Ian Brings Me Deep Bling And Coins

Recommended Posts

Back from camping, I'll round up that trip soon but since Ian's remnants stayed around here with high winds and rain for 4 days, I had a thought that I should check my local beaches for stuff that may have been uncovered.

It wasn't a total disappointment, yesterday I took an hour or two to go to the small beach. At least a foot of sand had been washed away and some of the riprap had been tumbled.20221011_121153.thumb.jpg.aeb46fea87f1b9cd4b8fb649d193e184.jpg

The tide was very low due to the full moon.

This place has given me gold rings, but I pretty much wiped out everything I could get a tone on. The last two times I visited I got nothing. I brought the Equinox and my composite trowel, and dug everything.20221011_142937.thumb.jpg.dc7dadb5e5494383607a9bf7b6c146a5.jpg

That's all the trash I could get, I was surprised to find anything, all items below were at least 8" down.20221011_143434.thumb.jpg.40f542d56ff216812ec1cc94a80634ed.jpg

A dime, two nickels, and a copper ring with a crystal stone. Not bad for no expectations! πŸ˜€

Today I decided to go to the larger beach, the tide and wind were both low.20221012_092746.thumb.jpg.e9294d175f54ad7a481cde035a53d832.jpg

No one was there when I got there, so I put my waders on and got to it. The river is still loaded with jellyfish! After a while an old couple showed up with Equinoxes and in waders. They zipped all over the place, leapfrogging me and checking every inch of the low tide line while I was in one space. They were a bit annoying but I guess they weren't too happy that I was there. πŸ˜€Β They never really dunked their detectors, I was fully confident with my Deus 2 and the bone phones.

I didn't get much trash. I threw it out, it was about twice what I got the day before. Just small bits of odd metal that are common at this beach.

My finds weren't all that great, but one item is the blingiest piece of junk jewelry I've ever found:20221012_184040.thumb.jpg.73426250e3028a19e1b9946bc83ba008.jpg

It's heavy, 18k gold plated, and has probably over 100 hand laid CZs in it.20221012_184114.thumb.jpg.efda8226cb14611232e1321fb811546e.jpg

Here is a link to it:

The rest was just junk and modern coins. The huge heart is an earring and may have been plated as well:20221012_192700.thumb.jpg.db61a7a812114920b86bb7cdf37b2305.jpg

I think this is the last time I'll hunt a beach this year, give them time to fill up. πŸ˜€ Back to the fields!

Interesting. Did you try way up high on that small beach? If I don't get much at low tide, I work higher up until I find some goodies. With the storm removing about a foot of sand, I would have expected you to find more. As for the claim jumping couple, I'm wondering why you didn't walk up to them and tell them you are leaving since this beach only gave up 6 gold rings today. πŸ˜†

Were it that the small beach had a "way up high", at it's widest it's probably 50', and it's maybe 150 feet long. 😡 I found the coins and the ring at the "cut" the waves had made. If I want to find the deep stuff I would need a PI detector. πŸ˜€And a detectorist to swing it πŸ€”

I don't know if they found much but they left a lot of holes. The larger beach is a "bargain" beach, mostly cottage rentals and small motels. I've found 4 tungsten carbide rings there this year but that's it.Β

Good hunts, F350, and that space-bling is pretty cool! I bet you found more than the claim jumpers did.Β πŸ˜‰

Thanks Cap'n, I realize the finds are scant but I do it to illustrate to anyone new to the hobby that you must never think there's nothing left, and always follow your hunches. πŸ™‚ Beaches are often replenished with new finds, and after a major storm the older stuff beyond the reach of a VLF can be exposed.

Well I sure found all the holes they left on the beach. πŸ˜€ I'm pretty sure they considered me a jumper. 🀣 They went nuts! Probably did them some good. I just stayed in my spot. When they left I found stuff they didn't πŸ˜€

I've decided that I'm not a huge fan of water hunting. It's all slow motion, and often frustrating if your target is under a big rock or old piece of wood in 4 feet of water full of stinging jellyfish. 🀬

I'm also eagerly looking forward to @steveg's new Deus shaft, as I'm sure many of us are. I have one of his for my Equinox, and it handles water and sand a lot better. Too late for this year but hope to hit the beach running with it next spring. I told him I would even forego the camouflage if I could get one sooner! 😁

Looks like the space shuttle. Pretty cool though. Next year I'm sure the beach will restock and another set of adventures will begin and maybe you'll have a PI!!!!
