Best Day In A While

Recommended Posts

All I had to do today was get a material list for a deck repair side job in a neighboring town.  On the way there I hit a large park that I hadn’t been to in probably 4 or 5 years.  This isn’t an old park and from previous research that I had done there weren’t any houses there before the park went in.  I was just going there to get clad and maybe some jewelry.  I ended up on a large field that is used for soccer.  7998A52D-285D-4EC0-AFC6-67695852DA8D.thumb.jpeg.ac3bb8830eaa3506a2bd7ab23e6ee4a2.jpegThings were slow and target signals few and far between, but near the middle of the field I got a deeper sounding high tone (I was in program 3 but with the reactivity at 1.5) coming in at 89-91.  About 5-6” down I see a silver rim and out pops a 1951 rosie.  Definitely a nice surprise!   Then not 10 feet away I got a bouncy 70s signal and a few inches down was a nice little rose petal 925 earring.  I left not long after that and headed to the deck job.

On my way back I stopped in my little town and figured I’d hit some curbstrips.  I got a few wheaties and was heading back to the car and hit a strip without a sidewalk.  EB164146-BD98-4971-823C-182B6B071C9C.thumb.jpeg.0950da4edadc7c9e732aa6db4a9812e4.jpegI got a wheat then got a nice 95-97 signal and out pops a 1939 GW.  A few feet further I got a 1950 rosie.  I then rounded the corner and hit a very narrow (about 16-18”) strip along the sidewalk and got a well worn 1944 merc.  By then it was getting dark so I called it quits.

I ended up with 4 silvers, the 925 earring, 9 wheaties, a 1952 Canadian cent and $5.97 in clad.  My last silver coin was back on the last day of July so these four were very welcomed.  I’m now at 31 for the year.  6754DFAD-DEB3-49C1-9122-127B6EFEA7C2.thumb.jpeg.132b82af09e44c7511a31ad54bd353bf.jpeg2A114054-A757-4060-B2D2-F8FA0BD5C53C.thumb.jpeg.df7a2724b91e1e54f869e8071340b24a.jpegA47E7B2A-16BB-4308-B906-AA60773C9903.thumb.jpeg.84b7b6f2a6b292b6a09311ffc8acb6f8.jpeg

Nice stuff NC! My gold earring (probably plated) sorta matches your silver. I was using modified Beach Sensitive with reactivity at 2. 😀

That's some nice stuff there. Haven't messed with sensitive FT yet. 👍 Glad you had a good day.

A. 5 silver day including jewelry is getting rarer each passing year. Good hunting! HH jim tn

That’s the truth!   Permissions to private residences are hard to get and the public areas are pretty much hunted out.  Sometimes I’ll luck upon a place that hasn’t been hit hard, but it’s rare.

Great job NC, I'm only at 17 for the year. The heat and drought has put a damper on digging most spots. I do not want to loose permissions damaging a yard for a few coins. Nice to see you are thinking outside the box. Hope to see more in the future.

I count myself lucky. Most areas up here have never been hunted, or may have been hunted lightly in the past. Lots of old homesteads are still standing on their original 1/4 sections.

So far, folks seem willing to give me permission to hunt when I ask nicely and explain my digging technique to them. I cut a small 3/4 hinged plug and place my dirt on a rag. They appreciate the courtesy.

that is what I call a very good hunt. Heck a couple of wheats make my hunt a success.
