  1. Nice find, I haven't seen one of those in a long time. Could you please post better pictures of the front and back?
  2. There are different laws in every state, which state are you in and also check with the city you live in also. Even cities can have their own laws and rules on metal detecting.
  3. Welcome to the forum and we look forward to seeing your finds. If you need to ask questions please do and we will try to answer them. Who knows you may even be able to help others who need it sometime.
  4. The more you learn the 800 the better you will be and you will find many other uses for it in the long run. The 800 will get what you are looking for if it is small or big pieces of gold it willl find it. Just learn the unit and it will serve you well.
  5. I clean mine in a ultrasonic cleaner with a couple of drops of Dawn dish soap, and jewelry cleaner for about an hour. Rinse with distilled water and it looks great. When I pan for gold some of it looks pretty bad.
  6. Another great hunt, keep up the good work! Happy hunting on your next time.
  7. What are you talking about, chores? Prospecting is the main chore we should be doing all the time. I think everything else are projects such as, mowing the lawn, trimming the hedges, weed eating the gardens, all honey do it now items, and anything else that gets in the way. Remember if your healthy and have fun at what you do it is good.
  8. Welcome aboard and the Vanquish is a great detector for almost every item that you would like to look for. The pinpointer if you can afford the higher priced you will get a better product. The MOSUNECE Waterproof Metal Detector Pinpointers on Amazon is a item that GB stated is a copycat product, and I have to admit before I knew anything about it being a copycat I had purchased one. It works very well for me however GB is correct and if I had known that it was a copycat I would not have purchased it. Does it work, yes and it works very well. I am sorry to hear about you being from the Chicago area and know that it is a handicap for you to admit it, but there are many good places in southern Illinois that you will like. I also am from this state and have found many great areas to hunt at, and I am waiting for my neck to heal up so that I can get back out there. Good luck and hope to see some of your finds.
  9. Very nice ring and make sure that it is a diamond before melting it down. I have seen rings of that style with some massive diamonds on it. Nice hunt and good luck on your next outing.
  10. Very nice and I have only have 1 question for you. Can I hold it, I promise not to run off with it I will be the person with the double masks so you won't catch a cold from me.
  11. Welcome aboard and tell us more about yourself please. We will not bite, but we will share information and ideas with you if you need it.
  12. Looks very interesting, but more beautiful than the rocks I find. I have no idea what they are but would like to find out also. Thanks for sharing!
  13. Very interesting article and it sounds as if they are getting the property for almost nothing. Will be interesting on how long this will last and if the government will make anything off the project. Clean up of the project will be a rough project by itself.
  14. For only a couple of hours are you sure that you didn't use a backhoe and a sluice. That is a lot of digging. Good hunt and good luck on your next outing.
  15. Depending on how the ring was setting in the ground it could come up as low as 20 to a high of 30. The token can also do the same thing. So I will take a guess and say the ring came in at a lower number than the token.
  16. I hope this helps, A Montreal factory had a company named Henry Birks (1840-1928), they made the instrument that you have found. They used a crown emblem on items because some of the family members were from Sheffield, England. This is not to be confused with the trademarks of Sheffield. The item would measure the rice while it was on the stalk, or off the stalk. If the rice was the correct size they made more money from it. The box was gold plated and the instrument could be either silver plated or silver. The rubber that is on the inside of the box was made from raw rubber plants and dyed during the process. You have a very nice item that is from around 1840-1865, after which time they made other items such as screens to do the measurements. Hope this helps.
  17. Beautiful piece for sure, and glad to know that there are still some items like that to be found. One of these days I am going to that area to try my luck at finding something like that. Thanks for sharing.
  18. Great hunting and next time please show a picture, it just makes it more fun to see what you got. Good luck on your next hunt!
  19. The last question I have for you is the inside of the box has a layer of something in the top of it. Is it felt on plastic or is it all felt? That will let me know if it is the real item I think it is or just a copy. Be careful when looking at it as it could fall apart if it is all felt.
  20. I would like to know if the box is gold plated or silver? Is the chain silver, and the pendent silver? As Chase has asked we need a good clear close-up of the entire item. With that stated the box looks early 1900's, but without what I asked for I will not say any more.
  21. I have a Nox 800, and even though I have not found any gold with it yet, I have to say it is only time that it shows me some. While I learn all there is to know about the 800 time will tell if I should ever find any gold. I love my 800 because it is light weight and It would not hurt to use it all day hunting for anything I would be looking for. Yes I am a newbie at this but I choose what I bought on now and future hunts.
  22. I think that Chase and Steve has said all that needs to be stated about your decision and who am I to argue with them. Glad I asked what you were looking to do with the MD and how you planned to use it. The Nox 800 will not do what you are wanting and I would go with what they suggested as they are the experts in that area. Welcome and please post your finds for us so we all can enjoy.
