  1. Thats one of the nicest gold rings I've seen found in a while! strick
  2. Great photos and thanks for sharing...looks like you are living the dream. keep posting so we can keep dreaming. strick
  3. You would think...but this is more complicated then it seems. We have three different types of detectors VLF, PI and then there is the ZED 7000. Ground mineralization is a key player. An engineer would be better suited to answer this question but I'm thinking non of us layman would even begin to understand what they were talking about. strick
  4. Thanks for this bit of expertise info. Helps us rookies! strick
  5. Nice going Skate. Wishing you a speedy recovery and some gold rings you get to keep soon. strick
  6. Nice work. It's hard to find for sure. I've only found one platinum ring so far in the 5 years I've been detecting. strick
  7. You have a great first detector. Dig like a badger and you will be rewarded. I was new to the game 4-5 years ago and have dumped all my other hobbies in favor of this one. I like to mix it up with Beach, relic, park and gold nugget detecting. This weekend I was under some ski lifts on a steep hill..It's amazing what people drop. Good luck! strick
  8. Never been to the nugget shoot but have been to Rye patch half a dozen times times. If you have not been to that area then I would encourage you to go and explore the vast expanses of terrain up there. It's magical in the Fall and it's where I got hooked on gold nugget detecting. strick
  9. Carrot and trx no problems just set detector off to the side. Strick
  10. Dig it all as long as you are capable...beach, park, gold and relic fields...it's all the same IMHO. strick
  11. I haven't even begun to play with all the settings and I know it's a keeper...now I just gotta get back out for a hunt work is killing me! strick
  12. Why do we need a spare tire? strick
  13. Umm....How many time is a coin exactly sitting exactly at 90 degrees to your coil? How many times is our coil sweeping exactly at 90 degrees to a coin? The 90 degree thing is a non issue in my mind. The equinox finds the goodies. I have a few reasons I'm keeping my 800. I've already posted them strick
  14. Your on it! My son is going to be stationed at F.E Warren in Cheyenne this Summer. Told him I'll visit if I can bring my Equinox lol. Military bases are a great resource for us. Found a few goodies at an old naval base close to me a couple years ago. Thanks for posting.. strick
  15. No roof top tent? to keep the creepy crawlies off of ya.. Nice looking rig strick
  16. These are Irish friendship rings..... vey common.. and fun to find Congrats! strick
  17. Small holes front and back would be an idea. I have one of those extreme scoops and love it. Also have the smaller scoop you posted from the maker in the Ukraine (without the small holes in the front) very nice scoop as well. Scoop and toss if you think it's small...thats what I do. Heading to Tahoe for a wedding in a week...will hit the beach for a few hours in the morning. strick
  18. Great piece of info...Thanks Steve strick
  19. On my last hunt I notched out #1 and #2 just for the sake of it ( I was hunting a park) Beach I would dig and quickly throw it above the break water. just too see what the are. Too many 1"s and 2"s in the turf. I ran my 800 over that nice gold chain and crucifix I found a couple weeks ago and the chain was a #2 in the air test. Depends on how much time you have digging those low numbers. strick
  20. Clark- thats a nice Buff...they don't come that easy here in Calif..Thats a nice looking spot you got there... I can see why you are fond of it regarding the history of your Dad and all. Give me a call when you can...I've not been hunting much in the last week (re-doing my work benches in my shop) Maybe we can hook up for a hunt soon. strick
  21. Nice finds but I like that ring on your finger best strick
  22. Steve pretty much covered everything...it really depends on where you are hunting. When I'm out in the country (away from EMI ) looking for relics I usually use Park 2 and sometimes field 2. I have yet to really even try the gold modes. I finally printed out the manual so now I can start reading it lol..very simple machine to use...One of these days I might pick up the Deus and CTX again but right now I'm having fun putting time on the Nox. strick
  23. I started out in park 1 and still use it often. I liked 5 tones as well. I think the best way to start with the machine is to use it as the quick start manual describes...if the ground becomes noisey then do the GB as described... I will say that this machine is very sensitive to EMI in some of the parks I have hunted...you have to turn the sensitivity way down to hunt. Otherwise a great machine. strick
  24. Nice work! looks like beach #2 was the hot spot this spring. Looking forward to your "battle field" stuff. strick
