I’ve been out detecting most days trying to keep the wolves from the door (extremely restricted at the moment thanks to lock downs), nothing much to speak of other than it adds up at the end of the week. 😎  Yesterday was a bit more exciting thanks to a couple of deeper bigger pieces, with the high gold price the days take made up the averages for the week.

Bigger bit weighed just shy of 3 grams, it’s incredible the depth these GPZ’s can achieve.

Phrunt😷, its an Iron Bark so can be considered a HARD WOOD😜, there was never any fear of it going all soft and falling over!!🤕

I remember in the early 90's went for a Gold Prospecting Information session with John Tully out of Dunolly in the forest ( Vic Golden Triangle) on likely Gold Prospecting areas, and he mentioned Iron Bark Trees along with quartz around the bottom of the trees along with local indicators.

Still have a copy of his A3 maps of the areas around Dunolly, he has gone on to have Gold Maps for most areas in Vic, sold at detector shops around Oz.

The John Tully maps are excellent, we used them back in the 90's, they were an invaluable tool when we first went to Victoria and had no idea on where to start to try our luck. The bit I loved about them was the historical information about large patches and nuggets found with metal detectors, even though the patches were well frequented it was nice to have that bit of local history of the golden days of metal detecting.

The past few weeks have been a bit hectic between restrictions and other jobs getting in the way of detecting but I have been out and about detecting most days. I threw a lot of the small gold in acid to clean it up and was surprised by the total weight when I chucked it all on the scales. Unless a few multi gram pieces get in the mix it often feels like I’m not doing well but the scales tell a different story. The small stuff really does add up even though I’m totally restricted to old patches on the small amount of ground I have access to.

73 grams at current gold price isn’t to be sneezed at.

There have been quite a few days where I have been out prospecting, I’ve been making myself work ground I never been into before to try and increase my local knowledge and range of options. No gold that day but I now have a much broader idea of some the country available to me and intend to increase that over coming weeks. Somewhere out there is ground that has not seen any attention with a good patch hiding within.

Hi mate, When you're looking for new areas do you detect the whole time or just when you find a likely spot?

That is an awesome pile of gold.  Shame we don't have gold or rather not much gold in southern Virginia.

That’s some really nice looking gold JP. People get all excited over the larger nuggets but I have found it easier to sell gold like that at higher prices simply because they are more affordable for more people. Long story short that’s the kind of gold I love having piles of - good for you! 👍🏼

What a nice pile.  I have a bad back and it always helps to bend over and dig a target every so often.  Long periods between targets makes me sore and grouchy.  

We have clubs here that buy gold and then they have the drawings or raffles for it at the meetings and everyone is happy!
