I am really having a hard time getting rid of any of my detectors. Each are unique and serve different purposes. Does the 6000 replace the 7000? No. Does the 7000 replace the 6000 (any coil)? No. Does the 6000 or 7000 replace the SDC in all aspects? No. Does the Manticore replace the GB2 where the GB2 is at its best? Hell No. Does the 9 inch Coiltek replace the NF12x7 entirely? No, not really. Could I think of situations where I would prefer using my GM over the GB2 or Manticore? Absolutely. I could go on and on. But that's just me guys. I have known insanities.šŸ™ƒšŸ¤

No, that's why I had a dozen detectors all the time. None is perfect and almost all really shine in some area the rest all lack. You either settle for "good enough" with one or a few detectors, or have 6, 8, 12 or more depending on how varied your detecting is.

Steve you sure have a way with words. I would have a hard time getting rid of that clean sweep coil as well. The only reason i'm still keeping my TDI Pro is because of the clean sweep coil (18x5.5 Ā dual field) I bought from a forum member here...love using it on the beach when I get in a dig it all mood. My main squeeze at the moment are the Manticore, 6000, Nox 800 with 10x5 coil Excalibur (prolonged deep water hunting) Deus 2 (trashy relic sites) Although I find myself using mostly the Nox with the 6" or 10x5 in high trash over the deus at times...I do love the ergonomics of the Deus which is why I'll be keeping it but I just love the way the 800 and M-Core talk to me...The 7000 has been sitting but I may take it out of retirement the next trip...thanks for the fun read. oh yea almost forgot still have the CTX cant seem to part ways with that technology...

thanks Steve,Ā  I appreciate your way of thinking on this.

You have an attitudeĀ  of contentment, I think.Ā  Ā

I need to weed out the detectors that just sit in a closet for sure.Ā  Ā The thing that has stopped me is thinking that I'll change my mind after selling.Ā  In my heart, I know that's not the case or I would be using them.Ā  Having more stuff surely doesn't make me any happier or more content with life.Ā  Ā 75 y.o., and IĀ  want to enjoy what I have, and have fun finding whatever the EQ800Ā will allow me to find.Ā  Ā No more chasing a detector that MIGHT find one extra piece of gold or silver that I'd miss otherwise.

Q:Ā  Who is the maker of your telescopicĀ  800 shaft?

Steve, as you know I was given my grandfathers 800 when he passed away and I have a really hard time to begin to buy another detector because of it's performance. It is much better than his old Tracker IV and I am learning how to get the best use out of it from this forum. I believe that there is nothing I can't find with it if I am detecting.

I have seen many reports on the 3 detectors that you have now and when I want to get another detector I will be looking at your number one pick.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and your hard time with this great forum as many of us here are newbies like me who want to learn from the best people.

Good luck and good hunting.

Steve, I admire your willingness and courage. Ā Yes, courage because thatā€™s what it takes to fight that fear of losing something that gives you joy and entertainment. Ā Itā€™s good to purge. It simplifies your life. Ā Good luck with those three, I think you have all your bases covered. Ā

As explained elsewhereĀ my metal detecting is winding down from my glory days. I will never quit detecting, but it is a more casual close to home thing going forward. With that in mind I just don't need the dozen detectors I usually have had banging around the house for most of the last couple decades.

I agree Steve. I've been purging the last couple of years, not only detectors but everything. My girls keep telling me, dad don't get rid of anything until we give you the approval.. to late for that.Ā šŸ™„

I guess I'm the opposite in a way, I've been building a cabin to store all my detecting gear in as my wife wanted them out of the house as I've taken over a spare bedroom with my stuff, and a big chunk of the garage.Ā šŸ˜›

I'm certainly no builder, but with the help of Building expert Google and some vital questions to JW when I didn't understand what google was telling me who is a crazy good builder that's been building a house that's build progress start to finish is going on the Grand Designs TV Show I've managed to pull it off I think, at least it's handled some wind and snow and not fallen over so far šŸ™‚

I put these on all the walls running off solar to charge my gear with 12v lights and a 12v 32" TV of course.

Tucked away up the back corner of my property.Ā  I've done a lot more than in these photos now, even the flooring is down just ready for paint when the weather warms up.Ā  Just haven't taken photos the past week or two.

So let this be a warning to you, if you don't cull down your detectors expect your partner to eventually crack and kick them out of the house, and when this happens you too will be building a little cabin for storage, all built for the price of a GPX 6000.

I know a few people have wanted to see what I've been up to; this seemed the logical place to put it.
