hunt! Btw, all the old rusty nails sounded good in deep hc. I had my disc at -6.4 so no disc at all. I think my reactivity was at 2. I’ll eventually figure out the tone nuances of rusty nails! Lol Same problem with nails and big iron. 😵 What I did was switch to Relic, but I think it eats coil battery as fast. 🤬 However, I dig almost no iron. 🤗 I want to use Deep HC, but I'll have to fiddle with it more. Let the disc work for you to better ID and filter the iron (using the horseshoe display). If you want to hear the iron you can still use iron volume WITH disc (except in full tones - in that case I try to run with disc between -2 and 0). I was also running park mode in full tones with disc at 8 and 8-35 notched out. It ran much quieter of course. I need to get in the habit of checking the horseshoe meter. I did double check some of the deep hc signals with the park program I had set up. Some of those nails sounded pretty good in deep hc and I couldn’t resist.
